Even stated that Marvin Hagler was the 'best' Middleweight in the World, and that the
Hugo Corro vs. Vito Antuofermo bout should have been the undercard below both the
Marvin Hagler vs. Norberto Cabrera 10-Round bout, and Elijah 'Tap Tap' Makathani vs Alfredo Horatio Cabral bout.

I still thought Hugo Corro deserved a Draw in the bout with Vito.

All the scorecards had Vito winning 6 of the last 7 Rounds.

Problem for Hugo, is he should have had at least 'one' 10-Round non-title tune-up bout
after his February car accident injury.

Hugo was injured just before the originally scheduled bout for February 3, 1978.

Reports from San Remo, where Hugo was training, was that he was not in 100% physical condition,
and was having problems getting down to 160 lbs.

May have been pressure from ABC-TV and Bob Arum --------

Hugo definitely needed at least one and possibly two - '10-Round' non-title bouts.

It was obvious in the bout with Vito, as Hugo was arm-weary after 8-Rounds.

I'm pretty sure I had Hugo up by 1 point after 15-Rounds, and was shocked at the Decision.

I thought that Hugo Coro had done more than enough to earn a Draw (at worst).

Over the first 10-Rounds, Vito had landed little-to-nothing, and a had a Round taken away.

To take away a Champion's Title in a non-action bout like that, a big stretch.

Though Hugo Corro fought 'to protect' his Title, he was not beaten in my eyes.

Controversy.

Round 7 - Vito used his head to flagrantly butt Hugo Corro '3-Times' in the first half of Round 7,
before Referee - Ernesto Magana took away '1-Point'.

Vito was mauling and brawling during the first half of Round 7, but after the head-butt deduction,
Hugo came on with better effective punches over the second-half of the round to clearly win Round 7.

Round 7, should have been scored {10-8} for Hugo Corro.

Which both Judges (Wally Thon and Roland Dakin) had scored the Round.

Referee - Ernesto Magana's scoredcard 'originally' was read at 146-146 'Even'.

Ernesto Magana had scored Round 7 {10-8} for Hugo Corro, including the 1-Point deduction for
'head-butting'.

Initially, Ernesto Magana had Hugo Corro winning Round 7 {10-9}, and with a point dediuction, it
was scored as {10-8}.

But, Ernesto Magana said he meant to score it as an 'Even' {10-10} Round 7 initially, and with a point
deduction, Hugo Corro would have had a {10-9 Score}, instead of a {10-8}.

Without a point deduction, Referee - Ernesto Magana's scorecard would have read 147-145, or
5-3-7 in Rounds for Vito Antuofermo.....

I have no problem with a view that Corro won, though I don't accept that his being the champion had any relevance (should have, that is) with respect to how the officials scored the bout.

The only reason that Vito Antuofermo got this bout over Marvin Hagler, was because Marvin
had a 'signed' contract with CBS-TV that he couldn't get out of.

That fight contract was 'signed' in December 1978 - when Marvin was still 'under contract'
with CBS.

The Hugo Corro vs. Vito Antuofermo bout had to go forth, to fulfill their Television contract
obligations.

Hugo Corro injured his right hand a couple days before the February 3, 1979 bout.

Then he badly injured his right ankle in late April 1979.

As of late-May 1979 - Hugo Corro was '80 Kg's (175 lbs.)

He should've postponed the fight.

Interesting statement by Vito Antuofermo after his Draw with Marvin Hagler.

Vito said Hugo Corro was stronger than Marvin Hagler, and punched with equal power
in his right-hand.

Given the lack of objectivity (considering Hagler'd held him to a draw while he'd gotten the dec over Corro), that should be taken with a grain of salt.

Hugo Corro was so embarrassed by his performance, he retired.

And I thought he retained his Championship by a 15-Round Draw.

Hugo did have an excuse, as he was coming off of 'two' bad injuries prior
to this bout.

Vito was horrible for the first 10-Rounds, and sloppy for the last 5-Rounds.

Too bad he didn't stay retired.
