Chris van Heerden Vs. Paul McCloskey

Post by chad »

Van Heerden just confirmed the fight on allegedly for this September in Belfast. I fancy Van Heerden to win this on points.

According to Van Heerden the fight was put together by Eddie Hearn.

Van Heerden Vs. McCloskey will be on SKY. McGuigan / Frampton have a multi-fight deal with allegedly.

What weight will this be at?

Van Heerden is a real dirty fighter from what I've seen. I'd fancy him to beat McCloskey esp if its at welter.

The fact McCloskey seems chinny is an even bigger concern I think. Not that Van Heerden is some monstrous puncher.

He's very rough and determined from what I saw of the Hatton fight in South Africa.

Matt is no banger, but he is a strong lad and durable - but was pushed around a bit.

McCloskey will be destroyed here.

Do some people on here still think he would have beaten Khan?

Paul had a bad loss to DeMarcus Corley after two of his opponents dropped out. You see bad performance all the time when this happens - as recent e.g (Carson Jones vs Dean Byrne)

Van Heerden has beat second rate South Africans,Matthew Hatton and an Argentinian journeyman so let's not count Paul out of this fight just now

He has a realistic chance of becoming world champion and I hope the fight happens.

He coped with Prescott's power. The stoppage against Corely was due to lack of concentration more than anything cos with his low hands style, you need 100% focus 100% of the time. He could run and get a close or contraversal point decision

Prescott is shit and got schooled by Kevin Mitchell, whereas McCloskey went life and death with him. And then McCloskey lost to Corley who had lost 6 of his previous 7 fights. So that shows McCloskey's level, which isn't anywhere near world class, and I question now if he's even still European level.

I thought Prescott was very hard done by in that decision.

Paul needs to win to keep his career alive, but the Corley loss was that bad it did his reputation untold damage.

When Corley was unveiled, it was laughed out of town as a viable opponent - so to then get beat up and stopped by him was pretty embarrassing.

McCloskey is an awkward sod in the ring. He might prove unorthodox enough to puzzle Van Heerden.

He needs to be busier than in previous fights. Not seen much of the Saffa though, only against Hatton and although tough as nails, Hatton is no great shakes.

No John Breen either which is a big factor. It'll be interesting to see how the bookies price this up.

Personally I always thought McCloskey should have been heading for Lightweight not stepping up to Welterweight.

If the odds are good enough I'll be backing Dudey to win on points. Lets see hows its priced up first.

Realistically which world champions could he beat?

Can you imagine him at light welter against Matthysse or Garcia? They'd both massacre him!

I think on his night he could beat Lamont Peterson. Peterson's not going to get too many big money fights in the U.S with that ko loss to Matthysse & could happen in Belfast.

Peterson would easily outwork him. McCloskey probably wouldn't win a round.
