GGG vs Ishida PPV
Re: GGG vs Ishida PPV
Lmao - GGG just referred to the Prince as "Princess".

I agree with both of you. Scary man so far.crusader wrote:GGG isn't helping his cause much with knockouts like that.Blodhemn wrote:People who trash the matchup need to get it right and trash the middleweight division for avoiding him. Dibella is ringside and just shat his pants at the idea at matching his fighters with GGG.hbg wrote:You can trash the match-up all you want, but the way Golovkin disposed of Ishida was impressive.

That was worth my bottle of vodka's worth.

Re: GGG vs Ishida PPV
Can I finally get an AMEN!
Re: GGG vs Ishida PPV
I understand GGG is a scary man to face but he has HBO and big money behind him. For guys like Geale, Quillin, Pirog, fighting GGG on HBO is how you get paid. Other than Martinez and Chavez, there are no $ fights in this division for these guys. You can only fight Sturm in Germany so many times.
HBO is going to want Quillin-GGG if they cant get Martinez-GGG. Chavez will be on the shelf a while. Geale-GGG is a fight I'd like to see.

Dude appears to be destined for P4P if he can get anyone in the ring with him. I am impressed with his defense, speed, jab, compact delivery, footwork, body shots and (of course) power.Baby Face Finster wrote:Can I finally get an AMEN!
This man has huge PPV #'s written all over him but who has the nuts to get in there with him?
Re: GGG vs Ishida PPV
Both Schaefer and Quillin themselves said they don't want the GGG fight anytime soon due to the cliched "risk doesn't match reward". Now that GBP is banned from HBO, it won't happen but it wasn't going to happen anyway as they already verbally ducked out. Geale is a possibility for later but he's going to fight Solimon next. Pirog was supposed to fight GGG last year, and it was rumored he was supposed to fight GGG today instead of Ishida but has injuries that's keeping him back.diddy wrote:I understand GGG is a scary man to face but he has HBO and big money behind him. These guys fight for money, first and foremost. HBO is trying to launch Broner and Golovkin as the future of the sport. You want to get paid? You fight those cats. You're gonna get punched in the face no matter who you face, may as well make some $ for your troubles.Tanzio wrote:Dude appears to be destined for P4P if he can get anyone in the ring with him. Re: GGG vs Ishida PPV
The more guys Golovkin knocks out of the ring, the more $ HBO puts behind his fights, the more $ the opponents get paid.
Re: GGG vs Ishida PPV
Yeah true. But until then, he's only going to get the fighters who have nothing to lose.
It needs to happen soon though as unlike some caught up in the GGG hype, I don't think he'll have a long prime as he had 350 amateur fights and he trains hard constantly, so that'll wear him down before too long.

Re: GGG vs Ishida PPV
Yep, everyone loves a knockout artist. His opponents are going to avoid him, but every KO adds more appeal to him as an attraction and of course as you say leads to more money being offered to him and his opponent. Even guys that don't want none now, will fight him when they're shown the money.diddy wrote:The more guys Golovkin knocks out of the ring, the more $ HBO puts behind his fights, the more $ the opponents get paid.
Re: GGG vs Ishida PPV
I'd actually love to see JCC Jr. vs Golovkin.

Updates much appreciated.
Re: GGG vs Ishida PPV
GGG smoked Ishida's ass with a vicious 3rd round KO.
Edwin Rodriguez won a 10 round decision over Maderna in a sloppy fight.
Grachev beat Erdei with a 10 round split decision.
And there were 3 other mismatched KO's prior to all that.

I had to take a shower.SouthpawStephen wrote:Dang!!! I missed this one. Sounds like G isn't helping matters in getting himself a meaningful bout with this performance. I was expecting G to win, but dang. Ishida is a pretty durable guy. I know BFF had to change his draws a couple times...at least. 8)

Re: GGG vs Ishida PPV
My thoughts on each of the fights:
Makabu looked good. Very aggressive and has sharp punching technique. I hope Mchunu will agree to fight him in July.
Relikh impressed me with how accurate his punches were.
Rabchenko looked very sharp. Reminded me of his performance against Rhodes. He's got a knack for walking his guy down and punching at the exact right second to find a hole in his opponent's defense and a hitch in his rhythm. I've heard he struggled a bit in his previosu fight, but I missed that one. He looks like a very good world class contender every time I see him.
Erdei-Grachev: Mostly a tale of two fights. Erdei won most of the early rounds with his jab alone and some clever movement. Grachev took over when Erdei seemed to tire or get lazy in the middle-late rounds, but I thought he came back strong in the 10th. I had it a draw. I gave 3 of the 4 toss-up rounds to Grachev, though, so I'd say Erdei had the slightly better argument to win it, if anyone.
Rd 1: Erdei, Clear
2: Grachev, toss-up
3: Erdei, clear
4: Erdei, clear
5: Erdei, toss-up
6: Grachev, toss-up
7: Grachev, clear
8: Grachev, clear
9: Grachev, toss-up
10: Erdei, close but clear
Maderna-Rodriguez was a mess. I actually had Maderna winning 94-93. Rodriguez generally looked a lot better throwing his punches (not saying much), but I thought Maderna was tending to get the cleaner punches in. I also thought Rodriguez should have lost 2 points for the low blow (intentional foul), though Maderna could have easily lost one for the late punch at the end of round 1, and I didn't think Rodriguez deserved the 2nd PD at all.
1: Rodriguez, toss-up
2: Rodriguez, clear
3: Maderna, toss-up
4: Maderna, clear
5: Maderna, toss-up
6: Maderna, close but clear
7: Rodriguez, toss-up
8: Even (Rodriguez toss-up, minus point deduction)
9: Rodriguez, 9-8. KD minus another PD
10: Maderna, close but clear.
And Golovkin was excellent. Just walked through Ishida. Very smart pressure. Excellent jab and defense, and the power was of course crushing.
