Jamie McDonnell - Time for some recognition!
Jamie McDonnell - Time for some recognition!
Must say surely its time now for Jamie McDonnell to get some recognition from all circles, I feel he has been underrated for years now. I watched him as an amateur and in most of his pro fights and have banged on about him on here abit to over the last 4-5 years.
As a boxer he's massive for the weight and has strength, skill, balance and a lions heart. He's had 2 defeats in his career which both could of swung either way but he never complained, he just got back in the gym found a home with new trainers, who deserve huge amounts of credit (Dave Hulley & Stefy Bull) and moved swiftly up the rankings.
He hasn't had it easy, he's been in some great wars with Ian Napa, Stuey Hall, Stefane Jamoye & now Julio Ceja, but his willingness to take the tough fights have paid off, he's done it properly to going from English>British>Commonwealth>European and now to World Champion. I really hope he gets to fight for one of the other world belts to, would love to see him in a fight in Vegas or New York and would definitely be travelling across to support him.
Also on a side note, his twin brothers a decent boxer, I wouldn't be surprised to see him being mentioned with the likes of Scott Quigg and Carl Frampton in the next 12-18 months.

Re: Jamie McDonnell - Time for some recognition!
Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke, for me theirs nothing better than when a fighter does it the traditional route as well British, Commonwealth,European and world. Jamie his trainers and Hobson deserve all the credit in the world

His hand speed at times is blistering. Thought he did enough last night, seems to be a good listener. Hope he earns some big paydays.

People on east side boxing calling him a paper champion because he fought for a vacant title against a 20 year old I seriously can't understand why we can't get behind our world champions julio ceja was 8/13 before the fight and he doesn't do the rounds because he knocks people out easy enough

McDonnel could of beat Leo Santa Cruz for the title and you'd get some dick heads saying Santa Cruz was all hype you can't win with some people
Was Carl Froch a paper champion when he beat Pascal for the vacant WBC?

Yer some cracking fights for him I would love to see him fight in America that would be the icing on the cake al tell you something there's not many boxers out there that can turn it on after the 6th round like he does if your going to beat him your best chance is before the half way stagehandsofstone wrote:Agreed mate, the IBF is 1 of the better ones too, some big fights over the Pond to be made also, then up at Super Bantamweight is where the real stars aredhb-raging bull wrote:People on east side boxing calling him a paper champion because he fought for a vacant title against a 20 year old I seriously can't understand why we can't get behind our world champions julio ceja was 8/13 before the fight and he doesn't do the rounds because he knocks people out easy enough

Well done Jamie. I remember seeing him as an 18 year old in Doncaster in his gold shorts and he looked dazzling then!
Shame about the turnout though. I'd heard on local radio, just after the fight had been announced, that half of the tickets had sold - this can't have been true.

Re: Jamie McDonnell - Time for some recognition!
The talent in the Bantamweight divisions in South America and Asia, the Asians more often than not fight over there and the rest seem to fight in South America or the US but the ones that fight now and again in the States are usually 3rd down the bill at least, hopefully Dennis Hobson can persuade one of them to come over here to headline at the Keepmoat again surely they would be a lot better turn out for that one,Anselmo Moreno or Shinsuke Yamanaka or the likes
