Is C5 boxing good or bad for casual fans?
Complete mismatches all night it's not what I want to see but are the KOs good for boxing in general?

If people are watching then it's good, whether the fights are mismatches or not. Fighting on terrestrial TV is major exposure that Sky can't give to boxing.

Channel 5 do need to have some "quality control" in place tbh.

I know I said this last time Hughie Fury fought but, what was the point in that bout? He's staying active and that's great but but he needs to step up and not just fight cans. I'm not expecting him to jump straight in with a Skelton, a D cup or a Chisora but how about some a bit better than this?

Great get fights, get lots of KO's over scrubs and be slated like Wilder if you wish, or take a lil step up, fight someone who will survive a few rounds and not topple at the first punch.

Without Channel 5 there would be no live free to air boxing, and nothing at all for the casual fan to watch. Casual fans like to see knockdowns and stoppages. Tonight's show probably went down well with the casual fans. I know Channel 5 boxing always goes down well in my local boozer when they show it on the big screen projector. It always gets loads of "oh's" and "ah's".

As I mentioned in another thread tonights bill was put together at a few weeks notice so the quality of the fights was to be expected.

I thought the presenter tonight was on particularly poor form. I know Channel 5 will have a budget so I'm not at all demanding someone else be hired but calling Mikkel Kessler 'Marcus' and suggesting that Fury v Haye was '99% done' based off of Adam Booth and Tyson Fury going 'do you want the fight?' 'yeah I do.'

Like others tho I will put up with the standard of coverage if it means boxing is on terrestrial tv. The question always is tho will the terrestrial channel be willing to stump up enough money to make the bigger fights.

If they havent got skysports / allegedly the "casual" fans that caught this bill wouldnt go out and subscribe.

Casual fans want the likes of Haye v Fury or a fight with a build up like Froch Kessler. The rest they'll take or leave. A bit like a non football fan choosing to watch Reading v Wigan just cos its free.

Their anchor man is gash.

Marcus Kessler was one faux pas I heard amongst a few.

It's like saying William Rooney during a Man Utd match, or Christopher Ronaldo.

You wouldn't expect that on a website article, let alone on scripted television. Fair enough if it was a cock up during a studio conversation and they laughed and corrected themselves, but not on an introduction.

Thinking about it, the format on all UK presentations seems rather stale. The only real variety seems to be wearing a bow tie for PPV's. Figures are low, public are disenchanted and disinterested in the sport, but when it is shown it is the same type of matchmaking, the same intro's, the same everything. I do understand why it would be seen as an easier fix to drop boxing in favour of a cheap ratings winner rather than indulge in the kind of creativity that might rejuvenate the publics interest. They are a business after all, and owe boxing nothing. However, if they are going to invest, then I can't understand why they wouldn't put a little more care into the all round presentation of the show.

they also said froch had been beaten twice by ward, and allowed degale to say that froch had been beaten "loads" of times. none of which were corrected.
its great that boxing is on normal tv , but the spin they put on their own fighters is ridiculous. its just building them up to take a fall. they should have someone presenting who is knowledgable . eubank jr is going nowhere. degale looks good at times, but takes too much punishment from far lesser fighters....when he moves up to the big boys hes gonna take a heavy beating.

on a more positive note galahad looks good. i know the opponent was limited but he was a real hard nut, and the kid was the first one to crack him. would like to see him in with a clever ex world champ to see if he can look as good against top quality

I think Richie Woodhall was battling hard to bring some integrity and reality to the broadcast.

Yet Boxing will be front page news when Haye and Fury get it on. The interest is out there for the right fights.

Boxing does it to itself though a lot of the time by putting on mismatches! If you had the sort of competitive fights in boxing like you have competitive contests in other sports im pretty sure boxing would be a lot more popular.

We were all worried that Ch5 seemed to be cutting boxing from their schedule, now we're all pulling it to pieces.
Yes the presentation could be better but let's just be happy that boxing is being shown on terrestrial TV.

Pulling it to pieces because we all know it only takes 1 low rating for them to drop it.

Skipping rounds annoys me and probably plenty other real fans, I doubt many casuals watch it at all.

Agree. There is no perception of how the fight is going when rounds are skipped. I know some people enjoy seeing bits, but for me I would rather not see anything than a couple of rounds.

I clocked it and it wound me up also a decent anchor would'nt have let Degale run his mouth at Ritchie. And challenged Fury's ridiculous im gonna beat Haye and both Klits.Fury still outclassed the Anchor cant remember his name and when a pikey with limited education is better at yoyr job its time to hang em up.Funny moment when half way through Huey saying i'd just like to say.....Roll credits ha ha.

Just catching up on this, Froch's losses include Taylor and Dirrell and to someone named Marcus Kessler, apparently.

What's with the "pikey" but no 'N' word for DeGale? At least be consistent.

i justtink the tv programmes seem rushed ,like they only show buit part of the fights ... henny has a respectable stable considering what has gone on over the last few months (with the balance of power shifting and his chequred past with tv deals) but iwould love for himn to deliver a decent tv fight with fury or defanny involving a world title challange or defence

any exposure on terrestial is good and they must be intrested mlook how there BAMMA coverage came and went
