Repeat or Redemption ? Price v Thompson !
Re: Repeat or Redemption ? Price v Thompson !
Worrying thing is that Thompson threw a cuffing punch & price flopped.
Price has the tools to beat anyone but I have no faith in his chin.
This fight so soon makes me nervous

I think:
1) Price's chin is suspect
2) It's not as bad as that punch made it look
3) Skelton hit him a lot harder than Thompson
4) Therefore, I want to see him hit hard ON THE CHIN, to determine whether the back of the ear thing was important.

60-40 fight in Price's favour I'd say.
It'll just be a matter of who lands their power shots first (or any half-decent shot in Thompson's case). Price is always going to be just one punch from disaster now, the Amir Khan of the heavyweight world.
I remember even in the Skelton fight, Skelton landed a couple of punches early on that clearly shook Price up, you can't put muscles on chins as they say.

You can, but it involves some questionable experimental surgery that the BBofBC would probably look down upon. And nobody wants to end up looking like the elephant man either.TheCobra wrote:you can't put muscles on chins as they say.

I think David Price is brave to take this fight if I'm honest. He suffered by a knockout last time out with one of a few punches that Thompson had thrown. He could of gone and regrouped and defended the British title once more but he didn't he has jumped back on the horse made no excuses and I think he will beat Thompson this time around.

There is no denying that the back of the ear thing was and is important. fair enough it was not a clean shot on the chin, but this is boxing and those punches happen all the time. If you can`t deal with them then it raises some serious question marks.
I remember him being hit after the break in one of his first fights (maybe his pro debut) and although he was not expecting the punch at all, he went into a mummified Bruno like state for a few seconds, which had me wondering whether his chin was suspect.
Tony Thompson is not a huge puncher, so you have to be concerned that with a Kltshcko or a Haye, he will not have the whiskers to grind it out.
His own power is awesome, but it depends on him landing first. I like the guy and hope he does well in the sport. His chin issues will make for some exciting fights down the road.

This may not be the biggest fight ever, but that's exactly why I am looking forward to it. With all the talk of boxers dodging each other, it's nice to see a guy genuinely want to get back in the ring with somebody who gave him an early knockout.
Re: Repeat or Redemption ? Price v Thompson !
I've got my tickets for this one.
Really hope Price wins this time and think he will do by knock out in the second half of the fight. Clearly his chin is a worry and there is no getting way from that fact. I'm hoping however that it did turn out just to be a freak shot which disorientated him rather than a case of Price having no kind of punch resistence at all as if he has designs on winning world titles (which he clearly does) then he's going to have to take plenty worse shots than that one.
I'm hoping his camp with Lennox focused mainly on establishing the jab, defence and utilising his size advantages. Price always has his concussive power to fall back on if he gets in trouble in fights but the main priority has to be protecting his chin as all the power and skills in the world will not help at world level if his defence is open and he cannot take a decent shot.

It's an intriguing one for sure. I dread to think what will happen if TT catches Pricey flush on the jaw or temple, I've got a feeling the paramedics will earn their corn. I like price he's a nice guy and I hope he can out box Tony early on, keep it long and make him eat the jab and hopefully take him out around 6-9 when Tony tires a little. The only thing I worry about is Price being apprehensive about going in for the kill or putting the pressure on too much as he knows if TT pulls the trigger and it lands somewhere near its lights out.

I'm super curious about this rematch & the Seth vs Jonathan rematch. Don't see too many fights where the guy who's supposed to win gets KTFO & then comes right back at the same guy at HW (or I suppose any division) these days. I tend to think it'll be a repeat of the first fight, but it'll take longer. I'll be rooting for David though.

TT money in the bank. Price won't be able to avoid getting tagged for the whole twelve.

I think it was a bit of a freak punch last time, in the sense that Thompson's punch popped Price's ear drum and meant his equilibrium was shot. Odds are fat Tony wont be able to repeat that trick and will get worn down in about 6.

Why not just put a bed in the ring so that Thompson can put him down to sleep in it again.columbo wrote:I think Price will win the return as I think he'll get to Thompson before he gets to him this time. However I still think Price is very suspect around the whiskers and when he steps up again in levels *although that probably wont be for about 10 years with Maloney promoting him* I think he'll get found out again. Some of the stuff Lewis has been telling him to do sounds a bit bizarre aswell! Having a bed put in his dressing room?! Haha .... I see the method behind it but just because it worked for Lennox it doesnt mean it will work for Price. It could make Price less alert going into the ring and a bit sleepy which will make him more at risk of getting caught again. Just my take on it though.
Re: Repeat or Redemption ? Price v Thompson !
I am not sure if he had much choice mate.btahthezone wrote:I think David Price is brave to take this fight if I'm honest.
His only options were an immediate rematch or to go away and re-build over the next couple of years.
Given his age and the fact that his promoter has bankroled him to be a full time boxer for the last 4 years, they need to find out now whether he is going to offer a financial return rather than continuing to spend loads of money over the next couple of years only for it possibly to happen again the next time he steps up.
Price is too robotic who doesn't like to commit himself and Thompson is more of a fluid off-the-cuff type of boxer.
I can see 2 possible outcomes - either Price will get knocked out, or he will be very hesitant in the fight and the first time he lands a good shot the referee will jump in for a premature stoppage (same as with Bellew against McKenzie).
Re: Repeat or Redemption ? Price v Thompson !
I think if he can be the Amir Khan of the heavyweights I'll be delighted. I'm concerned he'll be the Enzo Mac of the heavyweights. Khan, for all his weaknesses, has won some big fights and some titles; if Price can bring home one of the big 3, that'll be an ace result.TheCobra wrote:Price is always going to be just one punch from disaster now, the Amir Khan of the heavyweight world.
Re: Repeat or Redemption ? Price v Thompson !
Yeh that could be a better analogy really, so far though he hasn't achieved anything approaching what either Khan or Enzo Macc achieved to be fair.SamWise72 wrote:I think if he can be the Amir Khan of the heavyweights I'll be delighted. Khan & Enzo have been taken out by massive punches most of the time, think Prescott & Haye...
If Price only had punch resistance as good as those two, he'd have a hell of a career. But he clearly doesn't ...

Just been speaking to a BBU trainer whos HW fighter has dropped Price in sparring this week. Must say I trust the guy 100%, and more worryingly the lad who dropped him doesnt have any incredible pedigree. I know gym stories are gym stories, but this guy wouldnt lie. Very worrying for Price.
Btw, ive asked the question youre about to ask... "How come a BBU HW got drafted in to spar Price" - i await the response.

Re: Repeat or Redemption ? Price v Thompson !
True or not, I think we all know enough from his amateur days to know he's chinny, it was just a matter of time before someone caught him with something half-decent at pro level.Wales wrote:Just been speaking to a BBU trainer whos HW fighter has dropped Price in sparring this week. Re: Repeat or Redemption ? Price v Thompson !
Price does better this time, gets caught at some point anyway, TT finishes him. Price's chin is just too poor and TT is too canny not to land big at some point.
Re: Repeat or Redemption ? Price v Thompson !
Oh yeah, never any doubt hes chinny. But then we all know De Gea can let in goals but we dont expect a county team from North Wales to put five past him. Seriously mate, this lad thats had him over is a former aba HW champ, but hes been out the ring for 3 years.TheCobra wrote:True or not, I think we all know enough from his amateur days to know he's chinny, it was just a matter of time before someone caught him with something half-decent at pro level.Wales wrote:Just been speaking to a BBU trainer whos HW fighter has dropped Price in sparring this week. Not good form, for a fighter who should be working on fighting behind jab and staying away from trouble.
Re: Repeat or Redemption ? Price v Thompson !
Maloney has signed the guy that dropped him. Multiple ABA champ, British level (no more imo) prospect.
