In ring rule question

Post by damianhucker1 »

Something i saw happen on an unlicensed show last night made me wonder about what should have happened and what would happen in the pro game etc , i hadnt seen it before from what i recall .

a lad got knocked out in the 2nd round of a 3 round fight that he was clearly winning at the time , the punch landed on the back of the head , was very obvious what had happened and the opponent acknowledged it too .

But the ref counted him out and when he was questioned about it being at the back of the head he just shrugged his shoulder , a well known ref on the circuit too .

Now in my view it should obviously have not been ruled as a knockdown , but the lad was certainly in no position to continue had it not been considered a legal knockdown anyway .

So the question is what should have been done ?

A dq would have been extremely harsh , should it have been simply a no contest ? , or am i completely wrong and the ref did the right thing ?

its done my head in all day so first thing ive done when getting home is come on here to ask what people think .

No Contest or Technical Draw would have been the likely outcome if it was ruled an accident foul.

DQ if it was intentional

Im pretty sure he didnt intentionally land on the back of the head , he just winged a big left hook in and boom , guy went straight down , i can only assume the ref didnt realise it was the back of the head , either that or didnt know what to do , certainly the only time i can ever remember seeing it happen .

The referees decision is final in those cases, but if he had known it was a foul/illegal blow the BBBofC rules states that it should be a NC, if the blow was not intentional. Intentional blow would be a DQ.
