Ricky Burns' Friday fight off?

Ricky Burns was meant to be fighting, em, an Italian, for the EU title in Italy on Friday, but it's been removed from the card, on boxrec's schedule at least.

I was going to say what a refreshing change in SN policy this was, letting Ricky go and outbox this Italian and his judges, but if it's not on, I can't, so, eh

SN Policy?

Ricky Burns is not with SN. Get your facts right you fool. Burns is managed by Alex Morrison and has no deal with SN.

Why would SN wish to send a Boxer to fight abroad if they could secure home advantage anyway?

Ask any Boxer if they would prefer to fight on home ground and I am sure the answer would be YES all round.

Only a fantastci purse would make it a worthwhile risk IMO.

Thank you for your kind points. I'm so glad someone can get their facts right. I should imagine the world would probably grind to an instintaneous halt if people like me were allowed to walk around the streets claiming boxers fighting on SN cards are SN fighters without being corrected.

I know he's not managed by Warren, but he has appeared on a lot of Sports Network cards, and has been fighting solely on SN cards since the Earl fight.

I therefore assumed that Sports Network would be keen to keep a close eye and as close control as possible on Ricky Burns' career for the forseeable future, as he is obviously a great prospect.

This led to my next point that I thought it strange that they would let the Italian promoter win the bid and give Ricky a potentially tricky fight abroad.

Incidentally, any response from SN yet on the statement put out on Monday by Simon Block?

It looked a tough ask this early in his career.

As you say, it looked a tough one. Definitely not impossible though. I've never seen Di Meco. If either of his fights with Thonas were shown on British TV I totally missed them, so unfortunately I can't produce any facts to base my theory on. But whilst he's finished off all his opponents since the Thomas fights inside 4 rounds, the opposition doesn't look great. I would've said it would have gone the distance, and tentatively suggest Burns would be intellegent enough to perhaps outbox him, assuming the judges arn't drafted in from Narnia

I've tentatively picked Burns via UD12 should the fight still be on but he can't expect any favours off the judges, after all Italy is the new erm...Italy.

That is probably why it is such a tough ask - the venue, I would have favoured Burns - but I don't think he will knockout many in his career. Even though he is big for Super Feather his punching technique isn't great.
