Ricky Burns won the lottery last night ! WOW .
Re: Ricky Burns won the lottery last night ! WOW .
Another weird thing... I've watched hundreds of football games where the team with the most shots or most possession loses. The pundits call it taking your chances...
Fair play to Gonzalez, he carved out those chances and still lost.
Ricky didn't fold physically or mentally...many others would have...including Gonzalez...

So let me get this right , you dont think that the 7 round one sided beating he put on burns shouldn't earn him an instant rematch ? are you crazy ? are you not a fight fan ? don't you wanna see how Burns reacts to facing that up hill test again ?Dead Mouse wrote:Yes, Burns should fight the guy who just quit in the biggest fight of his life. Gonzalez needs to get himself back into contention.mrpedigree wrote:The Bottom line was the more skilled man on the night bizarrely gave that title fight away,it was nothing that Burns did that helped him keep that title, the only way burns could of won that fight was if the other man gave up or got injured, witch is what happened .billy nelson wrote:When Ricky lent on him and heis Knesset hit the floor, notice how slow hews getting up on his feet,he was very very tired and Ricky still had fuel in the tank
If the Burns camp is that sure of their guy why not an immediate rematch and prove the critics wrong ?..i am sure all us fans would love to see Burns get revenge![]()
The only way Burns beats Gonzalez in a rematch is if Gonzalez gives up or gets injured again..to risky a rematch ??
How the f*ck do you get revenge for a win? What will the tagline be, Revenge is a dish best served...actually this isn't revenge, that's the last time I take advice from The Internet. What will Burns say at the presser? "I will avenge my win!" People will think he's lost his marbles.
Come on mate whats wrong with you,its this type of opponent dodging thats hurt boxing.
People hate on the UFC but if a contender in the UFC was beating on a UFC champ as easy/one sided as that and he had to pull out because of injury near the end , the UFC and their fans would demand a rematch ...there would be a hue n cry .
Thats HOW IT SHOULD BE IN BOXING TO !
Lets Burns fight him asap and see if he can adjust ,rather than make him fight some other opponents and hope he gets beat so Burns don't have to face him again....THats BS.

Yeah im in agreement that he doesnt deserve rematch, you might only get 1 shot and youve got to take it with both fists,Jose Gonzalez has to live with his decision for the rest of his life, now that he,s got his breath back can he really be content that he COULDNT continue to see out those final 9 minutes,if he has broken his wrist i have no doubt that it was very painful but..............
Jose Gonzalez has the boxing ability to get back into world title contension again but has Ricky Burns ripped something away from him that can NEVER be replaced,we shall see
moving slightly from that topic i would love to see Gonzalez in with Adrien Broner,iv no doubt Broner would win but it would be interesting to see Broner in with someone whos also very fast,i wonder if Broner would struggle to not only land but avoid Gonzalez punches,Gavin Rees isnt nearly as fast as Gonzalez and he had success landing in the early goings and you know Gonzalez wouldnt stay in the pocket as long as Rees

Gonzalez hit Burns with all he had and it didn't dent Ricky's will to win one bit. When Burns managed to come back after Gonsalez best he wilted big time. Ricky would have finished him off.
I think it was a combination of very good opponent and an off night from Ricky. fornicate the rematch onwards and upwards for Burns.
Re: Ricky Burns won the lottery last night ! WOW .
how can you possibly say that it was nothing burns did to keep his title? gonzalez used up all his energy in the first 7. burns paced himself for 12. if burns threw caution to wind and came out all guns blazing hagler hearns style , he might have got the ko in 1...but that wouldve been stupid, cos if he didnt get the ko , he wouldve been a sitting duck for the remainder of the fight. that is what gonzalez did( cos it wasnt an injury to his hand that took away the power from his legs) . he fought at a pace he couldnt maintain..and he paid the price. to say that burns did nothing to win the title is crap. he was in there taking the punishment, fighting back, and crucially , coming up to scratch at the begining of each round. gonzalez didnt want to know.mrpedigree wrote:The Bottom line was the more skilled man on the night bizarrely gave that title fight away,it was nothing that Burns did that helped him keep that title, the only way burns could of won that fight was if the other man gave up or got injured, witch is what happened .billy nelson wrote:When Ricky lent on him and heis Knesset hit the floor, notice how slow hews getting up on his feet,he was very very tired and Ricky still had fuel in the tank

