Fury and that forearm/elbow combo
I have watched it countless times now and I have to say that for me, the way he knocked out Cunningham looked on the very edge of illegality.
I`m not so well versed in the actual detailed rules of boxing, but when you blindside a guy by pushing and holding his head to one side with your forearm, obscuring his view intentionally and then smacking him straight in the chops, it seems a little off.
Just before this he simply pushed Cunningham into the corner like a wrestling move and then lined him up by using his forearm to prevent Cunningham`s head from moving.
Maybe it`s perfectly legit, I simply don`t know, but it looked very iffy to me and I immediately thought the ref was gonna disqualify Fury, but he did nothing.
Strange that not more has not been more made of it, but as I say maybe I`ve got the wrong end of the stick and it was actually perfectly legal.

Re: Fury and that forearm/elbow combo
Alot of boxers use dirty tatics sometimes, dare I say it "especially travelers" its the refs job to decide what's ok and what's not, he didn't see it ( or think it was illegal ) so nothing got done.
A dirty fighter won't get to the top without alot of heart and skill, a time will come where his dirty tatics Just aren't good enough alone !

Re: Fury and that forearm/elbow combo
Luis Alberto Lazarte got to the top (so to speak) by being dirty, having scumbags as fans/backers and the referees (and judges) in his pocket. Despicable fighter. Think he has something like 7DQ's on his record and from what I've seen of him he could have had 3 or 4 more.jessi wrote:Alot of boxers use dirty tatics sometimes, dare I say it "especially travelers" its the refs job to decide what's ok and what's not, he didn't see it ( or think it was illegal ) so nothing got done.

Re: Fury and that forearm/elbow combo
it looked terrible in slow motion. He's basically pinned a smaller, tiring guy there and whacked him. There's using your size advantage but not like that. I'm interested to know what Fury thought he was doing when he did that as it was quite a deliberate effort. Maybe he didn't plan to do it or maybe he just didn't give a sh*t as long as he won?
I'm not too sure that Steve would want a rematch anyway, warrior that he is but things were getting a little uncomfortable in there for him in the last round.

Re: Fury and that forearm/elbow combo
it was worse than the "foul" Chad Dawson ended up being deemed to have committed against BHop.
Cunningham has a good case. Would Fury have KO'd him without the foul? Perhaps, Steve seemed gassed to me, but we can't say for sure, who knows maybe Steve could've took a round off to regain a little stamina. He would have been in with a great shout on the cards considering the KD & 1 point off Fury.
I'm not sure what purpose a complaint serves though, i think most pick fury in a rematch. ultimately i think it's still a case of onwards & upwards to the next challenge for Fury.

its part of the sport, i couldnt really give a fukk. i thought it was quite a well delivered infringement. PBF does that kind of thing all the time with the forearm and it gets called "wiley" and "old skool" etc.

Not by me. He gets called a sneaky smug pudendum when I see him do it, & am always shouting for the other fella to wind one up & nail him right in the nads the first time he pulls any of that shit off. I was laughing my arse off when Ortiz gave him one with the nut after being forearmed/elbowed "professionally"; only the fact that Victor was such a knob-bar led to his downfall, imo, it's totally the way to go when a bloke's doing that to you & perfectly justified, I think meself.stevieb_8006 wrote:its part of the sport, i couldnt really give a fukk. i thought it was quite a well delivered infringement. On-topic: Tyson's developing into quite the sneaky pudendum. He's learned the big bloke holdathon/body you down thing very well; Wlad is obviously the master at this & Lenny was Steward's first attempt at perfecting it. Fury has been watching the right tapes.
It'll get him far, & round my gaff will elicit cries of encouragement to any smaller fighters he faces along the lines of "Let the big pudendum have one right in the bollocks the first time he does that, whilst you're still fresh!!! Go on, right in the nuts!"
I feel this is a perfectly legitimate response to the new superheavyweight mauling tactics.
Whether or not anyone will follow my intricate plan is yet to be seen.

Re: Fury and that forearm/elbow combo
Yeah i thought it was a foul straight away and having seen it again i havent changed my mind, put it this way if the right hand didnt put Cunningham down then no doubt the ref would have warned Fury, maybe even penalised him seeing as he already had a point deducted earlier in the fight, there was a lot of fouling from Fury in the fight but its up to the ref to sort it out,but in my book if Cunningham was my fighter i would be very upset

Your plan seems to convuluted to me. Simplify please.Datsue wrote:Not by me. I mentioned it in a previous post it was very dirty .forcefraser wrote:I have watched it countless times now and I have to say that for me, the way he knocked out Cunningham looked on the very edge of illegality.

Cunningham to his credit didnt use it as an excuse.
Fury was prob starting to tire too and looked to finish anyway he could.
But he could have done him serious damage.
Can an infringement be judged post fight?

Re: Fury and that forearm/elbow combo
It was dirty, maybe. If the ref don't see it or pull him up on it then it makes no difference.
Watch Mike Tyson for dirty. His uppercut come forearm/elbow smash was a thing of cheating beauty.
He got the job done which is the name of the game.

Here here!!
B-Hop has been doing this sort of things for years and has been praised
Re: Fury and that forearm/elbow combo
It looked pretty clear to me that Cunningham's valiant effort had reached it's limit. Whether by fair means or foul, Fury was going to win sooner rather than later hence the lack of uproar.desperados wrote:Would Fury have KO'd him without the foul? Afterwards Cunningham himself only slightly touched on that illegal blow. Very classy interview really considering the primitive style he'd been forced to succumb to.
Re: Fury and that forearm/elbow combo
Clearly I'm shit at watching boxing - never noticed pbf using the forearm.
Re: Fury and that forearm/elbow combo
Good move as far as I'm concerned, this is pro boxing, it's hardly like when Buchanan got banged low. You do what you can get away with.

That's because Mayweather is notorious for flagrant use of the elbow.Trojans44 wrote:Clearly I'm poo at watching boxing - never noticed pbf using the forearm.
& one of those things you're not allowed to mention about him, like Roy Jones & steroids. He does it literally every ten seconds, & whenever anyone throws a right hand he moves to his right, bends his left arm & puts the point of his elbow in his opponent's face. Every time someone moves towards him, elbow. Every time he's going into or out of a clinch, he leads with the elbow.

Re: Fury and that forearm/elbow combo
Cunningham is a notorious crybaby. I remember when he thumbed Troy Ross in the eye after being knocked down, that really was illegal.
Cunningham whined after the fight about Fury being bigger, so I ask, why then did he take the fight?

Re: Fury and that forearm/elbow combo
Which is all that matters really. He can be called whatever, it won't change anything. One man's "dirty" is another man's "clever". If he knew he could get away with it and knew the ref was weak and knowingly employed "dirty" tactics to get the job done. Well done him. The Ref should come in for all the flak not Tyson.lillywhite14 wrote:

Re: Fury and that forearm/elbow combo
I didn't think Cunningham whined, I thought he explained. I think he's realised he can't fight blokes this big. It was a foul, and far from Fury's only foul, but who needs a rematch? Cunningham only had a round or so left in him anyway.
