Build your perfect heavyweight

Post by Controversial »

If you could take ONE attribute from any heavyweight, past or present, to create your perfect heavyweight what would you choose?

Hand speed - Floyd Paterson
Jab - Larry Holmes
Punch power - George Foreman
Left hook - Mike Tyson
Chin - George Chuvalo
Stamina - Rocky Marciano
Physique - Mike Weaver

Anyone got any others?

Yes. Make them lose 60 or 70 pounds from today's HW's and there you have probably the optimal blend of speed, power, endurance and skill

Uhh....Rory......Chin of Ali not great? I think he finished that fight with Norton if I recall. We are not actually talking about the structure of the chin. Bone density and all. We are taking about taking a lickin and the ability to keep on tickin. The fact that he had his jaw broke and continued to make the fight competitive speaks volumes about this guys "chin".

Give me a guy that starts boxing at 8 or 9 and loves it, turns pro at 18 or so, at 168 maybe, so he can grow up to be @ 6'2"(a hair under is fine a bit over is not.) and weigh about 212 or 215, and he should be smart- in a thoughtful sort of way. By 24 or 25 he'll have grown into the weight but be a boxer that can move and can punch, and has the skills of a mw because he was one for years. Ah hell it was going to be Tunney

I thought the best Hagler commercial was the one where he endorses Pizza Hut, where while he is savoring his pizza he contemplates out loud, "I wonder what the other guy is having"? Answer, "probably soup". That commercial was made right after his knockout of Hearns.

I would add his height. The guy was born to be a big heavyweight and at that, he wasn't all that bad on his feet, though don't get me wrong, Lewis didn't flow like a butterfly but did sting like a bee -when he felt he was in danger.

I'm sorry, but this is one of the stupidest postings I have ever read. What exactly do you base this statement on? Perhaps the many photos of an overweight John L taken AFTER his career was over? Or maybe his last official competitive fight against Corbett -- when he lasted 21 rounds?
