Isnt Queensbury boxing league unliscenced? I always assumed it was.
Re: what does allegedly need to do?
Coldwell would be the best for me, then maybe Hard Knocks, although no announcement from Hatton yet so possibly an option there. A lot of his fighters must be getting restless now.Dead Mouse wrote:There's about 4 or 5 that they should go for before Hard Knocks. Not sure if Hard Knocks are that reliable - I'm still waiting for the other 3 bills they were due to show on Premier sports.Dead Mouse wrote:There's about 4 or 5 that they should go for before Hard Knocks. The clearest and most obvious way to boost subscriber numbers would be the broadcast of some kind of "super card", but on a regular basis.
The biggest publicity the channel had, and associated increase in numbers came with the Luxembourg card. If Frank could repeat that kind of night on a quarterly basis (akin to WWE's big four PPV events) then the channel could generate and sustain a far higher subscriber base.
I've been of the opinion for a while that Boxing needs its own version of Wrestlemania - a single night of great action, potentially across multiple sites in multiple countries but billed and pushed as a single, joined up event. It would need a number of promoters and TV co's working together, and is practically unworkable.
Excuse me while I enter the realms of fantasy, but can you imagine the following, in say, November 2013...
3pm (GMT) Macao, China
Takayama v Rodriguez 2
Juan Manual Marquez v Manny Pacquiao 5
5pm (GMT) Moscow, Russia
Dennis Lebedev v Marco Huck
Kubrat Pulev v Alex Povetkin
8pm (GMT) Berlin, Germany
Robert Stieglitz v George Groves
Vitali Klitschko v David Haye
10pm (GMT) London, UK
Kell Brook v Amir Khan
Ricky Burns v Miguel Vasquez
1am (GMT) Buenos Aires, Argentina
Marcos Maidana v Lucas Matthysse
Sergio Martinez v Martin Murray II (after the original turns into a war)
3am (GMT) Las Vegas, USA
Adrien Broner v Tim Bradley
Floyd Mayweather v Saul Alvarez

Re: what does allegedly need to do?
I'm very happy with it to be honest, yes hd would be better, the uk fights have faded slowly but the overseas fights have stayed true, april the 20th to may the 4th is a great 3 weeks, I would love live coverage of weigh-inns and better guests on the bunce hour, just when im getting excited it turns out there on the phone instead of the sofa.thatllbeme wrote:theres a lot of Allegedly channel subsribers on here and a lot who are against it,what would convince the non subscribers to put their hand in their pocket and subscribe? HD? more uk shows?
But all in all I give b o x nation an 8 out of 10
Re: what does allegedly need to do?
I hope Hobson gets McDonnell on allegedly and then Steve Goodwin can do a deal; he has some really good shows with competitive action.

Re: what does allegedly need to do?
Instead of repeating the same fights endlessly, perhaps if they put some money/publicity to grass roots pro shows and show more small hall shows.
Also bring in some presenters and commentators from further afield than the usual London and York Hall bias.
LoadedTV are showing local small hall shows. Local fighters profiles are raised and nationwide fans get to see promising youngsters on the journey up. Win/Win scenario but politics & promoters ego obviously get in the way yet again.

Re: what does allegedly need to do?
It needs to close down. Then go to free TV to get the buzz back in boxing, promote the fighters on free TV until a meaningful fight takes place then go PPV.
It's just silly to expect people to pay a tenner a month for every fight. Bringing it back to the masses, then charging once you have their interest is the way to go.

Re: what does allegedly need to do?
Whats going on with promoters alledgedly losing "signed" deals with TV companies.
McDonnell was advertised to be on loaded TV - they made a big thing of it on Skelton vs McDermott - now Hobson is saying he cannot get TV.
Goodwin promotions are supposed to be on Primetime. Yet, it seems they are promoting shows now that are not on TV.
Hennessy and channel 5 - surely that deal didn't expire?
Premier Sports signed a 5 fight deal (or was it 7) with Hard Knocks (does the promotion still exist?) - only shown 2 cards.
If the deal with McDonnell and loaded wasn't sorted, then it was a bit short sighted of Hobson. It must have cost a fortune to win the purse bid and secure a big stadium (I imagine he is going to try and get a stacked undercard). I remember the promoter who secured the purse bid for Scott Gammar vs Mark Krence saying that because there was no TV (he was trying to secure a last minute deal with ITV Wales when I spoke to him about tickets) that show made a 5 figure loss!
Is it all the TV companies fault? Just look how many TV companies Hennessy has worked with over the years - pretty much the lot. His cards are pretty good, viewing figures have generally been very good. So why are TV companies ditching him? Does he start asking for more revenue when he gets "cosy" with a TV company? - Not an accusation, just a question.

