Yes, weighed in at 148 then 147.8 I think, when you're tight at the weight 1lb is a huge amount too shift.

He had no chance of winning. But I get the feeling he would have lasted the distance. Maybe he deserved that.

Good decision by Barker there was no point in going on to get more punishment and possible long term damage Purdy was very brave but the fact was he was out of his league simple as that but he wasnt disgraced

I'm not sure; Lee was getting a pasting but seemed to be comfortable enough with it and Devon was increasingly boxing one handed; after last weeks Burns bout (Ricky took a pretty good pasting the first 5 rounds). I'd have liked to see Purdy throw a bunch; he lives to fight another day and would have done if he'd have carried on. I'm not sure that Barker knew that Devons' left hand was blown.

I was all ready to come on and defend Barker, citing other trainers who are brave from the sidelines. Having now seen it, I feel for Purdy. I'm not saying he should have been allowed to finish the fight whatever happened, but it did seem premature to me. Either way, Purdy went up in my estimation. Not a top level fighter, but think what someone like Audley would have done with a heart like that.

I can't agree with Barker's decision. Purdy was getting beat up but not massively. Plus it looked like he was coming into it. Devon definitely slowed and it was becoming increasingly obvious that he was fighting one-handed.

Bad call.

Terrible decision, Alexander was slowing and Purdy looked comfortable. What on earth did Barker do that for?

I presume Alexander would have won, and easily, but you never know.

The more I see it, the more I disagree with the call. If Purdy was ever going to make it past 7, he was always going to have been taking a beating and hoping for the big shot. The fact is that is was going better than any have them could have honestly imagined when the fight was made. I think Purdy realised that, hence him being so upset.
