Mythical Lightweight Tourney
Mythical Lightweight Tourney
Involving these guys in their primes. Mayweather Jr, Duran, Mosely, &
Chavez.
1st Bout On The Bracket: Mayweather Jr vs. Roberto Duran
The Following Weekend 2nd Bout: Mosely vs. Chavez
The winner of these two bouts have a showdown for the Undisputed
Lightweight Championship. Who's Your Pick?
I think the finals we would see Duran vs. Mosely in a tough war & I see
Mosely stopping Duran with an accumulation of kidney shots even though
Duran was tough as nails.
I think Mosely was something special at 135lbs.
Chavez.

If Ray Leonard can make Duran say NO MAS then Mosely at 135lbsBrocktonBlockbuster49 wrote:mosely would not even hurt duran let alone beat him.
chavez over mosely
duran over mayweather
finals : duran over chavez
definitely had a chance. Mosely at his best had too much skill for Duran
& would pepper him with lightning quick combos all night long.
Mosely by stoppage rnd11. The agressiveness of Duran would've
gotten him countered like crazy again Sugar Shane.

the leonard fight was at 147!! and duran beat leonard the first time! and SRL was a level above sugar shane mosely and would have wupped mosely.
duran was near unbeatable at 135!! he is regarded as the greatest lightweight of all time.
duran too much skill, power, aggresion for mosely. duran can box with mosely and has the speed and skill. mosely never beat a great fighter at lightweight, u saw what vernon forrest did to mosely at welter.
no way mosely beats duran. sorry but it aint gonna happen.
duran TKO 6 mosely

Duran - Chavez would have been an absolute classic with Duran being that one step ahead in all facets of the match. Bit more aggressive (controlled) bit better defensively, bit better technically, bit better all round
Pernell Whitaker was the greatest lightweight of all time. duran may have been near unbeatable but whitaker was absolutely unbeatable. Duran lost a to Dejesus, Whitakers loss to Ramirez was one of the biggest robberies in boxing history.
The opponents Whitaker beat at lightweight seem a tad better than the opponets Duran faced. With his southpaw style, defensive skills and speed, Whitaker would have Duran flustered and frustrated over twlleve or fifteen rounds, winning a hard fought decision.
On to the tournament. Lightweight Chavez totures Mosely on route to a 12 round tko. Duran bullies and batters Mayweather Jr in a 15 round decision win.
Duran and Chavez is as pick em' a fight as you would want to see. Duran may have been a ferocious animal at lightweight but Chavez fought like a well oiled machine. Durans only real advantage was a slight edge in power and better speed. Chavez counters this with the better chin, body punching, and a great left hook, which Duran was always vulnerable to.
This fight can go either way. If they fought 10 times each would probably win 5.
Anyway, I'm going to pick Chavez by UD, because no one else is going to.

You obviously never saw Durn at 135 - He is the best LW of all time (him or Whitaker) - SRL beat Durn a divison or two up from LW -
Durn KO's Mosley at LW without a doubt -
Durn UD over Mayweather
J.C.C UD over Mosley
Durn TKO J.C.C 10th -
Have you ever saw Duran fight at lightweight? He was nearly as fast as Whitaker, and DeJesus was a great fighter. And after losing that non title ten rounder, Duran beat the snot out of him in two return matches. In contrast, Whitaker fought about 25-30 fights at lightweight, Duran fought around 60 times with 1 loss. Unlike DeJesus, Whitaker can't hurt Duran with those pitter patter punches and would fall eventually from a late round beating like the rest, between rounds 10-15.theone wrote:Pernell Whitaker was the greatest lightweight of all time. duran may have been near unbeatable but whitaker was absolutely unbeatable. And Pernell the best at Lightweight!!!!!!?????
Over Duran, Benny Leonard, Gans, and Ike Williams????????
Yes. He was the most exciting lightweight i ever seen. Most exciting doesnt mean the best.Have you ever saw Duran fight at lightweight?
So what? whitaker beat better fighters at that weight.Whitaker fought about 25-30 fights at lightweight, Duran fought around 60 times with 1 loss.
Duran would barely land a clean punch against Whitaker. Just because Whitaker didnt score that many knockouts, doesnt mean he was featherfisted. His style did not allow for many ko's but he had enough pop to gain anyones respect. Duran would be so confused, frustrated and I woulndt be surprised if Whitaker scored a flashknock down or two as Duran rushed him in a rage.Whitaker can't hurt Duran with those pitter patter punches and would fall eventually from a late round beating like the rest,
Absolutely. And Pernell the best at Lightweight!!!!!!?????
Why so many question marks? Is it so unreasonable to believe Whitaker could be better than any of them? Why? Leonard and Gans fought much too long ago to know how well they would do against someone like Whitaker, Duran or Mosely for that matter. Gans would have probably beaten rather decisively by the three modern fighters I mentioned. His style looked just too primative to handle them.Over Duran, Benny Leonard, Gans, and Ike Williams????????
Leonard looks more like a modern fighter, but still hard to judge him. I have seen many Ike Williams fights on tape and his style looks taylor made for Whitaker. His reign was too short and not as impressive as the others.
I've seen all of Pea's lightweight defenses and most of Duran's.Roberto was a master defensive fighter and i don't think he got hit any more than Whitaker did.Offensively he was far superior to Pernell.Whitaker would be the one struggling to land anything meaningful.Of course Duran had more depth to his game and so his defensive skill often goes unnoticed.Whitaker was nothing but defence.
Duran beat the better competition as well.Whitaker's best being the blown up Nelson, who never won a meaningful fight at lightweight and an ancient Jose Luis Ramirez who had already been thoroughly dominated by Mancini and Camacho. No one on his lightweight resume compares to Dejesus or Buchanan.
