The cavernous stadium and empty seats made it 'look' like it was poorly attended which was a shame on such a massive occasion especially when McD performed so well.

I agree :TU: the bout was very good and made local history; I am pleased it was a stadium event as it adds to the prestige of the occasion; I imagine that the crowd would have crammed into the Dome maybe; some good nutters therethough - very vocal with crazy paving teeth, a good show and Carl Spencer Jnr could do ok if he slims down a stone, he showed some good moves and abad haircut.

Did you go mate?

I thought the crowd was spread around too much, the gap between VIP, ringside and the arena seats was bizarre and just made the atmosphere a bit sterile, it was colder than a witch's tit too. Fair play to the fans though, they made a lot of noise.

Steffy, don't take this as a criticism as I know you're not involved in the promotion, but it wasn't well organised at all. I think the wisest decision other than getting Jamie home advantage was the arena refusing to have a free bar for VIPs.

You had the usual shambolic organisation (or lack of) when it came to seating. I think I counted I got moved six times with a ticket that said "unreserved". I was also told by a couple of business owners that the promoter was still dicking about putting posters up only four days from the fight. It wasn't particularly well promoted locally for the average/casual fan. No SKY won't have helped but still, Doncaster's a big town and should have got a bigger crowd for fight like that.

Great fight, the team got him in great shape, he couldn't have done those last 3 rounds without the conditioning he's done. He also fought a smart fight, and really dug in those last few rounds when they were both tired. He got caught with a cracking punch in the 11th, I think it was and did well to ride it out.

Yeah, they were both understandably tired late on but you could tell the Mexican was feeling the pace more, although he was a machine, still throwing huge hooks.

I think we'll be seeing Ceja again.

what next for mcdonnell?

does ceja have a rematch clause?

i'm really hoping for plenty of title defenses in doncaster.

also, will jamie need to get some big names - there are a few round bantam/super fly (narvaez, darchinyan, moreno, kameda)? put himself up there, maximise earnings, etc etc...

congrats to hobson, who took clinton woods to the IBF title up at 175, too.

shame about the mail & the AP "controversial" report.

It will be interesting to see who Jamie fights next because Stuey Hall also won his fight on the undercard and I know he is very eager to keep the momentum going as well, rematch between the two down the line? :TU:

Suspect so, Hall won some IBF bauble so I'd imagine he'll catapult up the IBF rankings now.

I'd imagine Ceja's camp will lobby for a rematch given the ridiculous 118-110 score and how unhappy they were but not sure how willing the IBF will be.

Well im sure Ceja was a mandatory as well as McDonnell, maybe not but if he was he probably wont have a leg to stand on as far as a rematch is concerned, god knows?
Just for the record i had it 117-111 McDonnell,i thought he boxed far better throughout, doesnt seem to be one of my better scorecards it appears

McDonnell was number 1 and Ceja number 3 (only the number 1 becomes a mandatory). The holder moved up to 122 (boxed on the UC of Floyd's fight on the Cinco de Mayo card and looked pretty good) so hence the vacant title and box-off.

Malinga is actually their number 2, so I guess that means he's now their number 1 and Ceja is their number 2 when they refresh the rankings. Malinga already lost to Santa Cruz and fought the other month which is why I'm guessing he was out of the running for this.

The new holder will have to make a mandatory within the next 12 months (maybe 15 as the last mandatory was Dec '12) and will more than likely be entitled to a voluntary, so Hall may get his rematch (depending on his ranking, you'd logically expect him to be their number five or four now, seeing as he beat Perales), or maybe Jamoye as he's in their top five.

I rate hall and he's as tough as nails but I don't think he warrants a world title shot yet Jamie had to work hard to get his shot he won the British title twice the commonwealth title and European title defending it multiple times then won an eliminator he also beat Jamoye and hall on the way to his shot I think Jamoye is more worthy of a rematch at this moment in time I think Jamoye vs hall should face off would be a cracker that

How far do you think he can go? I agree, he has some love handles. Fights a bit like a poor mans Tyson Fury imo.

Would make sense to have it as chief support on the UC of Jamie's first defence?
