8 rounds of exciting action or 12 boring rounds last nite.

Watched the contender rematch on itv2 last nite, and it was a great 8 round fight. Should rounds be reduced so that we can get more action in some top fights? As we do have a lot of fairly boring 12 round fights where guys do nothing for minutes because they are having a breather, resting and pacing themselves to go the distance. i.e Tarver, jones, hopkins.

The fights were not necessarily exciting becasue they were 8 rounders. Alot of the best action happens in the final rounds IMO when both fighters are fucked.

How pissed off would we have been if Corrales-Castillo I was stopped after 8 rounds

yes, as i said SOME fights. It would be difficult to choose which ones though. also there is no problem with the lighter divisions. Reducing the rounds of some top fights may never happen. Just a thought though to rid us of possible boring fights.

Possibly, but I think that Jones Vs Tarver would have gone the same way because Jones was hoping to counterpunch but Tarver boxed very well.

Probably be better if fighters who don't mix it up get points deducted or get money taken out of their purse. I don't know how much Roy got paid, but he didn't earn his money that night.

I wouldn't say that t sharp...you can't beat a good 12 rounder. You should get into Japanese Boxing if you want none stop action for 12 rounds. I watched Eagle Kyowa V Katsunari Takayama for the WBC Minimumweight title the other day, talk about fitness. From round one they just found each other in the middle of the ring and threw relentless shots for 3 minutes all the way through the fight. I was knackered watching it!!

I don't think any boxers should have guaranteed money before the fight starts, they should agree on percentages of a purse for the winner and loser

No I agree, perhaps I should have expanded my point.

You get these PPV guys earning seven figures but not always delivering, then you get a couple of well matched guys prepared to rip it up over 10 or 12 rounds but getting a lot less money. I suppose it's all TV and spectator money so the marquee fighters are always onto an earner.
