Have any British boxer ever fought in a war?
I know Ali refused to go to Vietnam. But that's about the only boxer/war connection I can think of.

Since WW1 or 2? Loads fought in both, boxing was on hold for effectively most of WWII.
Reg Gutteridge got his leg blown off in WWII jumping off a tank onto a land mine on D-Day.
Carl Crook was in the Paras for a few years, don't know if he saw any active service but I imagine he at least went to NI.

I know long-time British heavyweight champ Bombardier Billy Wells fought in WWI (in fact he was in the army well before WWI, hence the name) and continued to defend his British title and fight long after WWI ended. He also fought a rake of guys who were also in the Forces and served during WWI (as the vast majority of men their age/fitness did).
Wells fought Frenchman Georges Carpentier twice, he was a national hero in WWI being a pilot who was decorated twice.
Nigel Benn is another notable ex Forces boxer - He was in the Royal Fusiliers I think and served in NI and Germany.
Richard Dunn was also a para, I think, but I've no idea on his military service.
Shea Neary was in the army, went to NI also.
Think Terry Marsh was in the Marines. Terry Downes bizarrely was in the US Marines.
