I don't think Bellew is anything special at all, but the only thing special about Adonis is his punch.
It's a 65/35 fight in my opinion.

Adonis has asked to fight Ward in Oakland at 168.

With a rematch in Montreal at 175 afterwards for his new title.

I am not making this up either, GYM his promoter just tweeted it.

Bellew hasn't knocked anyone out or even visibly hurt anyone @ world level. He is however a big l. Heavy & game I think he is a spitefull puncher but loses power making the limit.

He is wide open to a fighter like Stevenson & I think he would get taken out but then he does fight like a dog & don't give up & imposes his will on fighters

Bellew twice went down heavy from shots against Ovill McKenzie and he was lucky to be able to come back. Stevenson hits harder and faster than Ovill and Tony is always there to be hit. In terms of boxing ability Tony is a better boxer but I don't think he has the ring discipline to box for 12 rounds without getting tagged or being drawn into a scrap at some stage. Get away with it against lighter punchers.

I'd agree with that Deno, the only thing thats a ray of hope for Bellew is the Boone ko over Stevenson. It shows the guy can be hit and hurt. Wether Bellew can land something like that is debatable, but would like to see him try and do it.

Matchroom managed to take Stevenson out of the picture when he was Froch's mandatory, he should return the favour by squeezing Bellew out in favour of a pay day whilst still keeping the belt :TU:

I don't think Adonis is some killer.

Dawson has been over in other fights and I full expected him to weather an early storm and box his head off.

Styles make fights, and I actually see Hopkins toying his way to a UD12 over Adonis in a WBC / IBF unification.

I think people are really harsh on tony on this forum. He will be a huge under dog and I believe he has the desire where the skill lacks so you don't know maybe he could.

Hop would spoil & box his ears off and bore everyone to death in the process, and Ward would outclass him too - definitely not fights his management should be taking - they could ruin what should be a thrill and minute career, just look at the balls up they made of Kelly Pavlik's career.

Didn't realise Stevenson is 35 years old, he's going to have to cash in on title quicker than i thought.

I think this is a winnable fight for Bellew. Not an easy fight by any stretch of the imagination, if i was a bookie i'd price Stevenson up as a favourite but no more than 1/2 and Bellew @ 6/4 or 7/4.

Ward did a job on Dawson previously and nobody gave Stevenson a real chance against Froch or a reason to be in the ring with him other than being mandatory (like Bellew).

It was a cracking shot that won him the fight but it was pretty much the first shot thrown rather than working him over and finishing him off. Bellew should have a decent reach advantage on him so if he can keep him at distance and fight smart, he's every chance as does Stevenson with that equaliser!

chad wrote:Stevenson is certainly crude but boy is he a dangerously big puncher. That's his last 11 wins all come by stoppage. I don't think Bellew has the power, skill, concentration or chin to get past someone like Stevenson. Stevenson would hurt Bellew badly.

Time for The Bomber to explore another route to world honors or wait for Stevenson to drop the belt in favour of a super fight.
I hope this is sarcasm. It's bad enough promoters try and feed us this shite. He's worked hard for this title and it was a tough ask with Dawson no1. Just because a big puncher now has it doesn't mean you go running looking for a WBO/IBO

Honestly, Stevenson is a much better option for Tony Bellew.

I’ve seen too many huge punchers in the sport get way overrated. Dramatic KO’s do that.

Tony is an intelligent fighter. He comes across a little prickly at times and talks about a tear up but he knows what he has to do to win. And if that means jabbing and side-stepping for the first half of the fight, so be it.

Not saying Stevenson isn’t a top fighter, he is. I just think all fighters get overrated after a big KO.

My guess is though, as is being said, that Hopkins is licking his chops…knows this kind of fighter is made for him. I’ll be surprised if Tony gets his chance. I hope he does as I think Stevenson will bring the best out of him.

He's never been over in a fight like that though Gomez. Stevenson is a seriously big puncher.

Look at when Bellew last fought a southpaw in Bob Ajisafe though. He didnt look very good to be honest and struggled pretty badly!

Ive said it about 10 times now and Il say it again. Stevenson is a better boxer than people are making him out to be! He isnt just a guy with a big punch. I think the Pavlik and Lacy comparisons are very unfair. Id pick Hopkins to beat Stevenson but thats because he's a very clever, shrewd boxer who's very good at negating his opponents strengths and then capitalising. I still think Stevenson would give him a hard fight though.

Lets look at it in perspective. Before the fight, Stevenson was considered a decent operator at world level and considered a decent but not life threatening challenger to Froch. He is also a SMW. One punch doesn't change that.

The win was awesome but he a flat footed and doesn't have great movement. The punch on Dawson wasn't a crude, counter, perfectly picked shot. It was an almight woolop that Dawson never saw coming and was slow reacting too. He was proably expecting to feel him out a bit round one.

A crude fighter, taking minimal risks, jabbing and moving and being totally switched on from the first bell can beat Stevenson. I'm not saying that person is Bellew but lets not get deluded by one punch!

I think you're using crude in the wrong context mate!
crude (krd)

2. Lacking tact or taste; blunt or offensive: a crude, mannerless oaf; a crude remark.
3. Characterized by uncultured simplicity; lacking in sophistication or subtlety: had only a crude notion of how a computer works.
4. Not carefully or skillfully made; rough: a quick, crude sketch.
5. Undisguised or unadorned; plain: must face the crude truth.
6. Statistics In an unanalyzed form; not adjusted to allow for related circumstances or data.

Your 100% right mate. But to add to that, Dawson has lost three times inside the distance now.

Adonis threw a wild power punch that landed exactly where it needed to - and it dropped Dawson like a bag of spuds.

What happens when his big, wild punches dont hit the mark, or they get absorbed by someone who can soak them up with a granite chin ? or has a solid defence that takes all the sting out of them ?

We are left with a crude operator with a flaky chin of his own.

Im a fan - but let's not pretend he is the new kid on the block.

bellew will surely get his shot.

will stevenson go straight for the HBO money, or will he try to build as an attraction in canada with less aggressive matchmaking?

if he gets by bellew, maybe he'll be calling froch out. froch having beaten the other top canadians, and stevenson having been froch's #1 contender down at super middleweight.

True. I just think he's a better boxer than people are giving credit for. Like i said before, im not saying he's the most skilled boxer going but he's not purely a guy with a big punch! Also is Bellew's chin good enough to absorb all of his shots? I doubt it! Also it's not like Bellew is some defensive wizard who avoids most punches that come at him, and for that reason I reckon Stevenson would knock Bellew out.
