I wasn't even born then so I have no idea. Although not really sure what it has to do with their coverage of her death nearly 30 years later.
Because her Government put pressure on the broadcasters to present the opposite of what had happened; the police arrested about 80 miners for all sorts of serious shit and every charge was dropped by the prosecuters (after they had tried to imprison people for things they hadn't done) when it was obvious that the men had been framed. The rule of law that the Consevatives had championed had been perverted to their own ends; that is why it is still relevant now when burying her will cost £10,000,000.

I am 56 and grew up in a solid working class environment.
My house overlooks what was once Corton Wood, the scene of the worst of the violence.
I worked in a soup kitchen at the local church helping out crippled families.
The whole historical period from then still remains raw.
I have to excercise pragmatism every day in my job but in Maggie's case I cannot.
Think of how many Apprenticeships could be created with the money saved if she had a family cremation. Instead we have to have her coffin paraded around on a gun carriage and pay fortunes as taxpayers.
I just don't get it.

I am no fan of Thatcher and I am certainly no fan of British rule in the Falklands BUT I don't see
what else Thatcher could have done over the Falklands, there is no way they should let some tin
pot, fascistic, military dictatorship invade the islands. These people threw civillians out of aeroplanes - the Falklands was one of the few things she was justified in doing to be honest. I don't like saying it but it is true. To leave the population at the hands of an evil pudendum like Galtieri and that military regime would have been wrong.
That lot in Chile did as well didn't they Carlos? Thatcher and Pinochet were very cosy from all accounts.
Indeed Palooka, in fact most of the Latin American military dictatorships were at it, all of the US backed and trained in the CIA sponsored 'School of the Americas' Galtieri was a great pal of the Reagan regime - until he tried to step in on Thatchers action and found out he wasn't that great a mate after all.

They are all like snakes in a pit and it is a shame that some of the worst of us get to the top where they can do such damage; it is a cosmic joke; the fact that they are so feted when an ordinary person would be hated/reviled is bizzare.

Surely it's just the same as it was under Thatcher's reign to a large extent - The working classes don't really factor and so long as the middle class are ok, nobody really cares?

You can already see the slant that certain parts of the press are putting on it, which is the usual lefties and commies and a few bitter Northerners and ex miners need to get over it.

I was always slightly perplexed by people's reactions outside the Midlands, Wales and the North (effectively the coalfield areas), they were largely indifferent and a bit mystified as to what the "problem" was.

It went a bit more global with the poll tax but again it was largely a few angry students, lefites and a few people that looked like they needed a good bath. I didn't see too many purple cord and sweater wearers in the riots.

The parallells are very similar to here with Thatcher, the middle/upper classes loved those regimes like Pinochet, Galtieri, there was a guy in Brazil and Fujimori in Peru. If you talk to some well off Chilean then Pinochet was the greatest man alive - never mind he was a pudendum whose police trained police dogs to rape female prisoners under interrogation. But be sure than most people hated those pudenda.

A mate of mine worked in Jersey for years and got to know a few people. He went to a party where these very well to do people were and got talking to a woman wo was an artist; she was working on a commission, sculpting a goriila. Her family had been gifted so much land from about William the Conquerer days and had a place in the Jersey parliament. They were talking about this and that and she was very surprised that he smoked a bit of dope and his friends back in the North of England did; she said to him; 'But they are the workforce!'

There is a large section of society that are utterly divorced from our situation/needs and feel that we have no relevance to them - as we have no relevance or frame of reference to them. We do live in very different worlds and as we cannot imagine their difficulities neither can they imagine ours.

I was walking through Holland Park after a session, must have been about 4am. I was leathered. I saw something out of the corner of my eye in someone's garden. It was very dark but I went over to have a look.
I nearly shat my pants when I saw this;

Stuff like this always makes me smile, the right wingers and the Mail have been giving the BBC both barrels all week over their coverage of Thatcher's death. As per they're accused of a left-wing bias, now you're accusing them of being pro-Thatcher, and you're not the only one. It reminds me of the Israel-Palestine conflict, they're accused of bias from both sides there too. It means that they're actually doing a decent job of staying neutral when both sides are having a go.
