What's happening with John Murray?

Post by Finch »

Hasn't fought for 18 months or so nor has anything lined up?

Surely he still has some more paydays in him and domestic titles?

Murray was a good fighter but should of stayed in the comfort zone of Hennessy Sports. If he stayed with meaty mick he could of got an easier opponent for a world title or a bumper pay day against Marquez.

As for Murray future i think he was due to fight gavin rees last year but failed a brain scan or something

Easier opponent for a world title? He fought Kevin Mitchell and lost to Kevin Mitchell who in turn lost to Katsidis who himself was never quite good enough to win a world title! He won interim belts but not the full strap. Murray just wasnt good enough at world level. He was a good european level fighter but thats it.

What's wrong with him being just a good euro level fighter. And who says he can't give Burns a hard night? No announcement he's retired yet. Rees fighting Colla next I think.

I didnt say there was anything wrong with it. I was just challenging that guys statement that he should of fought an easier opponent for a world title. I dont know who he could of fought that he would of been able to beat, thats all.

JUST EUROPEAN level,my god lads like my self and many many other ex pros would of given there left/right arm to be JUST European level i think many of the so called boxing experts on this forum need to understand that boxing is all about levels but maybe John Murray is/was happy with JUST European level.I for one believe Murray has peaked at European level and for that can be truely happy.

I'd like to see him fight again, he was always good value. Fight against either Rees or Crolla would be good

Good luck to him. I honestly thought after reading about the standing ovation he got in a fight in Tampa ( was it on the undercard of lacy vs. Reid?) and when I saw him in Vegas that he would win a world title. Looked very classy.

Hopefully he'll come again.

I saw him struggle with Al Hamidi a few years back in nottingham and it was obvious at world level his lack of lateral movement would catch up with him. He's a quality fighter and as stated above it is all about levels hopefully he can come again and get a European and commonwealth strap and maybe one more try at a world title but it's a big ask.

He's been cleared to box again, could be some good fights out there for him, Crolla, Rees, rematch with Mitchell
