Out of all of FW's boxers, I would say he tried the hardest for Kev. Getting a strictly domestic level fighter two World title shots, including one right on his doorstep, was great work. He even lent him money and put up with a lot of sh!t from him over the years.earsjohn wrote:Ingrate.

Personally I think Mitchell is one of the biggest underachievers in British boxing at the moment. He has all the technique, skill and class required to be a proper world class fighter. In my opinion he is the more talented fighter than Ricky Burns but it is a classic case of who is more dedicated and focused.
I'd love for him to win a world title but I think it is probably too late now.

Mate it's a case of he got his ass handed to him by a much better boxer accept it move on.
Of coarse Kevin's talented but don't knock Ricky's achievements coz of Kevin's underachievments.
If as you say he didn't show dedication he's only himself to blame but I think he could maybe still win a world title

I think Ricky is an overrall better technician than Mitchell but I think Mitchell's chin is a little suspect aswell which doesnt help.billy nelson wrote:Finch wrote:Personally I think Mitchell is one of the biggest underachievers in British boxing at the moment. Not totally, but I do think Kev got the kid gloves treatment compared to most.earsjohn wrote:And all purely out of the kindness of his own heart.mickey1975 wrote:Out of all of FW's boxers, I would say he tried the hardest for Kev. How could he win a world title? Who against? He was never all that. Katsidis and Burns were on a completely different level and they are not 'elite'.billy nelson wrote:Finch wrote:Personally I think Mitchell is one of the biggest underachievers in British boxing at the moment. i still think kev could win a world title but not at lightweight, i still think that with the right training and diet he could make super feather he's just not big enough for 9st 9lbs ??? does anyone else think he could do 9st 4lbs ??
Re: kevin mitchell has left allegedly!
I don't recall knocking Ricky's achievements. I merely stated I felt he has more talent than Burns.billy nelson wrote:Finch wrote:Personally I think Mitchell is one of the biggest underachievers in British boxing at the moment. Re: kevin mitchell has left allegedly!
Well, he is a decent Euro operator but has been shielded for years and years. Typical W@rren treatment, been fighting cans for most of his career, building up a statically impressive KO record etc....Put into something like World Class, he got destroyed. Twice.
There were a couple of posters who used to go mental if anyone suggested that Mitchell was anything other that World Class. I just never, ever got excited about him. Ever. I used to see the level he was fighting at and he was at that same stale, predictable level for years. He never learned anything new or got better. He just became stale and regressed. A lot of it was W@rren and the TV Commentators plying the viewers with huge amounts of spin and, frankly, BS.
Good luck to the guy because a) he has had problems and b) he has children to look after (and that is hard work), he will start off with some straight forward fights, then maybe some kind of Euro and depending how those pan out, start regressing back into domestic level and then call it a day after another defeat or two.

Re: kevin mitchell has left allegedly!
Exactly, the arguement about Mitchell having more talent went away a long time ago. He was completely outclassed in every department. Burns would win every time, Mitchell did nothing to suggest he could change the result in a re-match. Mitchell may have had the support from his promoter and showcased more early on against some inferior opponents but when he has stepped up, he has had his arse handed to him. I like him as a fighter but he is not more talented than Burns.
Re: kevin mitchell has left allegedly!
Talent alone doesn't always win. But let's agree to disagree. It's just my view.
You also missed the subtle compliment I was paying to Burns in that he makes the most of his talent.

No I've made the most of his talent turning him into a world class fighter, you simply can't bring yourself to say he's a genuine world class fighter and that in itself is very very sad my friendFinch wrote:Talent alone doesn't always win. But let's agree to disagree. It's just my view.

Only you could find offence in compliment.
Also, are you taking most of the credit for where Burns is today in his career?

I was going to say, that did seem awfully modest of Billy therekevo wrote:billy nelson wrote:No I've made the most of his talent turning him into a world class fighter, you simply can't bring yourself to say he's a genuine world class fighter and that in itself is very very sad my friendFinch wrote:Talent alone doesn't always win.
