Tyson Fury : Unbelievable pantomine show lol.

Post by Quixall »

Tyson Fury is no boxer lol. I thought that as time went on, he would develop some technique, but no, that hasn't materialised. He is so open to shots, hence the second round knock down and still can't deliver a proper shot. His overall technique is horrendous and i don't know why he is persisting with being trained by a family member and not a proper professional boxing coach. Fury has a decent jab, he has a decent chin, decent stamina and plenty heart and can bang a bit aswell, but he could do so much more if he actually knew how to throw shots properly. The guy has little or no defence and is wide open to being knocked spark out by someone in the near future.

However, what a character Tyson is lol. Looked like a maniac on a tight string before the fight, spouting about being best around. Then has his normal brawl type of fight which was gripping to watch, even though it lacked any finer nuances of boxing ability from Fury. Then he gets knocked down in the second only to get back up, ride out the storm and knock his man out in the 7th round. I thought his little speech was excellent at the end, but then came the song lmao. He got more in tune as it went on, but i had a big grin over my face. That is why people like Tyson, he is unique and a complete one off and an entertainer. He will put bums on seats, because his fights grip you and he has is pure pantomime lol.

Well done Tyson, can't wait for the next fight :D

I actually think if he had his usual trainer in his corner he wouldn't have been put down because he would have given him a rollicking about showboating and taunting Cunningham in the first. The knockdown was down to having his left hand so low. Not saying he wouldn't have taken repeated right hands but just that he wouldn't have been put down.

His Uncle seems to give sound advice in the corner and Tyson also seems to listen to him.

He's been with other trainers and IMO his hsi performances under his uncle have been his best by far

Some sensible points in the posts above. I think getting hit in round two was more wrecklessness than anything else. He will have to curb his erratic temperament though. As for his uncle Peter he got him fit and as said above he may well have calmed him last night and thus avoided the knockdown. Tyson certainly didn't seem to be listening to Clifton Mitchell.

Not having his uncle made a huge difference. He did not use a lot of the attributes that he's been working on in his last few fights.

But, it made for exciting tv.

Indeed, it was like the old Fury in there last night. Steaming in with no thought to defence, acting the goat in the ring. It was probably a combination of the above and feeling the need to impress on his US pro debut but he could have made last night a lot easier on himself albeit a lot less entertaining for us. Love watching him though.

He's a prize bell end. He would be much more likeable and endearing if he didn't think he was a good boxer and up there with the best of them, cocky, arrogant loud mouth typical gypo but you can't help watch him.

I think he is very likeable, which is a big selling point for him, he has genuine charisma, and while he is not in the Klits class he can fight, obv he has natural size advantages but he uses them well.
I was impressed by his conditioning too, it was a gruelling fight and he got stronger and stronger.

Cunningham is a poor mans Haye. Former Cruiser, decent lateral movement, fast but no power (no power at Cruiser but still floored Fury). If that was Haye after the first knock down, you would've seen the sudden flurry of punches you got vs Enzo Mac/Audley and lights out!

He's a better boxer than he showed on saturday. I dont think you can read too much into that! He was far too caught up in the occasion and was trying to impress. Thats understandable though because he knew the kind of platform he was on. He couldnt of really boxed a safety first fight in his american debut on NBC which is a major network in the states so he wanted to put on a show and I think it made him look worse than he actually is.

He's a bit of a likeable pantomine villan. He doesn't quite know whether he wants the crowd screming or the crowd booing - and thats his problem.

The wound up act at the begining, the needless shove, the rough house dirty tactics (nout wrong with that), then the very respectful speech.... then the awful singing.

If you combine the stuff pre fight, and the dirty stuff during the fight and the singing.... then you'll get a fighter who people would pay to see flatterned - but there is a likeability to Fury, who makes goes against his box office nature somewhat.

What also IMO goes against his box office appeal is that he has a strange build. I've never seen a fighter who physique changes so much (while still in training). I watched the fight with the old man and I said.... "Oh Fury is in shape for this one (we all saw the pictures), looks like he has taken him seriously".... when Fury entered the ring, took off his rope my old man was saying.... "I thought you said he was in shape". Fury just doesn't "look the part" which I think is a big deal for Heavyweight attractions. He didn't look like he had any definition on him at all.

Good post Stu.

I think you make some good observations. Fisrtly, you can tell that Tyson is a nice bloke at heart who is putting on the nasty man image and it doesn't quite come off. Your example of the pre fight bull and the little speech after confirm that, but he was out to make an impression and he kind of did that one way or another. I too have questioned his physique and have noticed that he looks good in training but on fight night looks as if he has put another stone of weight on him. As daft as it sounds, i don't think the guard around his trunks does him any favours. It kind of splits his body in two, with rather skinny legs at the bottom and this hulking frame at the top. I also watched this fight with my dad and he comented on his body shape also and thought he was a pretty awful boxer to watch lol. These things shouldn't make a difference, but in reality they do and that is why someone like Broner can never be a Floyd, because he doesn't have the beautification, if i can say that lol. Broner has the swagger, but he doesn't have the film star looks aka Floyd, so he can never truely fill those boots.

Yeah i agree that he can look a lot better than he did on saturday night, but he has always lacked good technique and simply doesn't throw shots correctly. He doesn't set his feet correctly, fails to use his legs and body properly and throws everthing with his arms and from angles that don't deliver any accuracy or speed.

I don't think you need to be particularly good looking to be box office (Ricky Hatton is no model) but you have got to look the part. Ricky looked ripped to shreds in the ring.

Tyson looks like a big hulking man, reasonably fit but not a boxer build. He just looks like someone who has watched his diet than someone who has trained excessively. There is no definition, his arms aren't well defined. He looks like a wrestler who fancies his chances a bit as opposed to a man who boxes for a living.

He probably has not fully matured yet. 24 is young for a heavyweight, especially one his size.

True Mickey, but I don't think age really prevents you from looking ripped. Danny Williams looked the part in his early 20's smashing Michael Murray. Physically he looked fit (how things turned out though).

I don't think Fury has the body type to look like a body beautiful. I am not suggesting he isn't fit or not training.... but look how many boxing anaroks question how much John McDermott trains going by his size. Boxing is one sport in which looking the part doesn't always mean being the best (e.g. Tony Tubbs, Tim Witherspoon)... however I think its a big reason for box office appeal and the level of respect. I cannot think of many unfit looking heavyweights who, despite their abilities, had massive box office appeal. Even Larry Holmes was a fighter who wasn't the star his talent should have taken him.... I think its cause, although an adonis of muscle compared to some of today's heavyweights, he didn't look the part compared to the likes of Norton, Foreman and Ali.

Look at how many people tipped David Price to beat Fury pre the Thompson fight. I remain convinced that a large reason why so many tipped Price was because he looked physically better and looked like he was more dedicated.

With Floyd and Broner, i am talking about global appeal. Hatton had good covergae in this country but people outside of it couldn't give a rats about him or his profile. Floyd is more international and has that star appeal. Ali had the looks, Leonard had the looks, Floyd has the looks and it helps a lot.
