I think he is a 'real' and not scripted or coming out wit the usual cliche ridden stuff.

I like Barry Jones. He stands up for his beliefs. Buncey and Rawling have tried to put words in his mouth, or tried to sway his opinion on numerous occasions and Jones has none of it. I find him to be very quick witted and down to earth. Certainly not one of the cheerleaders on the channel.

6/10 for commentary work
7.5/10 for studio work

I like Barry Jones on the mic, he's not a yes-man nor does he go overboard.

Plus it was a peach of a left hook he dropped Acelino Freitas with.

He is ok, better than the likes of Rawlings, Bunce, fat Steve, cliche Enzo. Only Paul Smith comes close, though he is mainly used at ringside and is actually very good, to be fair.

I like him, he really knows his stuff and doesn't go overboard; he seems happy enough to let someone else do the majority of the talking and then add a comment or 2. He's good at what he does and imagine he'll get better.

I'd like to see Johnny Nelson more at ringside and less on Ringside; they ought to mix up the presenters a little to get the optimum balance; some have had tenure for too long (McCrory?) and a few changes would do the format good.

Speaking of pundits and commentators - Barry hasn't been on Sky for a while.

When he's training/managing a high level boxer who is televised there has to be a little conflict of interest; no one could believe 100% whatever he said about Scott Quigg for instance; Barry wears too many hats to be a Sky pundit.

I don't mind either and think both offer a lot of insight, but Smith's voice grates after a while.

I like Barry and he's getting better.

I have some constructive criticism though, instead of only telling us what is happening in a fight - 'Good straight left.' 'Good left uppercut' etc. He needs to add some dimension to it. Why is he scoring the left uppercut? Why is the straight left getting through the other guys defense? Paint us a picture with your knowledge, we can already see what is happening on screen.

I don't always agree with Barry's views or scores but I like that he is honest and not swayed by anything other than his own thoughts. Realism is what we want.

The fans can see the truth, we don't want to be conned and I think Barry is a genuine fan who is generally looking forward to the fights, just like us.
