Re: MACKLIN v GOLOVKIN??
If Macklin boxes early like he did against Martinez, he gets the stoppage.
Macklin's power is under-rated.

Re: MACKLIN v GOLOVKIN??
GGG has some really nice wins against slick boxers in the amateurs.
Dirrell etc. Knocked out Bute.
I like Matthew, he gives his all in fights, but the weight of Golovkin's punches will tell by the mid point if not earlier.
Ishida had never been halted, and he was blasted through the ropes.
The jap saw the final bell against Pirog and Paul Williams - and he was clocked in 3 rounds.

Re: MACKLIN v GOLOVKIN??
Macklin will have to rush Golovkin, deny him as much space as possible and take advantage of his not so great defence.
Golovkin is precise and really fornicating powerful, the last thing Macklin needs to do is allow him time and space.
The usual prediction for me in fights like this is Brit/kinda Brit has early successes, causes world class/potential world class fighter some problems, fight changes when part time Brit/Paddy starts to slow down, stoppage. I see no need to change that prediction here. Over between 7-10

Agreed.Datsue wrote:Not nearly as sold on Gennady as most, frankly. His best win is Proska, which was admittedly impressive. But everyone else has either been a joke, or a light-middle. & a joke. He's got more hype for beating fvck-all than Adrien Broner, which is saying something.
OTOH, I think Macklin's just outside of tippety-top level meself, & will go down late after an accumulation.
But Golovkin as some kind of unbeatable unstoppable monster is a smoke & mirrors PR creation, frankly.
For whatever reason he's been getting loads of media coverage from the boxing press, but he hasn't really beaten any top level opponants. I think it's a case of having a high ko percentage. But looking at his opponants, most were knockover jobs.

Re: MACKLIN v GOLOVKIN??
Someone is going to have to bite the bullet and face Golovkin. I hope Macklin's purse is decent because I can see the fight going only one way - a vicious KO by Golovkin.
GGG is going to rule the middleweight division for the next couple of years. I can't see him getting beat unless he has a weakness we don't know about yet.
Golovkin vs Martinez has fight of the decade written all over it.

i agree, this is his last chance in america
he will come back when he is beaten and fight barker, murrary, etc but none of them will have a world title and they have been and will all have been kncoked out by world champions
all these lads are way over-rated (mainly because of their sturm fights)

God i hope this fight gets signed !!!
Re: MACKLIN v GOLOVKIN??
I'll be rooting for Macklin all the way but it looks like a painful night awaits.
Golovkin does not appear to be overrated IMO.

Re: MACKLIN v GOLOVKIN??
I don't think Golovkin is overrated, he's just come through in the last year and causes alot of excitement because he's looked good in doing so.
I would say he's been operating around the lower end of world class, but no way was any champion going to risk against him without being very well paid, and that just wasn't going to happen until he had built a name up for himself.
So now Golovkin is in America, and looks for a marketable name to get himself onto the level of competition, Macklin fits that just right. I can see Matthew giving him a few problems early on, but getting broken down around the 7th or 8th.

Team Macklin ......this will be a great fight Golovkin is a tough opponent but its not a given .As previous posters said Macklin can throw bombs and will see this as a good oppurtunity.

Re: MACKLIN v GOLOVKIN??
let's not forget it's another WBA title shot for macklin, on HBO this time.
an attractive matchup.
golovkin's very compact and dangerous and really wears down opponents, and also blasts them out. i don't think we've seen anywhere near his best.
macklin should make it a real fight, and we know he can box with both skill and aggression, as in the martinez fight.

Re: MACKLIN v GOLOVKIN??
I can understand the hype because as he has such an attractive style to watch he is a lot of boxing fans favourite fighter but hype doesn't require proof.Riddick Blowe wrote:I don't understand the hype with GGG either.
It's just that a lot of people seemed confused between favourite/best in the world.

Re: MACKLIN v GOLOVKIN??
I've just watched the Ishida bout on Youtube and Golovkin is very good, very powerful, has an exciting style and is more active than the other top middleweights; more power to the man.
(What's happened to James Kirkland? I thought he was closing in on the top men? I can't see him doing much with Golovkin to be honest with you).

Re: MACKLIN v GOLOVKIN??
He would murder macklin inside 3 rds imo
Re: MACKLIN v GOLOVKIN??
I'm in agreement with the majority. Can see Macklin being busted up and stopped within 5-6 rounds. It isn't just that GGG hits hard, he is a very, very accurate puncher. Even his jab against Ishida was a very spiteful and well timed punch.
Macklin has gave us some good nights but I feel it will be all downhill from this fight onwards.
