Alexander was injured once, Brook twice. That fight seemed jinxed.

So he's been out for a while and obviously needs a run out/make time fight before he kicks on again, especially after the injuries.

They pick a bloke who he had a really hard time against (I don't think Jones is that good, btw) instead of a Latvian journeyman where he'd just get some target practice.

Should he sit on his arse for months whilst he gets a title fight or have a 'run out'? If you think the latter, who should he fight then?
Too logical there!

Why not try and make a match with Provodnikov? That would be a proper test and we`d find out what Brook is made of.

Jones went life and death with Byrne in his last fight.

Another quality match up from Eddie 'The new allegedly' Hearns. Joke of a rematch.

So, given that he's coming back after too long out plus injuries, who should he fight then? You know, realistically?

By the time he fights Jones he will have been out of the ring for less than 9 months. That isn't unusual for a boxer at Brook's level and it isn't a good excuse to fight weak opposition.

Better realistic opponents: Chris van Heerden, Leonard Bundu, Vyacheslav Senchenko, Randall Bailey, Jan Zaveck, Julio Diaz, Ajose Olusegun, Kermit Cintron and others.

This isn't an awful fight, but it isn't good and it is a weak main event for a Sky bill.

I think a Jones rematch is ok but would it be acceptable for Khan to rematch Diaz who gave him a torrid time?

Andre Berto..... No longer a world champion but has competed at the top level. He's lost to the top guys but it's a genuine test. Ignoring that Victor Ortiz who himself has been out of the ring a long time so he'd be at just a disadvantage as Kell.

I'd have gone for Jo Jo Dan. He's well known in Canada and has had great exposure accross Europe on Eurosport in the past few years. Hasn't been stopped in his career, was unlucky in his first fight against Aydin and showed tons of heart against Aydin in the second fight.

Alternatively Juan Urango. He's still fairly well known over here after facing Hatton about 6 years, plus his last defeat came at the hands of Devon Alexander.

Id agree with jo jo dan! He's a good skillful southpaw... would be good prep for Alexander actually!

He won't be facing Alexander until te IBF mandatory comes back around in that time Alexander may have fought Mayweather or Khan etc.

As for a comeback fight Jones isn't a bad fight at all. Then looks like Diaz in September if he doesn't price himself out.

Otherwise a Berto, Ortiz, Sevechenko, Bailey, Zaveck would be better suited! Prodovnikov wouldn't make business sense in a non world title fight

I dont want to see Brook vs Diaz though! Thats a crap fight. The only reason Diaz gave Khan problems is because he's chinny! Kell has shown a good chin up to now and also he's a more thoughtful boxer than Khan and makes less mistakes than the former does. Im getting sick to death of Hearn trying to get the khan fight because its a big payday for him. Actually put your fighter in with a top level welterweight ie Ortiz, Berto, etc.

brook jones is fine as a warm up. its almost guaranteed to go 12 or 10 . then next fight khan, blow him away then back to alexander, then a superfight with mayweather , who gets schooled.

I'm not saying there aren't better fighters than Carson Jones, as that would be unjustifiable.

I obviously have a completely different definition of 'realistic' than some of you. I don't buy the argument that being out for nine months is fine because others are too at that level. He's had a couple of significant injuries which he also needs to test.

I don't know the ins and outs but I believe the card is effectively a launch of Luke Campbell in Hull. Spending a lot of money on bringing over Berto, Ortiz, etc. for a 'run out' whilst he protects his ranking doesn't make any sense to me.

Yes, Alexander won't have to fight a mandatory anytime soon but why wouldn't he fight Brook next anyway (presuming he beats Purdy, and I hope he doesn't)? DA doesn't give a monkey's about Brook, doesn't rate him and the promotional teams have an excellent relationship.

Plus, if Brook manages to beat Jones more handily (not a given) he'll be showing some improvement.

It'll be interesting to see if the stamina issues have been "resolved" as we were assured they would be.

My thoughts exactly - it's a bit of a benchmark to the supposed improvements.
