Calzaghe vs Ward - Who wins?
Calzaghe vs Ward - Who wins?
Tough one to call! Going to stay loyal and say Calzaghe! I think he would find a way some how. Something tells me it wouldn't be a great fight to watch but I guess we will never know.

I agree with this, although if Froch beats Kessler I wouldn't be at all surprised if Calzaghe made a comeback for a Froch fight, the money on the table would be huge, football staidium, Sky Box Office, US TV, etc. Depends how much interest he has left in the sport, not much going on recent interviews I've seen, but money could easily change that.TopGun wrote:Tough one to call! Super Joe on punches landed. Don't think it would be particularly great to watch tbh - id rather have seen Joe vs a younger RJJr

Joe won't come out of retirement, he's been retired for years now and he's 42 years old.warriorbox wrote:I agree with this, although if Froch beats Kessler I wouldn't be at all surprised if Calzaghe made a comeback for a Froch fight, the money on the table would be huge, football staidium, Sky Box Office, US TV, etc. Depends how much interest he has left in the sport, not much going on recent interviews I've seen, but money could easily change that.TopGun wrote:Tough one to call! Stranger things have happened and I reckon Joe reckons he has Froch's number (i happen to think so too). Joe loves the £££'s and I cannot imagine he is earning much on the celeb circuit. He would make an easy million + fighting Froch so I guess it may happen. That would be huge!!

Re: Calzaghe vs Ward - Who wins?
I think he'd make 3 or 4 times that for a Froch fight, if Froch beats Kessler. Even at 42 he won't have lost his love for the big paydays.TopGun wrote:Stranger things have happened and I reckon Joe reckons he has Froch's number (i happen to think so too). Re: Calzaghe vs Ward - Who wins?
Would anyone want to return at 42, having been retired for 5 years and fight a physical beast like Froch?
Agree Joe would have boxed his ears off before he called it a day but that is one tough assignment for anybody with all that stacked against you.

I think that any man who has gone from million pound paydays, to earning a few quid here and there on the celeb circuit would be hard pressed to not seriously consider the money that would be on offer for this fight. Not saying it would happen, saying I wouldn't be at all surprised if it did.youngrell wrote:Would anyone want to return at 42, having been retired for 5 years and fight a physical beast like Froch?

Re: Calzaghe vs Ward - Who wins?
If Calzaghe retuend now, after 5 years of possible boozing and laziness, I could see an animal like Froch knocking him clean out
Re: Calzaghe vs Ward - Who wins?
The same love of the big paydays that saw him actively seek out the best fighters for the biggest fights during his career?warriorbox wrote:I think he'd make 3 or 4 times that for a Froch fight, if Froch beats Kessler. I find a Calzaghe v Ward fight almost impossible to predict. The closest Calzaghe fought to Ward was a past his prime Hopkins when Joe himself was also passed his prime. Has Ward fought anyone like Calzaghe? Not sure he has
Re: Calzaghe vs Ward - Who wins?
waht hopkins and Kessler have done since calzaghe beat them has done wonders to show how good calzaghe was,
Everyones always looking for a new Supersatr and Ward as good as hes looked has alot still to do and hopefully will be in some more big fights.
i would pick Calzaghe to win this mythical Bout

Re: Calzaghe vs Ward - Who wins?
Isn't Joe only 41? Not that it matters!
Judging by last night's 'gloves are off show' I think Joe still has a fight in him. He seemed to mention himself in the now and not the past like the others.
I think the figures mentioned here of a couple of million are way off.
If Eddie could stump up 10+ million, 60/40% split to Joe possibly 65% as we know Froch would be salivating at the chance of meeting him, it would be a massive amount of money to turn down.
50,000 sell out arena at £50 a pop = £2.5 million
800K+ PPV sales at £19.95 a pop = £16 million
I remember reading Haye v Valuev and Haye v Harrison doing around 800k buys on PPV, could be wrong on that and might only be around 500k at most. Surely, Froch v Calzaghe would break that. Only estimates and excitement I know but the money is surely there if Joe wants it.
Yes, Joe is sealed in boxing history but if he came back and beat Froch, then wow, dream fight...

Re: Calzaghe vs Ward - Who wins?
Calzaghe said once he would come back for £10 mil but realistically could he step in at that level against froch or ward without a couple of warm up fights?
Re: Calzaghe vs Ward - Who wins?
I'd probably favour Ward, on points.
Re: Calzaghe vs Ward - Who wins?
Andrew Ward for me. Much slicker fighter than Calzaghe and better ring craft.
Kessler pushed Calzaghe hard. I think Ward handled Kessler with much more ease.

Re: Calzaghe vs Ward - Who wins?
You could look at Ricky Hatton as an example of needing a fight or two, even at fringe world level such as Senchenko, nevermind Froch.Finn wrote:Calzaghe said once he would come back for £10 mil but realistically could he step in at that level against froch or ward without a couple of warm up fights?
Realistically, Joe would need a good eight months to prepare, possibly longer if he's been out the gym a fair bit and any warm up fight, well, it'd be a massive event in itself. I don't think he'd go down that route should everything come together and the fight be made.
It's a tough ask but it must play on Calzaghe's mind, especially lately as Carl Froch's stock continues to rise and the two are inevitably compared.

Your a fcuking idiot , when Calzaghe fought Kessler he was an unbeaten champion ,when Ward fought him he adopted the Calzaghe blue print and used 13 unanswered head buts to beat Kessler .liamlion wrote:Andrew Ward for me. Much slicker fighter than Calzaghe and better ring craft.
Kessler pushed Calzaghe hard. I think Ward handled Kessler with much more ease.
Joe beat him without the use of the head and fair and square..Ward never.

With a response like that, you are clearly the only fcuking idiot here.mrpedigree wrote:Your a fcuking idiot , when Calzaghe fought Kessler he was an unbeaten champion ,when Ward fought him he adopted the Calzaghe blue print and used 13 unanswered head buts to beat Kessler .liamlion wrote:Andrew Ward for me. Re: Calzaghe vs Ward - Who wins?
Sometimes I wonder if folk actually watch boxing. The slickest fighter Calzaghe took on was 200 year old Bernard Hopkins and he arguably lost. Ward would've beat Calzaghe with ease.

I wouldn't say that but he definatley won clear. I'm a massive Hopkins fan but there is no way he won that fightdesperados wrote:Trojans44 wrote:The slickest fighter Calzaghe took on was 200 year old Bernard Hopkins and he arguably lost.
he took Hopkins to school.
