Ricardo William's Ability...Before He Wasted It.

Post by damien590 »

I was really impressed with this kid coming out of the 2000 games
because of his slick & laser sharp punching style. He was the total
package you could ask for in any young prospect & HBO did a good job
of getting him exposure.

I thought it was tough gauging him against Bojodo & Cotto but when it was
said & done I thought that Williams would rule 140lbs with some vast
guidance & experience. Roy Jones I guess thought the same because he
took Williams under his wing & tried to give him advice about the business.

Then somehow Williams gotten lazy & stopped training losing to bums. Now
he's even behind bars. What a waste of talent! I'm positive if he stayed
on the right track like Cotto he could've been Floyd's nemisis at 140lbs
without a doubt!

Does anyone agree? Does any of ya'll remember how awesome he
looked coming out of Sidney? I know it can't just be me, this kid looked
amazing.

I hate to see when guys waste away their talent! Just goes to show that having a world of talent doesnt mean everything..you also have to have the smarts, heart and desire to be great.

I remember the first time I saw Cotto he was only 16 and looked as a great prospect. But then I heard he had lost to "the next De La Hoya", a 16 year old US boxer. That was Ricardo Williams.
Cotto beat Williams before the 2000 Olympics but Williams got great Olympic exposure with his semi-final victory over cuban Diogenes Luna and was expected to do better in the pro ranks. It's a shame he destroyed his career that way.
