Was a little surprised that Guerrero tried to box rather than fight though, I felt the only way he would get any joy was the rough-house stuff along with his work rate but both were lacking tonight.
Taking nothing away from what was a classic Mayweather performance though.

Re: Predictions then for Floyd/Guerrero?
Went exactly how I thought it would go really. I was amazed so many people were thinking Guerrero could beat Floyd. He had nothing that Floyd hadn't seen before and was made to look amateurish in there. Not sure anyone in and around welterweight can even be competative with Floyd at the moment. I'd see Floyd dominating Canelo and there really is no-one else around apart from Pacman and that won't happen.SteveDow wrote:Mayweather by clear UD. Something like 117-111 or 118-110.
I think Guerrero will have his moments early on but like everyone else Floyd will work him out and ease to a comfortable decision win.
I just don't see what Guerrero has that can beat Floyd. He's not a big puncher and even if he was Mayweather has never shown chin vulnerabilities. He's the smaller man, has a reach disadvantage, is slower than Floyd and has a fairly open defence as shown by Berto closing his eye in their fight.
Guerrero could only win this by stoppage for me and Mayweather has been in with much harder punchers and has never looked remotely like being stopped. He'd never get any decision on the cards unless he'd utterly dominated the fight which just won't happen.
Masterful display.

Completely agree. Can't see anyone pushing him close. Cotto gave it a go. Could Floyd-Broner happen? Possibly. Still fancy Floyd though.SteveDow wrote:Went exactly how I thought it would go really. Ward at 12 stone? If he wants to be classed alongside Hearns, Duran, Leonard, Jones, Armstrong, etc then why not? To be a true all time great he needs to do great things. Alvarez, Martinez, Golovokin, Ward. At the moment, he will be remembered for the fights that did not happen.

Dominating from sfw to lmw isn't enough?

Re: Predictions then for Floyd/Guerrero?
How has Floyd 'dominated' at welter or light-middle? The razor thin decision over a 35 year old semi-retired ODLH was hardly dominating a division, and at welter the steering clear of Pacman disqualifies him for any consideration of being a dominant champion.
Still, a very effective, boring performance by Floyd. I really thought Guerrero would continue the work a shopworn Cotto put in but he didn't, because of Floyd. A good win.

Re: Predictions then for Floyd/Guerrero?
That would be a step too far for Floyd. Ward is simply too big and also has elite level skills. I would make a fight between Floyd and Sergio Martinez however and would fancy Floyd to win that on points.mickey1975 wrote:Ward at 12 stone? Thats not fair, your naming middle and super middles, don't forget where Floyd started, even if he fought canelo it would be at catchweight, apart from pacman who hasn't he fought ?mickey1975 wrote:Ward at 12 stone? Re: Predictions then for Floyd/Guerrero?
Funny how people mention a shopworn 35 year old De la Hoya to take credit away from Floyds victory but Pacquiao drags de la hoya down to a skeletal state and it was an amazing victory. Lol
Floyd should see out his career at welter in my opinion, light middle if carefully matched. If anyone wants to fight him then they can make his weight instead of him giving away advantages.
I dont see anyone asking Ward to move up and fight Klitschko. Lol

You serious?! He's nowhere near big enough to fight at 12 stone! If you see the guy in person he's tiny!mickey1975 wrote:Ward at 12 stone? Re: Predictions then for Floyd/Guerrero?
I still think pacquiaos win against de la hoya was a good victory for him but just think anybodys record can be torn to pieces if people look into them too much.
Mayweather has already moved through so many weights and now people are mentioning him fighting at 12 stone. Its just ridiculous.

Re: Predictions then for Floyd/Guerrero?
The fight went pretty much as i thought, only i expected Mayweather to let his hands go more. Age is getting to him.
At middleweight Alvarez is the man to beat him, though i expect Mayweather to avoid him like the plague, the fight will never happen. A good fight for Mayweather would be Martinez, he's very much on the slide IMO and is there to be beaten. Again though i don't see Mayweather taking this fight. His track record is a proven one, he's far more likely to go after lesser welter's like Alexander, at a stretch maybe Bradley, but the front runner for his next multi-million dollar public sparring session is Garcia (if he keeps winning).

Re: Predictions then for Floyd/Guerrero?
Before seeing Canelo v Trout i thought Canelo was the man to beat Mayweather but that fight changed my opinion.
I know Canelo obviously won the fight but at times he was just plodding after trout, struggling to cut the ring down and get to him. Didnt look like he had much of a plan B. I agree that he won the fight although the judges scorecards were a joke but I seen enough in that fight to convince myself that mayweather would school him and cruise to a wide UD.

Re: Predictions then for Floyd/Guerrero?
He hasn't, but a large part of that isn't his fault. What I mean by that is that he's been competing in an era where he hasn't had a Hearns, a Duran or a Leonard to really prove his greatness in the all time stakes. He can't be held accountable for that, but nevertheless it creates ambiguities about his legacy.Ratchet Exits Nu wrote:17 years at the very top means he has proved all he needs to.mickey1975 wrote:Ward at 12 stone? Duran's peak was at Lightweight. I know its a big ask but I mean if he wants to be compared to the true ATG's.columbo wrote:You serious?! He's nowhere near big enough to fight at 12 stone! I am not saying he wouldn't or isn't, just he cant be considered an ATG.Dead Mouse wrote:Mayweather would beat both Canelo and Martinez. He isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it would be daft to deny that he's far and away the best fighter in the world, his nearest rival finished his last fight face down on the canvas and was given a pass due to age, Mayweather's aging himself yet he hasn't found himself in the same position. Martinez is a good fighter and a relatively big unit, but he wouldn't have handled Mayweather a year or two ago, let alone now.

Among many others, Kostya Tszyu, a peak Cotto, peak Mosely and a few more... But the Pacman non event will be the one that could have defined him.jessi wrote:Thats not fair, your naming middle and super middles, don't forget where Floyd started, even if he fought canelo it would be at catchweight, apart from pacman who hasn't he fought ?mickey1975 wrote:Ward at 12 stone? Re: Predictions then for Floyd/Guerrero?
Fair point and purely my personal opinion, but beating Pac at Welter wouldn't have left me more inclined to rate Mayweather any higher in the GOAT stakes, whereas a Hearns-type figure would have benchmarked him.ALI wrote:Deserter wrote:He hasn't, but a large part of that isn't his fault. Re: Predictions then for Floyd/Guerrero?
I thought the reason he didn't fight Manny Pac was because Manny wouldn't take tests. I know it's not for Mayweather to mandate these things but the ball was in Pacman's court on that one.
Absolutely stupid that they didn't fight but for my money, Floyd would probably have found a way to win.
He'll turn out some good boxers as a trainer once he hangs 'em up. He'll fight on until he's at least 40 I bet.

Yeah he wants to do what SRL did and handicap fighters by making them weigh well under what they should do when fighting bigger guys.mickey1975 wrote:Duran's peak was at Lightweight.
