barry hearn,do you agree?

Post by fasteddie »

barry hearn said on ringside that ward needs froch more than froch needs ward as ward cant sell a ticket,do you agree with this? me personally i think froch needs ward more than ward needs froch,if froch wants to rectify his loss then he needs him were as ward has his win over froch and can go about his career without fighting him again if need be.

No way does ward need froch, he already beat him quite comfortably last time, froch is the one who needs to avenge the loss. As far as a pay day goes for ward, he would get more money to fight froch in the uk than any other fight out there, so in that sense maybe he does need froch but certainly not for his legacy as he has without doubt proved who the better fighter is.

The guy without the title always needs the guy with the title more & Andre is clearly the champion at 168.

Devon Alexander doesn't sell many tickets outside his hometown, but he makes in the high six figures and low seven figures nearly every fight and it was a similar case for Andre Berto; fighters can become wealthy independent of ticket sales.

Ward is backed by a major network, so he need not be a great ticket seller to make great purses. For example, despite fighting in front of a crowd of 'only' 8,000, he made around $1.5 million against Dawson--an established but not very popular fighter. Even if Froch is the most lucrative option (and Ward may be the most lucrative for Froch), Ward would probably make good money against any feasible opponent, so I don't think he needs Froch.

I can't stand Ward. Even the way he spoke about how you have to come to the States if you want to make a name for yourself. Err... Froch already fought you in the States you twat.

Froch should not go anywhere near Ward. He wouldn't win and it would ruin his momentum. Really he should be trying to do a deal with the Pascal-Bute winner or doing Kessler III, although a win over either Stieglitz or Oosthuizen would probably add more to his legacy rather than taking on fighters he has already beaten.

Ward doesn't really have many exciting options at SMW, or LHW to be honest. I can't think of a fight I'd be interested in seeing him in other than maybe Dirrell. A rematch with Froch probably is really his best option.

Ward needs Froch a lot more I reckon.

I assume we are talking about money, not legacy. Because I don't think anybody is disputing the fact Ward is the better fighter, but I can't see where his next big payday comes from. Froch can fight and generate buzz without Ward, Ward is struggling without Froch.

It would be a terrible business decision, but if Carl really is all about legacy, it has to be Ward.

It's shocking the way these Promotors try and hype up a fight.

Fighting Ward again would be bad for his legacy. I think he is best staying away from him and arguing in future that his fight was close given the two 115-113 scorecards. He could then argue he had a bad night and improved after that fight. If he fights Ward again I think the scorecards would be wider and the hype surrounding Froch would dry up pretty quickly.

The thing we all love about Froch is his desire to fight the very best one after another. Joe Calzaghe was imo a superior boxer but despite retiring undefeated, questions will always be asked about the fights he never had. As someone who oft criticises the sport for top fights falling through and the best not always fighting the best, I am surprised that people on here think that Froch should avoid Ward because he might lose again and hurt his legacy!

Froch is a super middleweight fighter who has beaten everyone he has fought with the exception of Ward who is the divisions number 1. I'd respect Froch a hell of a lot if he were to take the fight with Ward despite being a big underdog and try and become the divisions undisputed number 1. If someone like Carl is to move weights or seek alternative opponents based on a fear of losing, then I fear for the sports future.

Forget the belts, forget the money, aim to beat the man ranked as number 1 and you wont go far wrong Carl.

Ward is a great fighter, but he is not superman as some people are making him out to be.

He hasn`t beaten that many top names. Bika, Froch, Kessler, Dawson, Abraham and Dawson does not make you an untouchable.

He is highly skilled, but a dirty tedious fighter to watch. I found non of his fights exciting. he would be favourite against froch, but if you watch that last three rounds of his fight with Froch, you can see a way to beat him. Froch could do it with a big home town crowd behind him. Unlikely, but there is a chance.

Forget kessler 3, it would be anti climatic and poinbtless. He has to fight Ward, it`s the only thing left.

If he can beat Ward then he can clean out Groves and Cleverly and retire a very happy man.

If Ward wants to make the big $$$s then he needs Froch imo.
But you never know, maybe Ward will fight Hopkins and sell the rights to the insomnia foundation.

Ward needs frochs. Like Hearn said the name of the game is making money. and thats done by having a following, being able to sell tickets, make people enjoy watching you fight and being an elite absolute top level fighter. FRoch ticks all those boxes. Ward only one.

FRoch can make good money with a 3rd Kessler fight. a clash with Martinez. A fight with Hopkins or Pascal in Montreal, domestic showdowns with Groves, Cleverly,or even Degale down the line.

The options for Ward are now very very limited. No one wants another kessler fight in the USA and ward wont travel. A hopkins fight wont happen and if it did it would be a stinkathon. The good guys at 160 like quillin, golovkin and martinez arent going to fight him he doesnt offer them much apart from a p4p listings certainly not big bucks

Interesting poll on Froch's facebook group.

About 200 votes for Ward fight next, as opposed to like 30 votes for Groves, Degale or Kessler 3 etc.

So there is a big demand for Ward which cannot be denied by any interested party, whether it's a tedious fight or not.

I'd love to see the Golovkin fight.

I was genuinely worried for Froch the last time he fought a banger from MW in Abraham, that didn't turn out too bad.

Do those claiming that Ward needs Froch for a big payday know how much Ward makes or would likely make against feasible opponents other than Froch?

Ward made around $1.5 million for Dawson and apparently 7 figures for Green, neither of whom is very popular; where is the evidence that Ward needs Froch for big money?

I dont think its just that with Ward. For me its the mauling and grabbing I dont like! I really enjoy watching Guillermo Rigondeaux when a lot dont but you dont see him mauling like Ward does.
