I think a peak Herbie Hide before he fought Bowe would have probably stopped fury in a few rounds, but saying that Herbie didnt have a good chin either. I think its a toss of a coin fight but would edge Herbie Hide

I feel the same way, though Fury still may improve.

Fury has good recuperative powers, he doesn't stay hurt for long.

Wlad was stopped by Purity after he got exhausted.
He was stopped by two huge punchers, Sanders and Brewster.
Fury's appeared nearly gone from two guys who aren't big punchers.

rover what can you not understand
no one is arguing the guy has superman whiskers
fighters with weaker chins have become champions

fury needs to work on defense the same as wlad
if wlad never had emanuel in his corner
the guy would not be champion today

fury can protect his chin

instead of saying fury is no wlad

give me specific reasons why fury
can not become champion
if he works on defense

vitali you may as well say is retired
wlad is 37 years old and on his way out

who on this vast wasteland called the heavyweight
division is so much better than a 6 ft 9 inch monster?

just who will be the champion in 3-5 years from now

fury is stepping up fighting contenders no one else
seems to want to fight other contenders
fury keeps upping his game

I said Fury is no Wlad.
I never said he couldn't win a belt.
Sure he could--in a post-Klit era, of course.
There's no way he'll be champ while the Klits are around.

Also down against Steve Pannell.

He's been down at least 13 times, possibly 15 I'd have to check.

Geez, and I thought Floyd Patterson was bad! (His career today of knock-downs was apparently 19). You'd have to favour the first one to land cleanly to win. Total 50/50 who that would be - maybe Hide's speed in the first two rounds would be decisive?!

He hasn't fought a good puncher yet, so we'll see how well he recovers when he gets clocked by someone with a punch.

Fury does still have time to improve, but he looks crude even by the standards of the current HW crop. OTOH he is quite large.

He'll definitely be knocked cold at some point. He just looks more like Tommy Morrison than Duane Bobick in that category. His size, heart, stamina and willingness to fight make him the most watchable Heavyweight in the world.

Agree about the Bobick/Morrison analogy, although Bobick got stopped by fighters light years better than anyone that Fury has faced yet, so the jury is still out. He can be fun to watch, but his punching technique is so crude I find it almost painful to watch. He makes Jack O'Halloran look skilled.

I don't recall Bobick ever recovering from being hurt, so I'm comfortable saying he isn't in that company. Luckily for Fury he doesn't have to worry about a Ken Norton, there are plenty of Kallie Knoetzee's though. He wasn't light years better than anyone.

Fury's main weakness to me isn't a weak chin, it's how sloppy his approach is. When he's really going for it and attacking hard, he's wide open for almost any kind of punch. He gets off-balance when he throws hard right hands, if he misses he winds up standing southpaw or just squared up altogether. He definitely still needs a lot of work on his technique no doubt. Cunningham caught him with the huge right hand in the 2nd and caught him flush on a few more occasions in the 3rd and 4th rounds, wobbling him pretty clearly.

Fury's got a lot of heart, but his technique is still very amateurish. He has SO much he can improve.

You can't teach heart though and you also can't teach BIG. He has both of those things. Everything else can come if he works on it.
