Cunningham, who is a cruiserweight, ran him around the ring, was landing punches at will and knocked him down heavily in the second round. He was totally outclassing Fury but size counted in the end. Haye, Pulev, and Vitali would all smash Fury

Re: TYSON FURY Spoiler
Fury did what he always does..... HE FOUND A WAY TO WIN.
He didn't fight like he did against Kevin Johnson, because Cunningham is a different fighter.
He got hit with a massive shot to the brain, he went down, fixed his hair, got up and went about his business.
As much as people think he's thick, Fury changed his gameplan from outside fighter working behind the jab, to moving inside with his hands up and mixing it up.
Oh, and for all the haters, he has found a way to beat Cunningham, Chisora and Johnson, who were all ranked fighters. If he's that bad, how did he beat them? HE FOUND A WAY TO WIN.

Since when laying on top of someone, shoving your nut in and holding & hitting some kind of ingenious, Robinson-esque mid-fight switching of strategy?
He couldn't outbox Cunningham, or take his punches, so he just dived on him and smothered him until he was exhausted.
It's not "hating", gentlemen. It's review and critique. Not everyone sees Fury through your rose-tinted spectacles, calm down and be happy your man won.

i never said he was the heavyweight SRR but walking in hands down trying to be roy jones then moving in hands up and atempting to cut down the ring is an adjustmentloaded_gloves wrote:Since when laying on top of someone, shoving your nut in and holding & hitting some kind of ingenious, Robinson-esque mid-fight switching of strategy?

I didn't say it was Robinsonesque you plank.
At the start of the fight, he fought with his hands down and worked the jab. That wasn't working, so he changed to fighting on the inside and out muscling his opponent.
Only an idiot would not see that as a change of strategy.

Knocked him down heavily? Fury was fine, it was a flash knockdown.dr_devious wrote:Cunningham, who is a cruiserweight, ran him around the ring, was landing punches at will and knocked him down heavily in the second round. He was totally outclassing Fury but size counted in the end.
3 of the top 5 heavyweights beat Fury do they? That would hardly make Fury crap.dr_devious wrote:Haye, Pulev, and Vitali would all smash Fury
Fury is one of the most proven heavyweights in the world. Those that don't like him can now only claim a small handful of the best heavyweights will beat him without looking completely silly.

Re: TYSON FURY Spoiler
These are the fights that are being mentioned for Fury............Pulev next in an eliminator then Vitali. Fury has also claimed that the Klitschko's and Haye want no part of him. He looked completely shite last night, he's a tough bloke but his boxing skills were exposed badly by Cunningham. It shows how threadbare the heavyweight division is that he'd have some sort of chance with the other contenders
Re: TYSON FURY Spoiler
Cunningham is a 36 year old blown up Cruiserweight who was outweighed by three stones. Fury was very nearly sparked and won due to exhausting the smaller man by holding/laying on him for which he had a point deducted. The punch that finished it was that of a big Heavyweight administered to a tired, blown up Cruiserweight. When he fights a good, motivated, fit, full blown heavyweight (don't bang on about Chisora who was massively out of shape), he will get knocked out.
The Journey he is on will be rung out until then and he will make a few quid - good luck to him.

He's huge and he has balls. In today's division that's more than enough. He'll make Wlad uncomfortable at a bare minimum. I certainly don't see him winning, but he won't just sit back and wait for it to happen like everybody else does. He'll force Wlad to be entertaining. Sign me up.loaded_gloves wrote:But Saad - he simply can't box! Cunningham made him look ridiculous. Fun fight no doubt, but Fury as champion? no way.

