Best boxer from 1940's

Post by tonydevino »

Very close between pep and Robinson.willie I believe edged ray by a few pts if your gonna rate them.i give ray the top spot by far as the best of the 50's.both guys records were unbelievable.they both lost most of there bouts after age 40.and to boxers that were no way in there class when Willie and ray were in there prime.my dad new them and said they ere the best.

The great Willie Pep to me, was the greatest fighter pound per pound of the 1940s...No doubt. Second in that era comes the great Sugar Ray Robinson

Having seen both Willie Pep and Ray Robinson in their early 1940s primes, it is hard to say who was the greater in their respective weight classes....Like apples and oranges, according to one's taste. But I have to give the nod to Robinson because of his more explosive hitting...But Willie Pep was the Houdini of the featherweights...Now you see him-now you don't....There can never again be a Ray Robinson nor a Willie Pep....Their records were forged in steel, fighting almost every two weeks
against the very best of that rich talent pool of the 1940s...
