Like everyone (even Price himself) I suspect Price's chin is SUSPECT, but the shot Thompson landed didn't prove that. He got done with a shot to the temple - it was unfortunate and it does happen. David Haye very nearly lost to Lolenga Mock many moons ago in a similar type scenario. There are lots of heavyweights who have succeeded despite having fragile punch resistance - Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko, Corrie Sanders and Big Frank all spring to mind.

Key for Price is developing and utilising a potent jab to keep opponents at bay and set up his attacks. I think his easy recent victories had made him a tad complacent in that department but he's bound to be more cautious going forward. Thompson, whatever kind of shape her turns up in, remains decidedly beatable and I think Price will win the rematch.
Lennox was not chinny. He got stopped by two great shots from big, hard hitting heavyweights.

It's all about levels. I can't imagine any of the so called chinny Wlad, Bruno, Sanders etc getting stopped by Thompson in the way Price did.

There is a chance Pricey could become the heavyweight Enzo. I hope not.

Revenge will be sweet
I've heard that Thompson is going to be David Tua's comeback opponent in August in New Zealand.

Rubber fights almost always go in the favour of the initial loser. If price wins, his reputation/stock will be replenished. It is also a shortcut rather than taking another longer route.

No they don't! I can't remember the percentage but it was quite high for the winner of the first fight to win quicker second time around.

Ben are you blind and deaf ? that little punch didnt hit Price on no temple .
Go watch the rerun of that fight ,Price got KOed by a little punch that landed on that back of the neck more than anywhere ,even his mate Paul smith that was commentating on the fight at the time said it was a punch on the back of the neck as did John Rawlings .
Why are nut huggers so blinded ? there have been a ton of fans that watched Price in the AMs and warned everyone that Prices chin was gammy !
You're getting on my tits. We can split hairs on where the punch landed, but it didn't land on his CHIN, did it? And that's my point. Why can't you grasp that?

We ent splitting f*ck all ,It didnt land on his temple dumb c*nt,your trying to make out it was a temple punch that would of KOed anyone ,take your nut hugger glasses off an go watch the fight back ,it was a little punch that landed on top of the side of the neck, as his mate Paul Smith and John Rawlings commented on tv .

I dont think we have ever seen anyone KOed as bad as that from what was little more than a little punch up the side of the neck ...FFS who gets knocked out from punches on the side of the neck ? someone remind me

So what's your point? Price has a glass neck, is that it? Shots like the one Price received could disrupt the equilibrium of most fighters. I'm not pro Price, I suspect his chin will let him down a top level based on what happened to him in the amateurs. The only thing I'm saying is that those arguing Price's chin is suspect were not vindicated based on his loss to Thompson because the shot didn't land on his chin. It's a simple argument.

Price could well get done by Thompson again, or anyone else who gets lucky for that matter. We'll have to wait and find out.

Didnt it perfirate his ear drum and knock his equilibrium out of whack? Hence the rolling around but lucidity of talking straight away.

Thanks Adam for the clarification. So what's your take on this? Do you think it was a shot which would have affected most fighters?

If their ear drum went then yeah for me they would, i got lambasted on the night for saying i didnt think price was chinny for going down from an ear shot.

Stop looking for someones teat to suck on , Price was knocked down 17 times in Ams ,he was stopped in one final he was in , in fact I believe a member on here posted a video of him going down similar to the Thompson KO in the Ams from the same type of punch to ...u telling me this is just a A coincidence?

A coincidence (often stated as a mere coincidence) is a collection of two or more events or conditions, closely related by time, space, form, or other associations which appear unlikely to bear a relationship as either cause to effect or effects of a shared cause, within the observer's or observers' understanding of what cause can produce what effects.

See where this is going ?? :D

No mate , my gripe is not with Price , its with his deluded fans , anybody thats followed price in the ABAs will tell you his chin was not the best , Even a Tyson Fury as a 17 year old boy and not known for his power had Price a 23 yr old man on the deck .
Price has power granted , but hes complete with out that chin .
I wonder what odds at a bookie you would get on Price remaining off his back for his next 6 fights ? :o

I agree with you that his punch resistance is suspect at best mate but he's a good fighter and if Tyson and him were to meet it would be an exciting fight as long as it lasted. Fury wins in the chin dept and has proven his heart by getting up to win but Price stil wins in the power dept imo

Thompson will be loving this, bet he absolutely jumped at the chance, even if he's out of the fight he knows it just takes one clip and it could be curtains. Very surprised by Price team making this again, but brave all the same and certainly people will be tuning in.

Huge credit for Price taking this fight straight away rather than fighting bums for a year and then taking a Khan style route after Prescott. Particularly as someone has already said, he's likely to be getting a modest pay day for this fight not to mention the fact it's a shit or bust fight for him.

Another KO and he'll find it difficult to progress so I expect a cautious safety first approach and yoou can't blame him for this. It's all about getting the W and anything else is a bonus.

I wish I could find the article, but there was an interesting interview with Steve Smoger on the boxingtalk site. He was saying that he went to a medical seminar that discussed this exact problem. He was saying that shots to the ear that a boxer is hit with that effect equilibrium are very easy to spot because " they take their legs away " in a very particular way. He said you can tell they're not badly hurt or buzzed as such and can get their equilibrium back very quickly, even though the knockdown looks bad. He said that in these cases he gave the boxer as long as possible (within the 10 seconds) to recover as in his opinion they could safely carry on the fight.

You could tell this happened to Price. Only a few seconds later he was stood talking to his team, looking gutted, but completely lucid.

I'm not going to say Price is anything other than chinny, but on this occasion I don't think the shot that stopped him was as a consequence of him being chinny. It was just one of those unfortunate things. And Price obviously thinks this too by getting the immediate rematch.

The thing is, it is not some kind of freak shot, punches like that occur all the time in boxing, reminds me of Herbie Hide, was always vulnerable to shots high on the head - and got blizted several times in his career as a result.

Price will get caught similarly again with the same effect - he's always going to be vulnerable, and unless he adopts the kind of tactics Wlad uses, he will fall short shy of world level. wlad for all his flaws holds a shot a lot better than Price, and is himself considered Chinny, the reality is, Wlad has to be nailed several times flush before he goes down.

I give David Price guts for wanting the rematch and his promoters/managers being willing to pay Thompson well over $100,000 for the rematch, because Thompson on our radio show said he wasnt fighting unless he was paid at least $140,000. My thoughts on the rematch is, Price figures this go around if he comes straight after Thompson with bombs like he did against Harrison and McDermott that he will erase the loss. However, Thompson can take shots and he is saavy imho he may just spark out Price again, you never know with heavyweights. I think, however, regardless what happens Price will always be seen as a man with a glass jaw and everyone is going to fight him harder than before; cus what is there to be afraid of when a giant can be felled by a light tap?
