Boxing Nostalgia-What Brings You Back?

Post by jrc26 »

I watched Holmes-Shavers 1 not long ago-the entire network broadcast. I couldn't help but get that nostalgic feeling while watching a big fight on ABC with the original commercials and sports scores between rounds. It, not by coincidence, was the day of the overpriced Mayweather PPV. Hearing Howard come on the air gets me every time. It is still exciting.

What brings you guys back in time and wishing for the good days?

I'm sure one of these days 10 or 20 years from now, it'll bring a smile to my face to hear Jim Lampley, Larry Merchant and Emanuel Steward calling some of the classic HBO bouts. Jim, Larry and George were often amusing to me too.

I love boxing from the 60's & 70's but that was before my time. I started watching boxing in the 80's. Taped every Tyson fight on HBO. Seeing those old fights & hearing the calls by Tomkins, Sugar Ray & Merchant bring back great memories. Watching ESPN with Bernstein calling fights with Harold Brazier & Tony Thornton or USA network & Foreman's comeback was also a big part of the sport for me. Fights on the main networks!! Ahhh the good old days!
