Repeat or Redemption ? Price v Thompson !

Post by jessi »

I know it's still about 1 month away but I'm really looking forward to this one already.
Will price have changed his style, will this make him extra safe now ? Or will he still be careless at times and risk getting dropped ? It's a very intriguing return that could be make or break for big pricey ! Come on David :box:
What do people reckon will happen ?

I'm a big Price fan and think Thompson got lucky last time.

It will be Good night Tony this time, he will be eating the canvass this time looking up seeing stars and a dancing midget.

I think Price is better than he showed last time out. I also think he's as good as Thompson. But Price is on the up. But lets see. Thompson will really believe in himself.

One thing...if Tony as much as hiccups the ref will jump in and save him from further punishment. Is that too cynical?

Really want the Price Express back on track.

Love to see Price do it, he's brave to take it, but his chin is made of the finest porcelain, and TT will always be one half decent punch away from another KO. There was nothing "unusual" or "unlucky" about that fight...

How come no odds anywhere ? I reckon the bookies haven't a clue really - Price on paper should be fave: homeground, more incentive, bigger, younger, can box safety if he needs, bigger punch, more money behind him, better sparring...what more can you want ? But....the bookies know that a KO like last time spells: anything can happen.

It's very likely Price will get up-ended again here.

But where are the odds ???

I'm looking forward to this one too. :yay:

I'm a bit more nervous, despite being a Price fan. Before the fight, I thought Price was going to blow him away. I was shocked when Price got stopped.

I'm hoping for a Price win, but keeping my fingers crossed.

Yer I will be having a sharpe drink and loads of cigarettes when they enter the ring this time, this really is all or nothing, it could put price up there for a fight with the worlds best if he wins or possibly an invitation into the prizefighter if he loses :oo

I think Price will win the return as I think he'll get to Thompson before he gets to him this time. However I still think Price is very suspect around the whiskers and when he steps up again in levels *although that probably wont be for about 10 years with Maloney promoting him* I think he'll get found out again. Some of the stuff Lewis has been telling him to do sounds a bit bizarre aswell! Having a bed put in his dressing room?! Haha .... I see the method behind it but just because it worked for Lennox it doesnt mean it will work for Price. It could make Price less alert going into the ring and a bit sleepy which will make him more at risk of getting caught again. Just my take on it though.

I can see Price get stopped again. I dont want him to as he seems like a decent, down to earth guy (and a damn good boxer). However, it didn't seem like a massive shot that scrambled his senses in the first fight and if TT lands cleanly with anything half decent he will have a chance of repeating the trick.

From a betting perspective, if Thompson by stoppage is 2's or better, thats a decent price.

Yeah I'm on the Price train hurtling back from the abyss. He's got a hell of a HW punch and seems like a fairly humble bloke . I'd really like to see him do it. Not sure that he will though..

Hopefully Price will learn now to box off the jab more, and as boring as it may seem box like Wlad safety first until he knows it's time.

You dont win world titles by pleasing folks... and big Dave was far to forward thinking for the step up in class he took last time out.

i hope big Price can do it, but i think he's getting knocked out again.

Tiger is a top Heavyweight, other than a 4 rounder he lost about 40 years ago, he's won every fight against guys not called Wladimir Klitchko. He also stood up to, or got himself up off the canvas from, some massive shots from Wlad.

On that basis, i think even if big Price does land some flush shots, i think Thompson might just hang around long enough to eventually get his own home an stop Price again. Tony KO 1-6 was my vote.

It redemption for me. I believe that David Price will have learnt from that costly mistake he made in the first with Tony Thompson and the work he has been putting in with Lennox Lewis will pay dividends, he has enough ability wise to defeat Thompson and he works well off his jab and puts the straight right hand behind it which we all know is pretty powerful I think he will beat Thompson with a stoppage in the mid to later rounds.

Got a feeling Price will try to box to rule (jab jab move) and out point / finish Thompson late. Not seen any evidence david can do that though as yet, so its more of a hope.

Last chance saloon for the big man, if he cant beat thompson then his career will never go as far as we'd all hoped.

I wouldn't say David Price's career would be over if Thompson beats him. He will just find his level in the pecking order at top European fringe world level I reckon should Thompson beats him. If Price does beat him then maybe just maybe he is the real deal.

"Wont go as far as we'd all hoped"

If he loses to thompson again (i.e doesnt find a way to win with his frailties) i dont think, even in the current HW climate, he'll progress past euro level. Think pretty much everyone saw him as future world champion in one guise or another.

Not everyone Wales.

Plenty wanted to see the chin checked before predicting heavyweight titles for him

Agreed, many also cited his chin as an obvious flaw on amateur evidence. Not many (although there were some) were shouting this from the rooftops pre thompson 1 though. If there was a price thompson 1 poll ( dont recall if there was) i'd wager 90-95% had the big liverpudlian coming through victorious. Its now roughly a 60-40 fight.

Worried that Price is going to be second guessing himself second time round and end up getting himself into trouble. I think Thompson was massively underestimated first time round and Price paid, this time I'm a little worried Price is going to be overly cautious.

At first I thought Price would get revenge but then I thought about Thompson taking those brutal body shots from Price and not flinching. Like someone else said Thompson has been there, taken the shots and come back. He's a tough guy and he has some moves.

I'm pretty convinced Tony is cute enough to ride Price's shots again and hit him with something to put him out, again. But a little later in the fight. Price doesn't only have a glass chin but also seems kind of tactically naive.

Thompson KO5. The only thing preventing this is if Tony sees it as a cashout fight.

Thompson shocked us all and earned a well deserved victory the first time 'round, this time 'round, I think Price is more careful and boxes a decision win.

Not many people dislike Price. Seems like a good bloke. What is it you don't like about him?
