Tom Doran quit pro game? Why?

Post by Wales »

Anyone know why Tom Doran has chosen to quit the pro game? Sparked max maxwell in 1 in his last outing.

Dunno but I definitely wouldn't say he sparked max, he was floored and caught maxwell on the way back in trying to finish him. I thought max was ok but Howard foster stopped him on his feet.

A thread i commented on. Mustve been drunk. "Sparked" wasnt the correct term, admitedly. Did see the fight first time round on eurosport i think it was.

I came accross his name as hes now fighting unliscenced in north wales.

I think expectations were really big for Tom and when he didnt live up to them(he also only beat d mitchell by a point in a fight he could have lost) and i think it broke his heart a bit as i heard he was top dog in the amatuers and whne it didnt happen in the pros put him off the game.

Problem i see with a few welsh lads (in my opinion) - big fish little pond syndrome. Probably tougher to be best amateur in greater manchester than Wales - not meaning to disrespect the welsh lads, but the quality sparring and number of fights is far harder to come by.

I would agree with that Wales. Not enough of a circuit up here, probably more gyms in 5sq miles in Manchester than the whole of North Wales.

Tom has a job where he earns excellent money, but needs his marbles in tact, at least for now

Thought Tom was extremely fortunate against Maxwell and was given a massive favour by the official that night.

It would have been hard for him to go much further.

As wales said, yes he is. Still keeping himself in shape, hopeful he will return. But he can make a lot more money out of boxing.

Selfishly, I want to see a return...

Yes they can go back to the pro's as long as they aren't licensed whilst on unlicensed circuit .
I was helping to train Nathan McIntosh train til he fecked off to another gym without so much as a phone call.
He boxed on one of damian huckers cards after having 5 pro bouts and then returned to the pros to have another one but has had a long time out injured after suffering a career threatening hand injury in his last bout .
He was saying he was returning to the ring after christmas but from what i gather he is confident enough in his hand to return now so just a case of finding a show to get onto i think .

If he wants to come back at 11 stone I would think he is fooling himself

So one of his trainers said. Looking at him id say middle is far more realistic, especially as he was struggling to make LMW before his break.

Whats your basis on him fooling himself?

Dangerous to take that sort of weight off mate middleweight will take some making but it's more realistic IMO

He works in engineering up on Deeside, something like aircraft fitting (maybe a simplification but I am no engineer LOL)

Had a lot of exams on, and neither boxing or his job were things you can do half arsed. Seems he is getting the boxing bug back
