The Louis vs Conn rematch was originally planned for 1942 but for various reasons it didn't actually happen untill 1946 when both fighters were on the slide.
If the rematch had of happened in 1942 what do you think the outcome would have been?
Did Conn have Louis's number?
Or would the Brown Bomber improve on the rematch as he always did?
Joe Louis.

Louis by KO 9.
How could Conn have Louis's number if he lost the first fight?
Conn was ahead by 2 or 3 rounds at the time of the stoppage on a Louis off-night.
Louis would'nt have pitty-patted through the early rounds like he did in the first fight. He'd come right in and land some heavy stuff early, and Conn's legs wouldn't be enough for him to survive.

no, louis was dehyrated in that fight since he weighed in at 199. conn weighed only 174, so it was told by his handlers to weigh in under 200 so the press wouldnt say louis was taking advantage of a smaller man . so louis a couple days before sweated and dehyrdated himself down to 199, and louis felt like shit. it hurt him a little physically.

Here is a statistic that sticks out for me. Look at the fighters that Louis had fought more than once.
Bob Pastor 1- Louis by dec
2-Louis by KO
Max Scmelling 1- Louis is KO'D
2-Louis by first round KO
Aurtoro Godoy 1-Louis by split dec
2-Louis by KO
Buddy Baer 1-Louis by seveth round KO
2-Louis by first round KO
Joe Walcot 1-Louis by close dec
2-Louis by KO
Those are the five fights not counting Conn in which Louis had rematches, he fared better in the rematch in all five. If I missed any of his rematches feel free to point it out, I did a rather quick scan and could have missed one.
Went back and reread your post KOJOE, I had missed the part where you had already pointed out that Louis had always improved on his rematches, I guess then my post just further validates what you had already rightly pointed out.
Marvin Hagler was another fighter who would go back and avenge a loss or a draw.
