You can say that he may not have the heart of a Gatti or a Jamie Moore, but to call him gutless is pathetic internet twattery of the lowest order.
Personally I agree with you but other boxers are calling him the same...Calzaghe, Kevin Mitchell and Paul Smith Jnr
TBH kettle meet pot. Mitchell made excuses for his losses, Smith couldn't cop it at fringe Euro level (then made excuses) and Calzaghe pulled out of that many fights with training injuries that he can hardly talk despite his achievements.

Tony Bellew said something like he had it a shut out to Burns...

Hmmm.
With the fullest of respect when Mitchell and Smith win a world title maybe they will be in a better position to pass judgement, don't hold your breath.

Has there been confirmation of Gonzalez arm injury? Was it broken?

From Bombers Twitter, not sure when he said it but was there ever a time in the fight where that was accurate...
Pretty much no. You could make an argument for Burns only being two rounds down after 9, but that would be the most very genrous of interpretations and it was noticeable that all three judges agreed on a three point lead.
Having said that, I did think at the time that Burns was going to pull it out - he was getting to Gonzales more and more consistently from the middle of the seventh and Gonzales looked like he was starting to blow up quite badly.

A fight is over 12 rounds and boxing someone to exhaustion and the point at which they can take no more is a legitimate way to win a fight. The scorecards at the time of a stoppage are only taken into account for technical decisions (injuries, etc) and not for when a fighter chooses not to continue. OK, so a guy saying "no more" is less satisfying a conclusion than him being sparked out and failing to stand by 10, but it is still a fully legitimate, fair and deserving way to win a fight. It's somewhat akin to Lewis v Vitali, where Vitali was up on the cards but Lewis was slicing his face apart and forcing a decision on a stoppage before the cards could be taken into account.

As for accusations of gutlessness towards Gonzales, I find it abhorrent that a bunch of beer swilling, keyboard junkies can question the fortitude of a man who steps off a plane into a crowd of 5,000 glaswegians screaming for their hero, proceeds to box him silly for 6 rounds, goes to war giving and taking some hefty shots in the 7th breaking his hand in the process, fights on for a couple more rounds in obvious pain and exhaustion before assessing that he has given all he has to give. One of the best posts this year. :salut:
So many internet heroes who have never fought but insult fighters, never refereed but insult refs and judges and probably give nothing back to the sport they claim to love.
By all means disagree or have strong opinions, hell even state your dislike of a fighter, but calling out a pro fighter for having no balls or spine such as the trolling towards Gonzales is cowardly and disrespectful. Walk a mile in his shoes.

it's easy to criticize a man's heart when your sitting on your ass. I don't believe for a second Jose was gassed, you can tell when a guy is gassed from a cardio perspective, he wasn't even breathing heavily between rounds 7/8 and 8/9 and he did so little in those rounds he would have recovered to an extent if he indeed was gassed.

It would be good to get an update, because i'm convinced the injury was the sole cause to him quitting. I don't buy the argument 'fight the last 1/4 of the fight against a world champion with 1 hand' nonsense - fighting with 2 hands is hard enough. I don't think for a second Vitali Klitschko regrets giving it up against Byrd, he mad a rationale decision that could have saved his career.

Loads of fighters have carried on with one hand or in some cases one good arm. Ali fought Norton with a jaw injury. Some fighters opt out, many stay in the fight.
For the purposes of a balanced argument, even Ali himself said after the fight that had he known it was broken he would never have fought on,
Quote - "Are you crazy?! Me fight on knowing I had a broken jaw! And him keeping on hitting on it! Man, you crazy."
There's a difference between fighting through the pain barrier and continuing in a bout and risking you're future career. Bust knuckes, muscle tears are one thing but if you have actually broken the wrist only a fool would risk their entire future earnings and health.

Ofcourse he will be a world champion.

Based on doing well early then losing his first world title fight? He may pick up a trinket, but he'll never hit the top of his division.
well i just seen he was 29, i thought he was a little younger, but i don't see why not. He has a very nice style, technically very sounded, switches stance beautifully, and despite not getting Burns out of there i think it's fair to say he has very good power.

No chance will Burns want anything to do with him again but Broner is about to vacate his title, Abril & Vasquez are the other 2 holders - if he can pick up another win or 2 to get himself into contention for any of those 3 belts i would fancy his chances.
