Wilfredo pulled out he got hurt. Wesley is fighting Michael Hughes he won the 41 novice last yrusaboxingmetrony wrote:What happened to this thread it got dead? 0_0 lol. I hear Titus is going to the finals he beat his teammate Christian Chavez was it a good fight ? In the 152 lbs division, it's between Peter dopson and Jose de la rosa , that should be a good fight either one could win. I know Wesley is in the finals but I don't know who's he fighting. In the 123 lbs division it's between Jaime Estrada vs Wilfredo morales . Should be a really good fight . They faught a couple years back in the metros. It's a boxer vs a puncher type fight should be good.

Wow that's a shocker. So does that mean Jaime wins the gloves or they matching him with Michael stoute for the fnals?
Re: 2013 New York Golden Gloves (86th edition)
Not sure they should call stoute. Now that the finals are set what are everyones predictions! In my opinion i dont think the gloves finals are going to be that exciting this year. The 114 lb open class was def the toughest weight. They were all goodddusaboxingmetrony wrote:Wow that's a shocker. Re: 2013 New York Golden Gloves (86th edition)
Wassup ya'll...I'd have to agree with Gln101, the Gloves don't look too exciting this year...I think 114 and 132 were the best weightclasses...
As far as Open Class goes
114 Open- Khalid Twaiti vs Jordan Rodriguez - Khalid is a good young prospect, he could pull an upset but I'm going with Rodriguez who's been to the Finals before...
123 Open- If Gln101 is right about Wilfredo then they might just give Jaime Estrada the title...doubt they call Mike Stoute up
132 Open- Titus Williams vs Vassily Zherebnenko - I think this is the most competitive match on paper in the Gloves...Titus came close to winning last time around, now he has 2 weeks to prepare...Vassiliy aint playin no games this year though with 2 stoppages, should be a good one...
141 Open-Wesley Ferrer vs Michael Hughes - Going with Wesley
152 Open- Peter Dobson vs Jose De La Rosa = I thought it'd be Tyrone James and Dobson in the Finals but thatz why we have draws you never know what can happen...I'm picking Dobson
165 Open- Christopher Galeano vs Frank Castillo - Gotta go with Galeano who may be a National Champ by the time this bout takes place...
178 Open- Jeff Laguerre vs Antoine Evens - never heard of Evans so I gotta go with Jeff who has held his own with some good opposition
201 Open- Earl Newman vs Ngoula Romanick - Earl's the favorite and I haven't heard of Romanick so its hard to pick otherwise...
I think Galeano at 152 will win Fighter of the Tournament, but if Titus can upset Vassily at 132 I think he might take it...
Henry Beckford (165 Novice) should win Novice of the Tournament as long as he wins in the Finals...he already has 4 STOPPED CONTESTS...
I hope we do see some good bouts cuz on paper I'm not really excited outside of 132 Open...152 Open should be a good bout too...the Gloves needs someone to showcase themselves...where's the next Danny Jacobs or Marcus Browne...???

Re: 2013 New York Golden Gloves (86th edition)
114 open im going with Khalid but its def going to be an exciting fight jordan can bang
123 open Stoute should be called since Chayanne was called back into the gloves along with a 41 novice. Wilfredo vs Jaime would have been a war i was looking forward to that one
132 open i cant choose just hoping for an exciting fight. Vassily looked really sharp at bb kings
141 open Ill go with Wesley. But i cant sleep on Hughes he has an awkward style who knows he might give ferrer some trouble
152 open Ima go with dobson. He beat the best to get to the barclays.. This is Delarosa first time in the finals hes not gonna let it be easy at all
165 open Christopher galeano he ranked #1 dominating all of his opponents at nationals.. Everyone is saying its going to be an easy one but Castillo is good and is going to brig it ,its going to be a good show for the barclays
201 open if you were at the play lounge for the semi finals then you know Earl does not have an easy one. His opponent can punch and goes in there to kill you.. Earl is going to have to box him and try not get into trading punches with the guy
How about the women?
141 W Bertha vs Nafisa... Nafisa is good but Bertha is def the favorite

Re: 2013 New York Golden Gloves (86th edition)
I didn't go the first night but I did go on Friday...
Jeff Laguerre won a clear decision against Antoine Evens at 178 Open
Christina Cruz's opponent Welley Wallo was game but was overmatched, it was entertaining at points though...Wallo was throwing bombs, she didn't come to lose...
Krystal Dixon and Jessica Kenul at 176 Women was a good scrap, they both were gased in the 4th, Dixon did seem to land the cleaner shots for the most part throughout the fight...
I only caught the 1st round of Beka Gulbatashvili and Jovanny Concepcion at 152 Novice...the crowd booed the decision heavy though
132 Open between Titus Williams and Vassiliy Zherebnenko was an ugly fight to say the least. The few clean punches landed were by Williams for the most part. I don't recall anyone looking good against Vassiliy, his style won't allow it lol. Titus was the aggressor though, had the crowd, and initiated most of the action. 3rd round was real ugly, both lost points for holding, and Vassiliy threw Titus down or vice versa at the end of the fight resulting in another point loss for both. Williams won the Sugar Ray Robinson Award...132 Open was probably the most competitive Open class...
141 Novice was a good scrap, Michael Damiani was the aggressor and threw nonstop but Paul Anthony received the decision most likely due to clean punching...
Earl Newman outboxed the tough charging Ngoula Romanick in a good fight...
Nkosi Solomon outboxed George Arias at 201 Plus Novice...close fight, George Arias reminded me a lil of Curtis Stevens, he's not bad although he got a lil sloppy at the end due to fatigue...
I missed most of 165 Open but Chris Galeano seemed to do what he wanted against Frank Castillo for the most part in a clear decision...
I don't think any stars were born just yet but there were some good fights...I imagine Galeano and Titus Williams turning pro after the Nationals...I know Williams wanted to put on a standout performance but Vassiliy is a seasoned vet and his awkward style gives everyone fits...
I wonder if these bouts will be shown on TV...since now the fights are at Barclays, is MSG gonna show them? Unless they will show them on the YES Network???

Re: 2013 New York Golden Gloves (86th edition)
I think Khalid deserved the open class boxer of the tournament.. Or even De La Rosa for pulling off the big upset. The 152 novice final was good concepcion turned it up the 2nd and 3rd round but he lost in my opinion idk why the crow was booing...165 open was a shut out.... 141 women was a bad decision... The 123 novice was the biggest robbery the kid was outboxed and hit with everything for threee rounds...

If Titus had lost I think Galeano at 152 would have received it...I doubt they would give it to a 114 guy just cuz that weightclass doesn't get much attention even though it was good this year AND Khalid won the whole thing his first year in the Gloves...Gln101 wrote:I think Khalid deserved the open class boxer of the tournament.. Someone told me the Director of the Gloves felt 132 was the best weightclass...that could have played into the decision too...

On MSG's website it says Golden Gloves 12 for Wednesday :( :( :(
That's a bummer, I guess they're gonna wait another month or 2 to show this year's Gloves, I hope...
