Repeat stoppages on cuts?

I'm interested in the propensity of bad cuts to reopen in subsequent fights. How likely is it? The only historical example I know of (granted I'm more of a HW boxing fan than a general boxing fan) is Ali/Cooper. Cooper gave Ali all kinds of problems in both fights, and Ali focused on opening cuts both times to win. Any intelligent comments on how reliable historically (or physiologically) that strategy is would be appreciated.

a cut is a cut. the skin at the point of the tear will never be as good after one, not even with plastic surgery. ali's punches were like knives in the cooper fights and he knew what he had to do to open the tissue.

Jose Luis Castillo was stopped twice on cuts by Javier Jauregui earlier in his career I believe. Generally if a fighter gets badly cut a few times, it will be easier and easier for him to get cut again in the same general area.
