here is a report of a set to between Slade and Pete McCoy. It seems like there was no decision, although Slade was described as slow, which probably indicates that McCoy had slightly the better of the bout.

here is a little build up to the fight between Slade and Jack Brady.

sometimes the stories outside of the ring can be interesting too. Here is a short version of Slade surviving a bullet wound. Cooper was eventually acquitted of attempting to murder slade.

Here is a very early list of results from about 1881 from a boxing day tournament where Herbert Slade won the wrestling event. It also seems that he won the hammer throw and pulled a third in the shotput. Interesting that he won the light hammer throw, but didnt place in the heavy hammer throw.

And here is Herbert Slade answering a wrestling challenger from "Mr Strong", with the advertisement for the Slade Strong wrestling match, which took place at a Jem Mace fightnight.

The Maori Wonder
too bad the poor bastard was talked into becoming a boxer, Sullivan destroyed him easily. Mace and Fox were well off the mark on this one to find a challenger to Sullivan's title claim.

Here is a good description of Slade Vs Miller who himself was a very good athlete. I think an underated boxer and obviously a first class wrestler. It is sadly a wrestling match, but still a good read.
Apparently Miller won when Slade Fagged out and William landed a cross buttocks throw

Here is what i think is an undiscovered Herbert slade fight with Jack davis although it may have just been an exhibition that turned it on. The fight seemed to go 4 rounds with both fighters landing big in teh fourth and Jem mace rushing to separate teh fighters.

There is a really good letter from Jem Mace. It describes what sounds like a Slade victory over Alf Greenfield and also suggests that Mace's Beresford loss never happened.
