Terrible article on a potential Mayweather vs Ward

Suggests that if Floyd wants to be taken seriously, he needs to move up and fight Ward, because Henry Armstrong and Sugar Ray Robinson stepped up. Is it possible that there are boxing journalists who don't know that Floyd has already moved rather a long way up?

Re: Terrible article on a potential Mayweather vs Ward
wierd that Ward is quoted in that article, talking it up as if it could be a possibility.... Mayweather would be pretty small for 160 and Ward even making that weight is questionable. Sounds like maybe Ward is planting the seed of the fantasy match-up just to perhaps hope it gives it some kind of outside possibilty of a pay-day for him, but if it happened it be as eyebrow raising as Oscar-Bhop or Oscar-Pac.

If Nonito Donaire wants to be taken seriously, he should step up and fight a Klitschko. Spare me. Hank won titles at Feather, Light and Welter; this guy would have been asking him to move up to middle. Robinson, of course, famously couldn't make the final step to light heavy despite being the greatest of all time.

Hank held those titles at the same time though, that be like Ricky Burns holding belts at 135, 140 & 147 while still weighing 135. Robinson damn near pulled it off at light heavy aswell, he was only 157lb to Maxims 173lb and had it been a 12 round fight he woulda won. Those 2 guys are held in such high esteem because their skill overcame such huge weight disadvantages.

'Ward has fought his entire professional career at the super welterweight limit of 168 pounds'
Right, okay.
Right, okay.
Re: Terrible article on a potential Mayweather vs Ward
He is a football/soccer writer. He clearly has no clue about boxing, he probably looked at a P4P list and went buck-wild.
Re: Terrible article on a potential Mayweather vs Ward
They could put Khan-Froch and Brook-Groves on the undercard.

I know :) Nobody has done what Hank did, though I think we could argue that Jones beating Ruiz was an even greater achievement than had Robinson beaten Maxim (as he would have done on a cool night or over 12 rounds). Regardless, suggesting that Floyd needs to fight for the super middle title because of those is a bit of a nonsense.desperados wrote:SamWise72 wrote:If Nonito Donaire wants to be taken seriously, he should step up and fight a Klitschko. I agree. Rigondeaux should step up and fight Tyson Fury aswell. Straight up pussies if they dont do it.SamWise72 wrote:If Nonito Donaire wants to be taken seriously, he should step up and fight a Klitschko. Spare me. yeah, he doesn't need to, and the sports a different animal now, but IF he did, it would be the kind of achievement to legitimately lay claim to being best ever. Jones winning the HW title is a great example actually, possibly the modern-day Hank-esque achievement. I think the history books will rank RJJ as greater than floyd.
Re: Terrible article on a potential Mayweather vs Ward
I wonder if he would be tempted with a move to middle, ESP if he eases past Canelo
Re: Terrible article on a potential Mayweather vs Ward
I would say Martinez is a winnable fight
Re: Terrible article on a potential Mayweather vs Ward
Armstrong did get a draw with Garcia for a version of the Middleweight title (sort of WBO standard). And lets not forget that when Robinson defeated Sammy Angott, that Angott was WBA lightweight champ (NBA as it was called then) but they fought at 136 so Angott would not lose his title.SamWise72 wrote:If Nonito Donaire wants to be taken seriously, he should step up and fight a Klitschko. Imagine Armstong and Robinson today backed by HBO? They eat titles up...yet at the same time they'd be over protected... Robinson would make all his opponents boil down to half their body weight and insist all fights happen in a triangular ring...

The links drive traffic, the traffic funds advertising, the advertising means they continue and they proliferate. If we just link to good ones it allows those writers to be rewarded.Dead Mouse wrote:No, because poor articles let us know that the good ones are good.iamasadlittleboy wrote:Without trying to sound like a dick, can I please ask people to ignore poo articles and share the good ones!
