Benn and Collins on Channel 5 tonight

Post by states »

Channel 5 launch yet another reality show at 8 tonight:

Commando VIP (Documentary)
Time - 20:00 - 20:30 (30 minutes long)
When - Wednesday 19th October on five
Series following six celebrity wannabe commandos as they live, train and fight together in a bid to mould themselves into the ultimate fighting unit. In this programme, the new recruits are sent on their first mission and have to rescue a downed pilot from behind enemy lines.
(Stereo, New Series, Subtitles)

Along with the usual suspects, such as Big Brother contestants, and former members of Steps, Nigel Benn and Steve Collins are taking part, if anyone's interested. Surely Benn will be at a bit of an advantage here, given his time in the army?

Nigel sure takes these sort of things seriously. He's probably been training for it.

I'm looking forward to the growling, the eyeballing etc. Benn will give Collins a hard time, as he did to Eubank in Clash of The Titans a year or two ago. Collins will no doubt give as good as he gets. A cracker!

A massive advantage!

I'd like to see Benn v Collins with the winner getting a crack at H from Steps.

No wait. Benn v H then when the bastard has come to, Collins v H. Then both former world champs together v H. :TU:

He certainly does.

Remember that Gladiator programme on Five, where he was pitched in combat against Eubank?

Eubank didn't do any training for it, but Benn trained religiously for it & took it really seriously.

I think the sight of Eubank does things to Benn!!!! :box: :TU:

I loved the part on gladiator when they were chatting with Eubank, and he said. I thought I would just recite some poetry and pose a bit.

That was a classic piece of TV, it reminded me just how intimidating Collins can be. I thought he did really well, appears a very strong minded person and not an easy guy to intimidate or break. No surprise there though. :box:

Nigel Benn was class and great value for money as he always is, in or out of the ring. When he was being interigated, he started of just looking moody, but later on when he spat on that plate of food, he had the old Dark Destroyer eyes back. I remember years ago Eubank said he didn't like looking into Benns eyes as he had "The eyes of a Shark".

Class programme this. Been rooting for Benn and Collins and nice to see them working together. Ryan Dunn is one lazy bastard and no wonder Steve Collins hates him.

The soldier jumping back when Collins faked to throw a punch had me in stitches.

Very true, "Classic" Tv that, I loved the Benn, Eubank and Collins Era, anything to relive these fighters is fantastic. Collins is very strong minded, theres not a chance any of those guys would break him or Benn, the Old Dark Destroyer came out in Benn in the end, thats something that can't be trained into those guys, its in their make up.

Looking forward to next weeks :TU:

Always liked Nigel Benn, his no bullshit approach and honesty. Once heard him on the radio giving an interview to a female interviewer and she started on about boxing's abhorrent nature etc. Benn shut her up pretty quickly with his no frills honesty. Another quick KO to Nigel :TU:

I'm guessing at the exact quote now, but I remember Eubank saying after the first fight: 'I believe he wanted to kill me; he had the strength and the desire to do so'. Something like that. That rivalry was unbelievable Hatton-Witter is kiddy stuff when compared with that. Being entirely selfish, how good would Benn-Toney or Benn-Jones Jnr have been? I could never have made Benn favourite, but if anyone could have pulled out a win, it would have been The Dark Destroyer. Benn is one of my all-time favourite fighters, the guy was just unreal. And his ring entrance, to the chimes of Big Ben is one of the all-time classics.

At SM or Middleweight Jones would have made mincemeat of Benn. Benn would have had great difficulty finding Jones Jr's chin, hell Toney couldn't get near him, nor could Hopkins.

If Benn had never faced McClellan I would have said that Benn woulda have been battered in that match up but there you go..but it goes to show what a huge will to win and lusty dig can acheive, along with under-rated skills.

I would favour Jones 9/10 but I wouldn't count the Dark Destoyer out against anyone...when he was in the mood he could bring hell with him. Still, having said that Jones at 12st was pretty close to untouchable.

Nigel Benn and Steve Collins had a good laugh at the expense of Stu from Big brother on the pads. This is a good program but i don't think i would be watching it if it didn't have Benn and Collins in.

Same here I only watch it for Benn & Collins. My cousin is in The Marines if I see him over Christmas I shall ask him if he watched it and what he thought.