Re: what does allegedly need to do?
add abit more glits and glamour to the shows,in between fights its a really dull atmosphere also partner up with some small hall show managers and promotors so up and coming talent get a bit of tv time rather than go unnoticed for years. imo frank is probably still the number 1 man in boxing and i think some fighters need to show some loyalty back to him cleverley aside
Re: what does allegedly need to do?
Wow, 1st we had the 'you mugs, its costs a cockle' thread and now we get the 'what can be done to increase subs' thread. Is this some kind of covert, customer survey?
We had poster with less than 80 posts, try to mock and embarrass into subbing (its a cockle, me ol mucker'). Then another with also less than 80 posts another thread, 'lets try get some feedback'. Either way, not sure things are as 'rosey' as BN and Mr W@rren would have us believe.

just a fan of allegedly wanting to know the reasons why people dont subscribe and what would make them subscribe and hopefully someone from allegedly looks on sites like these for feedback! i dont understand why for a fee as small as £10 a month people dont subsribe if they are boxing fans!

My personal reasons for not subscribing are thus:thatllbeme wrote:just a fan of allegedly wanting to know the reasons why people dont subscribe and what would make them subscribe and hopefully someone from Allegedly channel looks on sites like these for feedback! i dont understand why for a fee as small as £10 a month people dont subsribe if they are boxing fans!
- lack of high level domestic action. Just one "can't miss" fight featuring a UK fighter in about 6 months
- lack of HD. Almost criminal in this day and age
- lack of willingness / desire to stay up until 5am every Sunday to watch the action that they provide. The requirement to manually record programmes because the final rounds of the headline fight are not included in the original recording doesn't help.
The money is not the issue for me - I subscribed for about 9 months but found I was not watching anywhere near enough for it to be worthwhile.

Re: what does allegedly need to do?
It needs to look at what dedicated one sport channels have been a success and why.
In the US you have a dedicated channel for every sport. The difference between allegedly and those channels is the amount of programming and live action that's shown. On average you get about 5 hours of live boxing a week on BN. That needs to at least be doubled. In general theirs only 1 build up show which is the Bunce Hour. You need more than this. If Ifilm London be at every press conference theirs no reason for allegedly to not be there. Why are there not build up shows for every card, interviews with fighters etc etc. Even show Boxing films one night a week like Raging Bull or the Rocky movies.

Re: what does allegedly need to do?
Didn't he offer Tony Jeffries a decent contract when he turned over, Tony signed it and Hobson had to back out when he found he had no TV deal to fund it? So in short he has form for this..stujones wrote:If the deal with McDonnell and loaded wasn't sorted, then it was a bit short sighted of Hobson.
How many fighters does Hobson manage/promote?

allegedly pays shows for the coverage. Starting professional fighters nowadays only exist because of ticket sales they generate themselves due to the lack of money in the show. Showing shows free is not the answer.
The answer is simple, support allegedly. LoadedTV and Sky but more importantly if you love the sport get off yer arse and go to your local pro shows if you want pro boxing to survive.
Re: what does allegedly need to do?
There is a massive gap in their schedule with the lack of domestic boxing. I would love a Friday Fight Night of domestic action on BN on a regular basis. Although for a tenner a month, April and May is brilliant value with the international fights. But, with two young kids I cant sit up all night to enjoy them nor can I be sitting through a four hour show that I Sky+'d the following morning, I normally just watch the main event.
Re: what does allegedly need to do?
1. Put a deal in place with more British promoters
2. With ESPN Classic closing down in a few months why not try to purchase access to their library of classic fights with a persepective from Lillis and Rosenthal before and after ala ITV Sports Classics back in the day
3. If the channel is to be more "neutral" then Bunce would have to have a more reduced role and that wont happen

Re: what does allegedly need to do?
Have you seen the line up over the next month? Amazing.
The super card idea is a good one.
More Buncey and more docus…or just ex pros in a studio discussing boxing.
They should find out all the old guys in their 70s and 80s…interview them now while they can. Then slowly work back from there.
Think of some of the old champs and challengers…
An hour of Alan Minter, Dennis Andries, Dave Green, Charlie Magri, Chris Pyatt, Pat Cowdell… one on ones with a Bunce or other interviewer…
They could film loads of them if they schedule them for a week.

Yep, keep doing EXACTLY what they're doing now: show the best fights out there.Ezzard wrote:Have you seen the line up over the next month? Amazing.
Nonito Donaire vs Guillermo Rigondeaux this weekend is a great start to the month.
They have left Adam Smith's disastrous sky boxing show in the dust
Re: what does allegedly need to do?
I think Buncey needs his own channel.
Buncenation
When he is asleep, then we need some sort of soft porn phone-in service, of topless girls wearing nothing but a pair of gloves.
We could have an interactive facility, where if you pick "lightweight" then you get a svelte 9-stone sized girl.
Obviously I would head straight to "Heavyweight" for some sexy chat with a 6'8 20 stone Ukranian women.
All for the price of a pint of beer a week. And if you don't subcribe, your simply not a pervert. Err I mean "fan".

Re: what does allegedly need to do?
they actually seem to be showing LESS domestic action than SKY...
i've paid my tenner a month since it started and i'm in no danger of cancelling, but 1 show a month from the UK is simply not good enough!!