Re: TYSON FURY Spoiler
I dont understand why nobody cannot just appreciate the fact we all saw a very entertaining fight, and now have a solid heavyweight contender who is wildly charismatic? I won't say Fury is ready for the Klitschko's, because he is not, but this kid is showing alot of things people generally root for:
#1- He can adapt; he proved this against Rogan, and against Cunningham. Its great we have a man whose willing to learn, abandon what's not working, and apply what needs to be done to win.
#2- He can take punches; he's been floored only twice in his career so far and they were flash knock downs. We need a guy who can take shots in this division, in order to succeed.
#3- He can box and slug; while one may argue he's better at the latter than the other, let's keep one thing in mind, a very tough, strong man with a little 'know how' can be awkwardly dangerous to any man in the world, especially when that man is 6'9" and 260 pounds.
#4- He has heart; he demonstrates this time and again in his fights. Heck, this man was one pound when he was born, and has become one of the top men in the world. What he may lack in other departments, he makes up for in determination. There is no quit in Fury.
#5- Willingness; most guys simply ain't willing to get rough and nasty in that ring because it sets themselves up to get hit right back. Fury isn't afraid to exchange shots, in order to get the upper hand.
#6- Mentality; despite his persona as this loud mouthed braggart Fury is quite humble and focused on the goals in front of him. He works hard and under pressure, shows he can have a clear head and switch gears. The fact that his long standing manager/trainer/uncle wasn't able to be in his corner, shows he doesn't have emotional hang ups. He does what needs to be done.
#7- The It Factor; with his size, charisma, resistance to punches, this man is the only example I know of, of a top ten contender (a white man) who has ever been that much of a performer as he is a fighter. Not even Gerry Cooney was as entertaining on the mic at any time in his career. Chalk it up to race, or business, but giant white guys who can hit and have a personality are worth more than gold in this sport.
What is there not to like?

What Fury brings to the table is willingness. He isnt afraid to get hit or hurt. And with a man like that, with his size, he will force Klitschko into throwing for the fences. I only hope Fury can make Klitschko fight backing up, cus Vladimir can't fight for shit on the retreat. Jesus bless.

I couldn't care less if Wlad stops him in 20 seconds. This guy delivers entertaining fights and that's what the division needs. I can watch Jr. Flyweights for razor sharp skills.
Re: TYSON FURY Spoiler
Tyson is the second coming of Gerry Cooney, but is Wlad his Larry Holmes?
One point that bothers me. When the Marquess of Queensberry mandated that the fights take place in a 20 ft square, the average heavyweight was under 6 feet tall. If that ring in Madison Square Gardens was 20 ft square, it should have been 25 instead so Cunningham could box instead of wrassle. If not, then sink to the level of MMA and have them fight in a cage for gawd's sake!

Re: TYSON FURY Spoiler
Brutal finish. The body shot took the wind out of Cunningham's sails, excellent uppercut to follow and a vicious right hook to close the show. For a heavyweight, Fury throws very effective body shots and the power is coming through now. There is no quit in this guy and he knows how to entertain the fans. The Americans will be back for more, no doubt.
and we'll be left stuck with Price and Chirsora back home
Another 12-18 months and i reckon he'll be ready to mount a serious challenge for a world title.

Re: TYSON FURY Spoiler
This is all true, and he's giving us a brilliant ride, which we'll all miss when he's gone. The trouble is that he's talking about himself as the second coming of Holmes and Ali and Lewis all in one, so are his fans, and so he's being judged on those standards. Truth is, he can't box a lick; Bruno was a much better boxer, to pick just one. He can certainly FIGHT, but box? No. It makes me doubt him. If he beats Pulev, I will change my tune, I swear it.HomicideHenry wrote:I dont understand why nobody cannot just appreciate the fact we all saw a very entertaining fight, and now have a solid heavyweight contender who is wildly charismatic? I haven't seen that fight, and I'll watch it. None of the other fights I've seen have given me the impression that he's more than an unfit clumsy lummox.
Re: TYSON FURY Spoiler
He boxed quite well against Rogan too. Albeit from southpaw stance all night.
Re: TYSON FURY Spoiler
Having been really impressed with the skills he showed in the Johnson fight, Saturday's performance left me pretty annoyed with Fury; hopefully Uncle Peter is giving him an earholing. But he is undeniably an entertainer in there.

Re: TYSON FURY Spoiler
Boxing well against the passive, safety-first Kevin Johnson is one thing. Boxing against Cunningham and any live body who can move and hit back is a different matter entirely.
Against a skilled boxer using a gameplan Fury is going to look as clumsy as he did the other night.

Re: TYSON FURY Spoiler
Fury would do well in wwe. Can't take my eyes of his fights and fair play to him to getting where he is. I just cannot see him going any further.