when kell brook battered carson jones for the first six rounds before running out of steam...he didnt just quit on the stool. he ran, he held , he spoiled , and he gritted his teeth and took a leathering for the remainder of the fight...but he didnt quit. and he scraped the win, just. that is what champions need to do sometimes. if kell had quit , then carson would have won, and he would have deserved his win. its that simple.
Re: Ricky Burns won the lottery last night ! WOW .
I think people are way over rating Gonzalez performance. Ricky was poor, but had the conditioning. Gonzales was gassed after 7 rounds fighting at his own pace. He wasn't merely responding to Ricky's work, he was dictating it for large parts.
I know Gavin Rees is no puncher, but for the first 3 rounds against Broner he threw everything at him and it bounced off him. Broner would anhilate Gonzalez.
If Ricky would have applied the pressure properly, instead of lunging in and missing, not seemingly used to fighting against a smaller man with a bigger reach. If Ricky would have had the reflexes (or not been as rusty) to slip or parry Gonzales work making Gonzales fight at a higher pace.... Gonzales would have been spent after 3/4 rounds.
Broner would do that!

Is Champion not allowed an off night, and Ricky would of stopped Gonzalez if the guy hadn't quit.
Yes it wasn't his most impressive defence, but onward and upwards now and bring on a unification fight.

Why would you state revenge to a fighter who won?? Remember that Gonzales was the mandatory. He is long armed, hard hitting, awkward and fast boxer with little to no financial clout on the world scene (at present).billy nelson wrote:Revenge is something you chase if you have lost we didn't!mrpedigree wrote:The Bottom line was the more skilled man on the night bizarrely gave that title fight away,it was nothing that Burns did that helped him keep that title, the only way burns could of won that fight was if the other man gave up or got injured, witch is what happened .billy nelson wrote:When Ricky lent on him and heis Knesset hit the floor, notice how slow hews getting up on his feet,he was very very tired and Ricky still had fuel in the tank

Gonzales had his chance and blew it. Ricky had an off night by his standards but still broke the guy's spirit and IMO would have gone on to win every of the remaining rounds with desire and fitness taking over. No team on earth would then take their fighter back to the beaten fighter for "revenge".
Ricky should just go back to grafting, work on tightening a few things anf then chase the biggest names in the division. He's earned the right by taking out the mandatory as requested by the board.
Re: Ricky Burns won the lottery last night ! WOW .
Really? I dont believe that for one minute, he hardly hit Gonzalez even in the last few rounds, it proved what we suspected all along that when Ricky faced a skilled boxer and not a come forward brawler we would see him really challenged. All this talk of Broner etc is good and well but when your facing someone like that you need to go in with a decent chance. On that last showing Ricky wouldnt win a round against Broner in my opinion.Old bones Ian wrote:Is Champion not allowed an off night, and Ricky would of stopped Gonzalez if the guy hadn't quit.
In fact he needs to pick and choose his opponents carefully going forward otherwise he is going to come unstuck.
He also needs to stop worrying about what the crowd want to see, thats up to him and Billy to work on that together because he looked terrible technique wise as a result of trying to please the crowd this time.

Have you never made mistakes at work mate, the diffrence being Ricky has hundreds of thousands watching his mistakes. He was man enough to tell everyone he wasn't at his best but rest assured he will learn from his mistakes and they won't happen againHPI wrote:Really? Re: Ricky Burns won the lottery last night ! WOW .
I dont think you can criticise Ricky too much, he stuck to his guns on a difficult night and won the fight, this is why championship fights are over 12 rounds.
I have criticised Gonzales plenty already. If Title fights were over 3 rounds, Audley would prob be world champ.

exactly , jermain Taylor and Andre Direll were giving Froch nightmares
a wins what counts when your champ , it may make people less confident in your next fight but on to the next one

Ive no doubt and a lot of people see it as having a go, I think Ricky comes across really well and I wish him no ill feeling but it was a wake up call for the pair of you, one off night can make your world come crumbling down, you need to get him some top class sparring outside of the usual available UK fighters. Have you ever considered a trip over to the states or have you been over there that I was unaware of?billy nelson wrote:Have you never made mistakes at work mate, the diffrence being Ricky has hundreds of thousands watching his mistakes. He was man enough to tell everyone he wasn't at his best but rest assured he will learn from his mistakes and they won't happen againHPI wrote:Really? Invaluable the sparring youd get in the likes of NYC, Vegas and LA etc.
Re: Ricky Burns won the lottery last night ! WOW .
Jose fought a good fight for probably 7 rounds. But its a 12 round fight. So I don't know where all this "burns got lucky" is comming from. Thats like saying the pace maker in athletics would, have gone on to a world record. I dont think burns would be beat broner, however i wouldn't say he was exposed in this fight either. Had this fight had gone a round or more gonzales would have got stopped. No doubt in my mind.
And I agree with the comment above. Saying that one bad night can change a fighters world. :)
