No i can understand your point of view to be fair. I didnt mean to defend him blowing the money, i just think its sad that a guy that has made that amount of money has some how managed to completely piss it up the wall and is now living in a condo! Its more the fact that he's in his 50's and still having to fight because of that, that I find sad.warriorbox wrote:Sorry not me. The final auction showed 2 nice motors, with a final auction price of over $30k, that doesn't include the cars he sold whilst trying to meet payments. There was also thousands of dollars worth of jewellery, expensive furniture, etc., etc. From what I've seen he was taken to court to pay for his kids because he wasn't actually paying anything.
Far be it from me to tell someone how to spend or invest their money, but I won't feel bad for someone that blows the kind of money he has through frivolous spending.

Sorry not a popular view I know, but I find it annoying we are led to feel sorry for these multi-millionaires who have lost the lot, sportsman or not.

Actually the funniest thing about that auction is someone paid nearly $9000 dollars for the F'ing WBF World Title Belt! Would have been cheaper to buy one from Mick Croucher then fly to wherever Evander is and ask him to sign it. In a few years there will be another auction for another bankrupt fool where that belt will be one of the items. Fools and their money.
Re: EVANDER HOLYFIELDS 'Where/how the money went'..
For $9,000, you could probably get the WBF to set you up a title fight against a ringer who would take a dive, and you could be champ yourself!
Re: EVANDER HOLYFIELDS 'Where/how the money went'..
I'm sorry but that article is the most ridiculous thing Ive read in a long time. Id love to know what this "steroid drink" is that makes you instantly have more energy, or "steroid cream" that has an instant effect?! And makes your eyes burn?!!! Absolutley ridiculous.warriorbox wrote:Why? Because anyone dares mention the fact that a man who has earned so much in a quarter of a lifetime has spent more than you should in 5-10 lifetimes? It's alright him blaming other people, and this article is obviously supposed to be pro-Holyfield, but get real, his name has been linked to PEDs too many times, with constant denials from Holyfield himself, for me to think he is Mr Honesty with these stories, not to mention rumours of domestic abuse.Ratchet Exits Nu wrote:This.loaded_gloves wrote:So far it sounds like not one single one of you has actually read the interview.
He obviously isn't flat broke, and likely never will be, so good luck to him, but I'm not going to feel sorry for him.
And I like Holyfield the boxer.

I have used steriod cream. It is quality.
Any muppet who wastes as much money as holyfield has done is a damn fool. Simple as. There is no excuse at all. None.
Why have 17 bathrooms? Surely two or four is enough? You can`t shat in more than one at once anyhow.

Really? What a self indulgent, irresponsible man and a hypocrite. And also, to all those taking Holy's side; ask anyone involved in the business about his extensive PED abuse, in other words cheating in a life threatening sport. Yes, Evander has a terrific will to win and courage beyond call of duty, but that doesn't mean he isn't a bad personShadrachSimmo wrote:6 mothers and 12 children are gonna rape you for cash no matter who you are. That was a tabloid-like online article, from the same website that brought us 'Evander Holyfield has balls the size of peanuts' as a serious news story.
It's amazing that such a tawdry and disreputable article has lingered on so long, given what happened in reality to Shane Mosley, Roy Jones, James Toney, Frans Botha, Sam Soliman etc etc etc.

I can't help but think you are a bit blinded by your admiration of what a warrior Holyfield was in the ring. As far as I'm concerned Holyfields name being linked to those two pharmacies and his insistence he will 'run his own investigation and clear his name' but never actually doing so, is proof enough for me. Too many stories over too many years for it to have no truth at all.

Too man y stories but no real investigation by anyone, this was not a BALCO type thing, its all hearsay and no governing body has enforced any ban suspension for drug offences.

Sad how professional athletes / sportspeople can cheat the drug testing. Lance Armstrong comes to mind. It's hearsay if you are choosing not to believe it but those that run the pharmacies are now doing hard time, and Holyfields name was directly linked to their operation.Ratchet Exits Nu wrote:warriorbox wrote:I can't help but think you are a bit blinded by your admiration of what a warrior Holyfield was in the ring. Whatever. You can put your head in the sand if you want. I bet you thought Roy jones, Shane Mosley, Fermando Vargas were clean until they got caught. Testing is awful in pro boxing, money means nobody actually wants the boxers to test guilty. Lance Armstrong competed in one of the most rigorously tested sports as did Ben Johnson, yet they passed hundreds of testsloaded_gloves wrote:Ask anyone involved in the business? I saw Holyfield on Saturday afternoon walking around the MGM Grand eating a McDonalds while chatting on his phone. I was surprised I am taller than him (I'm 6ft 3).
Not all that relevant to this thread. Except the McDonalds bit possibly.

To think of the coin that has passed through the hands of Tyson and Holyfield!
It makes you realise just how switched on Gene Tunney was back in the day but moreso the ATG Harry Wills. He died a wealthy man yet was a black boxer throughout the 1920's with no formal education. As amazing outside the ring as he was in it!![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)

Re: EVANDER HOLYFIELDS 'Where/how the money went'..
This is tragic. Last time I saw Holyfield was in Mexico a couple of years ago. He was speaking to loads of promoters about coming back. The impression I got was that he was over-estimating his box office value at this late stage. I saw him sparring before he boxed James Toney at the Mandalay Bay and lumped on Toney because of how much EH seemed to have deteriorated. He would have nothing left now so I hope he calls it quits soon!

I remember seeing the cameras going into Holyfield's home on TV/ maybe even the Boxing News. It was massive and marble everywhere - quite the picture of success story. This sounds like the self-same property. There's probably a very good lesson to be learned in there for everybody about living within your means.

If Holyfield had just paid off his mortgage with one of his fights then he would be ok.
Some scummy financial advisor told him to use a scheme to pay off the loan and keep his capital, what he really meant was 'let me get a huge commission cheque every month and eff you, Holyfield!
I read it was a $12M home and Evander earned $64M in one a particular year.
Re: EVANDER HOLYFIELDS 'Where/how the money went'..
that sheds some light on it but it still smacks of if my aunty had balls she'd be my uncle....If he had used summa that 64mil to pay off his mortgage he'd have probably been done by the IRS for not paying his taxes.Ratchet Exits Nu wrote:NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:nice post, I might have to look this guy up...Ste Hawkins wrote:It makes you realise just how switched on Gene Tunney was back in the day but moreso the ATG Harry Wills. But yeah - that's what he should have done.
Burton's Menswear got me in the exact same way on a storecard when I was about 20. Same thing just the other end of the spectrum.....only went in for a shirt and walked out with 130quid's worth of gear, safe in the "knowledge" that I'd be straight down at the end of the month to pay that off
the TV people have a certain way of glossing over all the sh*t, they go round with there cameras like Holyfield is a God, nobody thinks to say "do you actually own this?".
