After coming on these boards...
Has anyone ever actually chnaged your mind on anything?
Not pointed out something you didn't know, but actually made ana rgument that made you think differently?

Re: After coming on these boards...
Several years ago, boxscribe and I had a discussion regarding Charley Burley. He thought much more highly about him that I did. We had a cordial debate for awhile. While I never thought quite as highly about Burley as he did, I eventually came around closer to his way of thinking.
I really did not know enough about some of his opponents and boxscribe made good cases for them.
There are some situations where I had not have a strong opinion about a particular subject, and someone will make a good case one way or the other; so I have gone from neutral to feeling strongly about it.
I think one of the problems we have here is that people don't really pay attention to what another person says. Another poster will try to counter their argument, and the person just keeps repeating the same thing as if the other person has not countered them.
Another problem we have is that many people have no real interest in being fair and logical. They just want to rip the guys that they don't like and praise the guys that they do like, whether or not it is warranted.

Yes, all the time. But then again I might be easily swayed.
Re: After coming on these boards...
Several times, for sure. There are people here who know more background than me, people who understand a fight better than me (I might be the only person ever to admit that here!), and I've several times changed my mind specifically, and just as often had my general view of something shifted.

Il Duce usually provides a lot of good background info.SamWise72 wrote:Several times, for sure. Yes, he does. Other people make decent points to back up their case. Of course we aren't all going to agree on everything, but you can respect someone who is at least making a decent case. Other people's arguments amount to little more than "the guy I like is better than the guy that I don't because I say so". And of course there is the gutless
response that some people think passes for a rebuttal.

That's sometimes justified when people come here and spout nonsense, which happens, unfortunately.Ambling Alp II wrote:Yes, he does. Other people make decent points to back up their case. Re: After coming on these boards...
I've learned a few things coming on here. It's nice to read other people's takes on different classic fight and it's also pretty cool that some fighters I don't know of too much get mentioned and I do a little research.
I think it's a bit of shame that things sometimes turn into a prolonged argument, especially when people refuse to listen to reason, but hey.... that's an internet forum.

Re: After coming on these boards...
It's not the refusing to listen/budge that makes it an issue, it's the refusing to stop restating the same positions. Once you get two people intent on that, it's suddenly 8 pages of nothing.

Re: After coming on these boards...
Carlos & i had a heated argument about MAB/Morales/JMM & Herrera/Martinez/Castillo. While I still maintain that the more recent trio is greater, it certainly wasn't as laughable as I made it out to be. All three of them were great fighters. I had seen a bit of them and knew the results, but I've watched a lot more since then. He schooled me on those three.
