Degrees of separation

Post by Controversial »

Saw this the other day if anyone wants to have a go at answering. You need to make the connection between Pancho Villa and Evander Holyfield. There are 9 other fighters to make the connection.

Off the top of my head.

McClarnin, Ross, Armstrong, Robinson, Maxim, Moore, Ali, Holmes,

Looks like I cut it down by one.

So you did, well done. The list I saw had McLarnin, Canzoneri, Berg, Larkin, Archer, McCoy, Pastrano, Peralta, Foreman

Its funny, I like doing this. Connecting the degrees of separation between fighters. Its amazing how many connect and how fast.
I had five pro fights. I connect to Ali in four degrees of separation. Ridiculous for sure.
I would guess that there are many many ways to connect Villa and Evander also because of the fact that McClarnin as Saad put down, fought in so many weight classes and Evander fought in more than one. Ive gotta look into this now...

Actually, you need only 6 names to connect Villa with Holyfield:

McLarnin, Brouillard, Marshall, Moore, Ali, Holmes.

Got this in 8 using really obvious fighters so there's probably a quicker way for those of you more knowledgable than me:

Manuel Ortiz
1. Willie Pep v Manuel Ortiz (1944)
2. Sammy Angott v Willie Pep (1943)
3. Ray Robinson v Sammy Angott (1941)
4. Joey Maxim v Ray Robinson (1952)
5. Archie Moore v Joey Maxim (1954)
6. Muhammad Ali v Archie Moore (1962)
7. George Foreman v Muhammad Ali (1974)
8. Shannon Briggs v George Foreman (1997)
9. Vitali Klitschko v Shannon Briggs (2010)
Vitali Klitschko

RadioelRadar: You got it quicker than I did. My way was: Ortiz-Pep-Saddler-Elorde-Carlos Ortiz-Charnley-Griffith-Tiger-Foster-Ali-Berbick-Tyson-Lewis-Klitschko.

:TU: That's an interesting one. Moore and Foreman must always make pretty good link men because of their longeivity and SRR because of the breadth and depth of his resume.

I went Ortiz/Salas/J Carter/Flanagan/Pastrano/Peralta/Foreman/Briggs/Vitali

If you looked into it I'll bet you can cut Salas or Carter in some way.
