I wonder is Purdy's trainer tried calling someone ion the arena to tell them about Devon's hand?

Why people don';t make more use of the commentary is beyond me, sometimes you can pickk up good bits of info.

Purdy is very basic and landed not much, but he was ok in there.

Purdy could have just damaged the hand more by forcing DA to block with it and changed up his gameplan, shame.

No, it was a pathetic decision.

I hope Barker gets pulled out early against Geale.
Barker wouldn't stand and defend for round after round, he said to Purdy for 3 rounds in a row, "give it your all this round" if that was his all well....Purdy was way out of his league, come back when you have made weight properly and for god sake give it ago

It's an opportunity lost; Lee will never get to box for a World Title again; he was way behind but had not been seriously rattled or dropped; Devon was boxing one handed and had dropped a gear or 2. Lee must have had enough in him to start to throw while coming in and then inside until Devon grabbed; Purdy could have done with Kostya Tszyu in his corner and Lebedev could have done with Barker.

I weren't kidding Ratchet; I can imagine Purdy watching this bout and kicking himself for years and years; he'd weathered the worst of what Devon had to offer and not shown what he could do.

Point taken and I stand corrected :TU: Lee will never get to sniffing distance to a bout of such significance again. If he had won he'd have held a win over a reigning World Champ; he'd have been right in the mix for life changing money and fights that would have satisfied him.

Hard to bear for Lee Purdy,he wasnt really taken a beating as such but never showed anything rather than being tough, never let his hands go and struggled to get punches off,Darren Barker maybe could have let him continue but there was no world title on the line and Barker would have seen the struggle Purdy had shedding the weight and no doubt Darren told Lee he would have to start showing him something,Devon was toying with Lee with 1 hand,Lee was tough but didnt go out on his shield persay and without sounding too critical,i thought Lee would have threw more punches rather than standing in the pocket letting Alexander pick him off with combinations

I mean what the f*ck? If he doesn't give a sh*t then I don't see why anybody else should. Can't imagine Eddie is amused with him at the minute.

He's missed the weight by a pound with only four weeks notice. Hardly the actions of someone who "doesnt give a poo."

Purdy is a huge welter who'll spend large portions of his camp focusing on weight management. This is a case of his body only allowing so much to come off.
I agree with this 100%, it's not rocket science. Bad things happen when you lose too much weight and fight good fighters over long distances. The people slagging him are being quite ignorant if you ask me.

Your post wasn't ranting on about that. It was ranting about Lynes beating Purdy and Purdy getting paid well for the Alexander fight.

Reminded me of the johnston vs vitali fight to some degree.....purdy talking smack to devon all night without actually throwing anything back. Defo was outclassed and had no right being in there but he could have at least threw something back. Rees was in a similar situation against broner but aleast he gave it a real go and came out with credit. Guess that is what happens when british no6 fights world number 3.

Also how he got this fight when in his last fight the IBF eliminator he again came in over weight I will never know? Eddie must have pulled some serious strings.

On a side note this a very tough fight for brook. 60-40 against him. Not sure he will be able to beat him devon.

He hasn't done himself much good either, can't stand boxers talking in the ring saying "your punches are not hurting me" when they throw nothing back themselves !

I was thinking the same thing, fair enough the punches may not be hurting you but your punches defo aint hurting him becasue your not throwing any and when you do throw your missing!! Defo dont think purdy did himself any favours with the way he acted to add to that he was out boxed/fought by a 1 armed boxer. He definetely wont be invited back stateside anytime soon. Gavin, lyes, hatton, vassell or witter would have given a better account of themselves.

Poor decision by Barker, poor effort by Purdy. Shouldnt have been in there in the first place.

Aleksander will beat Brook if they ever fight.

I can understand that Purdys' preparations weren't ideal and he already had a mountain to climb. It seems that he was afraid of opening up and getting caught and/or running out of steam. If he'd come out like he did v the undefeated puncher he beat last time out then Devon would have known Lee was serious and wouldn't have just potshotted. Purdy comes across as a decent and likable man but I don't think he'll get the chance to be a world champion again, also there are tough men in every division who could go the distance with a world champion - if that were the sole aim; the idea is to win the bout though isn't it? To do that Lee had to box to his strengths and he didn't do that last Saturday night and I imagine that he'll regret not going for it even though his mortgage is paid off. Purdy has bottle to burn taking the bout at late notice and he had nothing to lose, he got through the hard first few rounds and weren't bashed up bad, Devon hurt his hand bad and Purdy should have gone for broke.

If you're going to mock other people's intelligence, at least write to a level somewhere above nursery.

I could express myself in clearer, more intelligent terms than you when I was five.

You call yourself intelligent if you had any brains you would not right stupid comments how was that a poor decision by barker he done the right thing purdy was drained and only had 4 weeks to prepare he done the best he could and was never going to win on points perfect decision by barker like I said you obviously don't no anything about boxing and why shouldn't he have been in there in the first place he was number 4 in the ratings and no one wanted the fight in front of him so he took it

Contrary to what many seem to think, being a very poor writer and having average or above average intelligence are not mutually exclusive.
