What you talking about ,you dont know shit Calzaghe was still an underdog when he faced a very game former world champion for former champions vacated title .
BTW Eubank was in training for a title fight at 175 when the call for a Calzaghe's fight came up.
Unfair criticism aimed at Cleverly here IMO. His level of opponents are decided by his manager/promoter, matchmaker & the TV companies input has to who they will show. Non of which are down to Cleverly, all he can do is exactly what he has been doing, and that's beating who they put in front of him. Cleverly is a very nice, polite guy, and a very good boxer IMO

He is a 'world champ' who seems to be content fighting bums. I don't care who matches him, he seems perfectly content to remain untested. Thats what bothers me, he shows no ambition whatsoever.

How do you know he doesn't care ? Or doesn't show ambition ? Do you know him personally or been in camp with him & his team & seen how frustrated they are ? No you haven't. He does care but politics in this sport are massive and his hands are tied, I know it's frustrating for fans but lets be honest he has faced better opposition than a lot of other household names that I won't mention, both world champions & world title contenders.

So then it doesn't show ambition does it? To be bothered in private but carry on progressing nowhere publicly is criminal. Boxing personalities sell fights and to some extent makes a career, he isn't doing a great job. Bunnys stable isn't exactly stacked, surely Clev being one of his highest profile fighters has some input, or at least the ear, of his promoter - if he wanted it.
Nothing against the guy as a person like, he seems a nice lad.
I don't mind Cleverly at all. I just don't like the way he became and still remains champion. The WBO edited their October 2012 rankings to put Shawn Hawk in at #15. So Cleverly could defend his paper title against him.
Shawn Hawk wasn't in WBO's Light Heavyweight rankings before October 2012. In fact, Shawn Hawk's last fight before he faught Cleverly in October 2012. Was back in June 2012 against Eleider Alvarez. Who was ranked #13 in WBO's Light Heavyweight division at the time.
So Shawn Hawk, coming off a UD loss. To a guy who was only ranked at #13 at the time. Earned Shawn Hawk the #15 spot 4 moths later?
It's things like that which makes Cleverly and more so his title (WBO) look like a joke.

Calzaghe was not the underdog against Eubank.
Eubank was training for a title fight at Light Heavy when the call for a Calzaghe fight came up on very short notice - that I feel supports the notion that he might have been weight drained. He was certainly ring rusty.
Twice Calzaghe has been underdog in his career - against Mark Delaney (bizzarely) and against Lacy.

Thing is, this is not hate. He is fit, throws a lot of punches, has bottle to burn, decent speed. His defense, his accuracy is questionable. He is portrayed as some kind of boxer but what he is, is a fast handed, busy swarmer type. He can be outboxed and relies on his fitness to pull him through (which is not a bad thing). His trust in Bunny, who displays a complete lack of ambition and merely focuses on saftey first defences against poor opponents, is what frustrates me, as a fan.
The guy has some ability. No, he would not be a world champ under normal circumstances but he has not improved since his Brtish / Euro days. Its about about perception and spin on behalf of his manager. Milk him for what he can, they both earn, minimal risk and sod the rest. Thing is, I know W@rren doesn't give a f*** but I genuinely thought Cleverley wanted more than that. He either believes what W@rren tells him re: trying to make all these fights but they all 'dont want to know' or he is happy with his lot and will continue on this road. Whichever way you slice it, he is wasting his career away.
I do sort of agree with this. I like Cleverly and he is good, but he’s not improving…that’s the worrying thing. He looked so good early in his career and the progression hasn’t happened.
Volume punching swarmers are hard to beat, especially if they add some defensive moves in there. But to perfect those moves you need to be testing yourself. and As he gets older that fitness advantage will recede.
He could do with fighting every 3 months for the next 3 years.

Why would BN be ruined if Nathan lost? I can't imagine subscribers cancelling in their droves if he moved. I for one watched Channel Five and Sky during Clev's last defence and I am "hardcore". Bellew is the only fight he has been in that have been interested in watching.
I caught a bit of his last fight, It was pretty tedious and that's being kind. I switched off over after 2 or 3 rounds.
You know, I thought he'd have seriously thrown his name into the hat when Lucian Bute withdrew from the Jean Pascal fight.
Perhaps he has Jurgen Braehmer waiting, who is an old man nowadays and whilst still decent, is no longer what he was originally and wont mean much to the casual or American fans.
I used to tune in for all of his fights on Sky, but Bellew aside, it's been pretty dross since. And i dont think the people he has faced bring out the best in him either.
You kind of get the impression that despite Cleverly no longer being a full-time undergraduate, that he's plateaued somewhat. He seems to be outwork your classic, orthodox style Europeans, but could well be exposed by someone a decent punch and a less predictable style. He basically boxes like a less accurate and polished version of Joe Calzaghe.
