nelson ruined it again -gloves off sm show
What can i say. A once in a lifetime opportunity missed.jones jnr, collins, the ever entertaining eubanks, calzaghe and woodhall the voice of reason alongside the charasmatic collins. The first fifteen minutes when eubanks expertly probed collins about his not fighting calzaghe were tv heaven especially as nelson kept his mouth shut. But ultimately the rest of the show was ruined first by nelson more tv wanker thsn anchor stopping the collins -eubanks "debate" from going on and by his asking some incredibely patronising silly and pathetic questions like
Chris after filling stadiums stadiums with benn did u think u could do it again in the future??!wtf
Richie were u envious of the others? Wtf x 2
Why didn't they get paul dempsey or gary newbon or jim rosenthal to air a special of this magnitude?
And make it 2 hours and had benn watson and reid there?
I felt sad tho seeing seeing roy jones be disrespected truth be told he was levels and levels above the others. 15 years undefeated. Super roy 50-0 really.superior to mayweather mayweatherthsn at age 35 he became an imposter
Eubanjs was super humble truth is thetwo collins fights should have been 1-1.super close

I hope it gets put on Youtube so we can see it and I think Paul Dempsey would have been a good shout especially after the grilling he was giving David Haye .
Re: nelson ruined it again -gloves off sm show
The late nite around a table with studio blacked outvwas a greatvlook on hd.
Still worth watching forvthe first half despite nelson

Re: nelson ruined it again -gloves off sm show
They should have done a quick 25 second boxing highlight video for each boxer when theyvwere introduced tho to give cyounger fans an idea of the aura of incivibility around jones jnrcand eubanks in thrir primes and to show them in their primes.cheapskate sky skythey hold the rights too
Eubanks was like 42-0 and o and people hated him wanted him to lose so much whatca contrast now to the humble man.
Also calzaghecescaped a grilling that arguably he beat a shot eubanks and jones and lost to hopkins

Re: nelson ruined it again -gloves off sm show
Thought it was great last night. Eubank, whilst wanting to be the constant voice, was actually quite refreshing; was happy to be one of the best and didn't want to fight the yanks and get beat. He also kept giving Collins stick which was rather amusing.
How can you give Calzaghe a grilling for beating Eubank? The young up and comer beating the old timer in his first world title fight? Sounds like common practice. As for Hopkins, well look what he's done since!

Collins made me laugh when Woodhall and Calzaghe were on about fighting as friends, in the corner of the screen Steve smirked and said "I once fought my classmate"! He came across as a very hard man.

Re: nelson ruined it again -gloves off sm show
I for one have no complaints about Nelson nor the show. It's a great advert for boxing, the calmness, humility and respect shown by the best warriors in the game.
Nelson is getting better IMO and I think having a presenter who climbed through the ropes himself outweighs some of his lack of experience in TV work.
I'm looking forward to a few more. a HW one with Tyson, holyfield, Bruno,Kltschko & Lewis maybe?

Re: nelson ruined it again -gloves off sm show
There was absolutely nothing wrong with Johnny on this show.
Re: nelson ruined it again -gloves off sm show
only saw the taster, but for me ,nelson is an excellent , knowledgable , and charismatic presenter. he should get better and better with experience too.
Re: nelson ruined it again -gloves off sm show
As good as it was, I found the whole thing a little weird to watch.
You had eubank who kept asking Collins why he wouldn't fight calzage.
Collins changing his story along the way, and trying to make a fight with jones.
Calzage not really saying much apart from I would of beat froch ( what's he supposed to say )
Roy jones jnr was to respectful to say he would of whipped calzage in his day !
And richie Woodhall great to listen to as always but I felt he was there to make up the numbers..
In 10 years time it could be...
Ward
Froch
Kessler
Groves

Re: nelson ruined it again -gloves off sm show
I've got to say that I enjoyed the show immensely and thought Johnny Nelson was excellent on it.
Johnny, being a former fighter and champion, commands the respect of the other fighters at the table in a way that Dempsey, Adam Smith, Ian Darke, Newbon (who I can't stand!) and Rosenthal never will be able to. He's perfect for the role and very knowledgeable.
Collins added a bit of spice with his rivalry against Roy, Chris and Joe. I'm surprised he didn't offer to fight the whole lot of them! Richie brought a bit of perspective to the table in what turned out to be a very good mix of view points and rivalries.
I do still think Joe has a bit of burning in him at 41 but don't think he'll be back in the ring again, his 46-0 was well mentioned. However, his claims that he could beat Froch and Ward must make a few promoters think, I wonder how much it would cost... I bet I'm not alone in saying, I'd pay double the cost of Froch-Kessler for Froch-Calzaghe.

Re: nelson ruined it again -gloves off sm show
I am a harsh critic of Nelson as a pundit, but he was excellent last night in this kind of format, some people cry for the sake of crying.

Who called Nelson charismatic!?
he has the charisma of a potato.
Re: nelson ruined it again -gloves off sm show
A heavyweight legends one would be the obvious - maybe in the next 12/18 months before a Haye world title fight on Sky.
Bruno, Holyfield, Tyson and Lewis. Massive names from home and abroad, all from pretty much the same era, all fought each other with the exception of Bruno-Holyfield, all got some serious stories to tell, and all get on OK with each other whilst having enough of a friendly rivalry to make things potentially interesting.
I've not seen the SM one yet, but I actually think the 'dream' group for that would be Watson, Eubank, Benn and Collins. Jones Jr, whilst a huge name, is a bit 'out of it' from that group and Calzaghe a bit young.

Of current heavyweights, Haye, Chisora, Price and Fury would make a spicy quartet - although I fear it could only end in disaster and licence revocation!

Haha - That could be a class show if you stick Lennox Lewis in the middle of it!Jack B wrote:Of current heavyweights, Haye, Chisora, Price and Fury would make a spicy quartet - although I fear it could only end in disaster and licence revocation!
Speaking of heavyweights, a decent domestic one could be -
Danny Williams
Michael Sprott
Matt Skelton
Audley Harrison
Julius Francis
Martin Rogan
Mostly fought each other so must have a few stories to tell and some raw scars still itching. A bit of needle makes for great viewing.

You would need serious security for Schaeffer and Arum to be in the same room together, let alone sitting at the table.G0mez wrote:
