A few other wins were added, before a '3rd-Bout' with Carlos Espinosa took place at
the Arena Metroplitano in Leon, Nicaragua on Saturday - June 30, 1971.
In what was 'desribed' as a 'Fight-to-Hell-and-Back', Eddie Gazo withstood numerous
right hand bombs from Carlos Espinosa to escape with a close 12-Round Decision over
'The Cat' in his hometown.

Re: Eddie Gazo 'Nicaraguan Champion'
Fighting in South Korea and maybe Italy and Japan in the 60s, 70s and 80s really seemed to be like a foreigner going to Germany, or Texas/St. Louis or Argentina today: a really tough place to get a decision. Seems like a lot of titles changed hands or almost changed hands in S.Korea on split decisions in those days, and back in the 60s and sometimes 70s, the judges were all locals. At least that has changed, even if some of today's decisions still suckIl Duce wrote:'DECEMBER 18, 1977"

WBA Light-Middleweight Champion - Eddie Gazo retained his Championship by a 15-Round Split-Decision
over #8 WBA-ranked Challenger Jae-Keum Lim at the Sunin Gymnasium in the Port City of Inchoen, South Korea.
It was a 'poorly fought bout', as the 15-Rounder was marred by constant clinching as the 9500 partisan South
Korean fans boo'ed and jeered the Champion.
There was little action, as the Champion used a 'hit-and-run' tactic, as the hard-hitting Challenger Jae-Keum
pursued in an attempt to land his powerful punches. Eddie Gazo was effective in holding the Challenger, and
thwarted his offensive charges.
Only in Round 6, was Jae-Keum able to hurt the Champion, when he landed a 'thudding' body punch, which
buckled the legs Gazo. Otherwise, the Champion prevented the Challenger very few chances in swinging with his
dangerous uppercuts.
Scorecards
* Referee - Jay Edson (USA).............. 147-146 {4-3-8 in Rounds} = Eddie Gazo
* Judge - Ricardo Rizo (Nicaragua)..... 147-144 {6-3-6 in Rounds} = Eddie Gazo
* Judge - Jin-Kuk Kim (South Korea).. 150-148 {2-0-13 in Rounds} Jae-Keum Lim
After Bout Comments;
Eddie Gazo, "He was very strong and I felt his power in Round 6. I knew I would have to get inside and stay
close to use my hard body attack. I won, and that's all that matters."

Alot of clinching, and 'slap-hitting' by Eddie Gazo.
Most of the bout, Eddie was just holding and tied up Jae-Keum Lim like a 'knot.

What was the rationale given for why Kalule had to fight a second eliminator?Il Duce wrote:More on the Eddie Gazo 'WBA Fiasco'

The WBA states that #3 WBA-ranked Ayub Kalule 14-0-0 {8 KO's} must now face #9 WBA-ranked
Bonifacio Avila 25-2-3 {20 KO's} of Colombia in another WBA-Elimination Bout.
The nearly 27 year-old hard-punching Colombian holds the 'Centro de America' Light-Middleweight
Championship, an arm of the WBA.
The bout is 'quickly' set up for January 5, 1978 in Denmark, and the winner will have 21-Days to put up a
Fight Purse bid to face Eddie Gazo on February 8 or 9, 1978.
The Fight Result
Ayub Kalule destroys {TKO 4} Bonifacio Avila in a one-sided bout.
Kalule's Fight Promoter - Mogens Palle now has 21-days to come up with a 'Fight Purse' of $125,000 for Eddie Gazo,
which is what his Eddie's Manager requests.
